You need spectacles. Spot the difffrence between NigeriaSat and NigerSat.

Minna — Director General, National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr Sheidu Mohammed, has revealed that the Federal Government has expended £35 million on the construction of NigerSat-2

According to the Director General, the NigerSat-2, which is being constructed by a UK based company working with 27 Nigerian scientists, is to compliment the NigerSat-1, which has exceeded its period of operation by one year.Mohammed said the NigeriaSat has been designed to have better resolution and wider application, adding that Nigeria stands a better advantage technologically, if it goes into full operation next year.

Stop arguing and compounding your ignorance.

Even the folks running the program call it NigerSat.

What is wrong with you people?

Is it a must for you to be ignorant and refuse to learn for your own good.

For real....if some of them were in power, we would still be riding around in bicycles and walking long distances, because they would say we are not ripe enough to drive cars or fly planes. ["Since our bicycle riders keep falling into ditches, how can we be trusted to drive cars and handle flying aeroplanes travelling at 1000km per hour?", they'd ask...."we don't have maintenance culture, so how will we maintain the aeroplanes? Please, just give us bicycles for now"]

Timid set of people.

This is why I say the govt should just ignore them and build whatever they like. If they depend on permission from the people, we would return to the Stone Age.

If their so called biafra is banking or counting on these ignorant youths and their so called leaders of tomorrow, then it's safe to conclude that biafra is doomed and dead on arrival.

The point here is not what Nigeria's satellites are called. The point is that Nigeria doesn't need risky nuclear energy at this time.

All of a sudden it's not about what they are called after arguing and calling other people names because of your own ignorance.

Why not first admit your wrong and apologize to the poster you labeled ignorant.

Also, you are in no position to tell Nigerians what they need or doesn't need at any time.

It 's OK to have your own opinion about risks involved, but risks are everywhere and as a society, we can not go anywhere or develop if all we think about is the risk involved.

You don't know anything about this project, you have no clue per the security measures and protocols to be put in place, you know absolutely nothing so save your breath until you have something concrete in front of you to argue against.

Oh shut your know-nothing trap. YOU are the embarrassment. China has huge solar farms which contribute 0.1% to her power needs, while she has nuclear, hydro and coal based power plants supplying the bulk of electricity there. Don't use ur brain before criticising what you know nothing about. Solar is extraordinarily expensive with little results by way of generating power, compared to nuclear energy. And countries are still building nuclear power plants till tomorrow, so stop typing garbage through your asss.
You're barking up the wrong tree. Is that what you grabbed after reading? Then let me put it another way...... would you agree that the auto industry is moving towards electric cars? If yes..... does that mean there are more electric cars on the road than petrol cars? Your answer judging from your comment should be yes.
On solar being extraordinarily expensive compared to nuclear energy..... we're in 2017.... the cost of producing solar/wind energy has longgg been less than producing nuclear energy. If we were in 2007...then I would've agreed with you on that point. We're in 2017..... like our leaders...you're not up to speed....and that's our problems.
With your outburst in this comment.... I'm now thinking if only I can get a few like you... and come up with a way to harness all this wasting organic potential energy. ... there'll be no need for solar energy.

I see this as a planned medium to siphon monies for 2019 election. After all, any monies missing from treasury acct can be explained as upfront funding for the project and we Nigerians have no other option than sit down a stare like lost baboons..

Is Chernobyl not enough? A whole region has become a wasteland for the next hundred years- because of nuclear energy. Everyone had to leave in a hurry- many with the cancer that would later kill them- because of nuclear power. And this happened in a technologically advanced country.
Chernobyl happened in Ukraine, when did it become technologically advanced. It is different from Russia.

Chernobyl happened in Ukraine which was then part of Soviet Russia's sphere of influence, otherwise known as the Soviet Union or USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics). The USSR was till 1991 (were you born then?) the biggest country in the world. Its capital was Moscow, the Russian capital.

So when will Nigeria be ready to have a nuclear power plant? No really when. When we're developed, how can we develop when the greatest threat to investment in Nigeria is not even insecurity but an unstable power supply. The cost of using alternate source of power in manufacturing and otherwise is just too much and counter productive. The risk will always be there, for Gods sake we take risk everyday! So because we might have an accident and die any time we walk out the door every morning, we should lock ourselves indoors and not go out?
I know the risks are more pronounced for a nuclear power plant citing the Chernobyl disaster which was caused not by poor maintenance as some have erroneously pointed out rather the cause was attributed more to flaws in the reactors design which literally blew up in their faces during some tests. AND do you know that an organization the International Nuclear Safety Advisory Group (INSAG) was specifically created to prevent any nuclear accidents after the Chernobyl disaster. Do you not know that the nuclear plant if and when built will not just be the sole responsibility of the Nigerian government but will always be subject to inspections and oversight from world governing bodies such as INSAG and IAEA.
You complain of lack of electricity, the country tries to solve it, you still complain.
Country no do= problem
Country try to do= problem
Country do= problem
Nigerians make up your minds!

Then you should also know that even when under Russia's influence it was more or less an autonomous state just as Crimea and Belarus was and was responsible for most of its own development.

No Sir. You are the fool. In your ignorance, you failed to realise that NigeriaSat1 is different from NigComSat1. Let us educate your ignorant self a bit (pick a pencil and your history notebook. Are you ready?)

NigComSat1 was a Nigerian communications satellite that was launched in 2004. It is floating about today, lost in space. It is different from NigeriaSat1 which is a Nigerian earth-observing satellite that was launched in 2003.

Lesson: NigComSat1 is not also called NigeriaSat1 or NigerSat1 as you wrongly and boldly proclaimed.

Advice: read read read. Speak less to avoid washing your dirty linen in the marketplace.

How can you be so painfully ignorant that you cannot recognize that the 'NigerSat2' in that article you posted up there was a typographical error by the person who compiled the story-that they meant to type NigeriaSat2?

For the last time, get this! There is nothing like NigerSat2 (at least not yet). It is NigeriaSat2!
Re: Nigeria Signs Agreement With Russia To Build Nuclear Power Plant by Obi1kenobi(m): 12:06pm On Nov 01, 2017
Nuclear power is certainly the future, but if advanced nuclear tech nations like the Soviet Union could flirt with disaster, then I'm certainly skittish about a country like Nigeria where nothing works operating nuclear technology. Even forgetting the famous Chernobyl disaster whose legacy Ukraine still confronts today, Japan's Fukushima crisis in 2011 will result in an estimated 600+ radiation-related cancer deaths in the coming years. Over 1,600 perished in the desperate evacuation efforts. This is an advanced country that knows how to manage disaster seeing as earthquakes, monsoons and tsunamis regularly plague Japan. A nuclear accident happening in Nigeria would be catastrophic.
