diegwu01: Issue with Buhari medical trip is he spent many months outside Nigeria, at that he didn't tell anyone what was wrong with him nor came clean how much his trip was costing Nigeria, Ekwueme isnt a serving President no eyebrows will be raised about his trip, but Buhari is a serving President, in his campaign he promised to end aboard medical trip for elected officers and this is what people are holding him accountable too, if you can't tell us how much he is spending let him atleast tell us what is wrong with him 1 Like |

adem30: A sitting president that spent more days abroad treating himself, a president who hasn't told you what is wrong with him or how much his treatment is costing Nigeria, Buhari himself attacked Yar'adua for seeking medical treatment aboard, buhari promised to end aboard medical trip for elected officers he can't be hypocritical and expect people to keep quiet about it. |

Buhari Sent Hbd To Him, You Guys Said Its Love For SE. Buhari Is Trying All Posible Methods Of Damage Control But The Wise Know That. Let This Kind Of Buhari Love Befall You. adedayoa2:Buhari Is A Man, He Might Be A Good MAN With A Good Heart. But It Is Not Eveything His Aids Will Use To Score Cheap Political Points. If His Family Should Ask For Help, One Out Of Many Billionires In Anambra Will Foot The Whole Medical Bills. He Should Have Done It Via Email Or Personal Contact To The Family. That Family Would Have Been The One To Praise Fg Not The Other Way Round. The Same Way He Has Been Receiving His Pensiont and Allowances Unnotice. |

nwabobo: I repeat, the law is silent on who determines WHERE NECESSARY. I am less concerned if it is his family, his doctors, government doctors, Minister of health or even PMB who determine "WHERE NECESSARY" that eventually leads to the provision of an ambulance, a plane and payment of the medical bill AS LONG AS the old man gets quality treatment on time anywhere in the world. |

Wow...Am I the only one that thinks giving this long list of entitlement to all past presidents and vice presidents ( no doubt other subordinates will have something similar as well) is just excessive and a great financial drain on the country? Why should the government be funding the entire life of a former president or vice president just because they managed to 'serve' the country for 4 years? And it's is disheartening that everybody is bugged down with ethnic and tribal sentiment instead of the extremely expensive remuneration even after leaving office these politicians are enshrining in the constitution for themselves and there family while vast majority of the country are struggling. I think this remuneration is far too much. |

[quote author=nwabobo post=62048621]As a former vice president, Dr. Alex Ekwueme is entitled to free medical treatment abroad paid for by the Federal government. Why Buhari and his aides are making so much noise about Dr. Ekwueme's entitlement being accorded him beats me. See REMUNERATION OF FORMER PRESIDENTS AND HEADS OF STATE (AND OTHER ANCILLARY MATTERS) ACT Perquisites of office of former Vice-Presidents Personal staff 1. (1) An officer not below the rank of a Chief Administrative Officer. (2) A Personal Secretary not below Grade Level 10, who shall be selected by the former Vice-President and paid by the Federal Government. Security Civilian Vice-President 2. (1) Two to three armed policemen. (2) One State Security Service Officer not below Grade Level 8 as an Aide de Camp to be attached for life and paid by the State Security Agencies. Vehicles 3. (1) Two vehicles to be bought by the Federal Government and liable to be replaced every four years. (2) The drivers shall be selected by the former Vice-President and paid by the Federal Government. Protocol 4. (1) Diplomatic passport for life. (2) Entitled to protocol within and outside Nigeria. Medical services and vacation 5. (1) Free medical treatment for former Vice-Presidents and their immediate family within Nigeria. (2) Treatment abroad for former Vice-Presidents and their immediate family and where necessary at Federal Government expense. (3) Thirty days annual vacation within and outside Nigeria at Federal Government expense. Provision of office accommodation 6. A modestly well-furnished and equipped office in any location of the choice of the former Vice-President in Nigeria. Provision of residential accommodation 7. A well furnished three-bedroom house to be provided in any location of the choice of the former Vice-President in Nigeria. Postal privileges 8. One direct telephone line at Federal Government expense. http://www.lawnigeria.com/LawsoftheFederation/REMUNERATION-OF-FORMER-PRESIDENTS-AND-HEADS-OF-STATE-(AND-OTHER-ANCILLARY-MATTE People should argue objectively. Has Buhari himself made announcement on this? Let the old man get his treatments. It's not everything we need to attack Buhari. Lets be sensible. What you posted is not a new thing. All the past leaders enjoy it. |
