Why will a Nigerian solider be attached to an ordinary Chinese man? Who is he and what is he her for? Huzzling. I am ashamed of our military system here. Why should the military approved the released of our high trained soldiers to guard China pigs. Let our Chief of Defense staff or any army official go to their country for holiday and see if the government there will give the officer any boys scout to guard him. Pls use African magic and send them packing.

I use to work for an Indian oil & gas coy called sterling energy exploration coy. They took advantage of our corrupt & ineffective system. Poor working condition. I had to call it a day without being sacked. They are bold in how they intimidate Nigerians. I believe people in high places in power in the country are under their payroll. Nigeria is in dire need of a Revolution but not the IPOB type. One that will bring sanity to the overall level of governance and we the youth can do it. Only if we are united.
[ quote author=zoedew post=62640512]One word for the cause of this is “corruption”! We share the collective guilt of tolerating it and maximum advantage is taken by other nations to do us in. The Chinese, Indians et al do these things without a care in the world because they have the authorities you will have to complain to on their payroll. The regulatory agencies will look the other way until their hands are forced via costly and time guzzling litigation. Not many Nigerian citizens can afford that.[/quote]

This is what you call a sweatshop - long hours, poor pay and poor work benefits.

There are loads of them in China and India. In India, you have underaged kids working in factories. It is a common sight children working in brick making factories in India.

Foreign investors import the labour practices in their home countries. That is why American or German companies are a joy to work in and Chinese and Indian ones the opposite.
I thought china is the best thing that ever happened to Africa. cheesy

Thank God you know that you can't give what you don't have.

China has no regards for human rights. Don't expect that in their government sponsored companies.

The work-related injuries are unfortunate, but from the pictures, the workers appear to be receiving appropriate medical care, which is probably being paid for by the Chinese company.

I don't wish that on anybody.

They obviously bribed the Soldiers the same way any rich person in Nigeria does. If they don't want to get maltreated they should stop working for the company.

I would prefer European Union as a world power. It is better than having a single country as a world power.

What is the duty of Nigerian Labour congress? That aside, i am very sure the major problem is lack of unity and greed among workers, if all the workers come together and form a union and give the Chinese workers strict terms and conditions of service that if broken will lead to "all" workers abandoning their duties and collapsing operations there is no way they wont adhere to it but i trust my Nigerian brothers, by the time them give 5-10 people envelopes they will support oga even if they are using the blood of other workers to fuel generator angry angry

I would prefer to be a Gala and Lacasera hawker on the streets of Lagos than to work for a Chinese factory in Lagos ... everybody knows they are HELL HOLES and TORTURE HOUSES!

The Chinese construction company doing some projects in Lagos are a lot better because they work in the open and if they try any rubbish they can get beaten by people.

This post reminds me of my last semester in UI, CECC came to take final year engineering grads for internship.

See , enthusiasm we boys get, I just dey laugh inside.

I live in Lagos and I know what all those bas.tards in ilupeju are capable of.

After one very hard exam, they carry their candidates. China man sabi better thing. All of them 1st class and 2.1 .

Distributed them to various projects country wide. About 15 in number.

The guys in Calabar wey all cramped into one room unfit for living.

The guys in Lagos didn't even get accommodation.

All the guys in calabar fell seriously sick as a result of the living conditions. All of them left one by one.

The guys in Lagos didn't even spend as much time. How can a trained engineer assigned to menial jobs. There supervisors don't even have degrees. Once you are black, to China man you be labour grin

6 months down. Not a single one of them is still with CECC.

Last time I spoke with one he was still coughing small small grin

One of my guys for Addax dey always do like na big man. Oga keep your big man to your self. We know say you dey see shege for there. grin

I don't know why any topic related to Stupid Asians maltreating a fellow Nigerian hurts me this much, I guess probably because I was once a victim, though mine is just the welfare package cos if my own be like this Ehn, I will have been charged to court for murder.. This reminds me of how one Stupid Mr Aniyikaye from NLC that do come to our office while I was working with the most useless Indian IT firm called STPL(Aptech) in VI. His main motive of coming down to this place is to check on the welfare of the staffs oo, but reverse is the case, my foolish Indian boss will give him a nice treat alongside N100k for his transport fare without even saying hello to any staff. We Nigerians are our Problem, OP I know either your Hr or assistant HR must be a Nigerian, that foolish Old Man or Woman is u guys problem.. it will be very difficult for a foreigner to treat a Nigerian like a poo without the consent of one Stupid Nigerian fronting for him /her.. me later resign without getting another job sha. Lastly, blame your Government. undecided

I dread all these steel company jobs. I used to have a neighbor when I was in the university. The young guy was making a lot of money in a steel company. One morning, I just woke up and heard that he had died in a pot of molten iron. The guy practically cooked to death like meat. Damn, I had nightmares for weeks.

And yes, as someone started above, I have witnessed not once how my fellow expats treated nigerians like cra.p and nothing happened, NOTHING. NLC people would come for a visit, take a lunch and a fat envelope, and happily go home. They would not look into the matter, they would not bother to check if the employee was at fault or the employer, etc. The employee steals, gets fired, and nothing happens. Another employee has a problem when the employer is in breach of employment contract, and in the end fires the employee. Nothing happens, again.

The biggest problem of Nigeria are some Nigerians. NOT expats. if everyone is forced to obey the law, there would be no problem. But everybody knows how it goes.If you want to violate the law, all you have to do is to find out whose palms to grease, and how much. As simple as that.

As a chinese translator I worked for this company, theres another company called Jiuxing, they are neighbours. I decried the staggering pollution and dehumanizaion of workers but it never made front page. Theres a guy there who had his legs cut off in that company but no one to speak for him. All the chinese there have no valid papers. The laws broken there daily cannot be enumerated. Everything said here is true.
