Anambra community laments exclusion, abandonment as bridge nears collapse

July 15, 2020 Okechukwu Onuegbu News 0

Some people of Umuawulu, Awka South Local Government Area, Anambra state, Wednesday, protested over the deplorable condition of Habba bridge, which according to them have turned a deathtrap.

The bridge, which is the major access road through Umuawulu community, the permanent site of National Orientation Camp—Mbaukwu/Umuawulu, and Awgbu, Amaokpala in Orumba North Council area and some communities in Imo and Abia states respectively have been partially washed away by flood.
They also faulted the government alleged refusal to include their name on signages installed on roads to Nibo and Awka in Awka South LGA, describing it as a sign that Umuawulu was no longer part of Anambra state.

Addressing the newsmen, a community leader and activist, Comrade Osita Obi, while recalling that governor Willie Obiano two years ago, carried a palliative works on it with a promise to construct a new bridge thereafter, lamented that stakeholders from the community have officially written to the State government reminding them of the project all no avail.

“We are appealing for the state government urgent intervening on the bridge. The state government promised to complete the work but never come. Some of our stakeholders wrote to them but they never come. This bridge is the only access to over ten communities.

“They are all agrarian communities. It deplorable condition affects farmers and other commuters especially the officials and members of NYSC who take it every day. We are appealing to the government to within one month construct a new Habba bridge and effect the corrections on the signage. We will mobilise for mass action if they fail to address our plights,” he added.

Also speaking, a banker in the community, Mr Peter Nwafor, said the condition of the bridge impacts negatively on their socioeconomic activities, including transactions of agri-produce, as well as grounded some institutions due to low patrons.
On his part, Comrade Chukwuma Nwankwo, while alleging that at least two persons either die or get maimed on the spot every year, bemoaned that “People die on the spot every year because no vehicle passes it without slowing down to avoid damaging their vehicles.

” After that, they have to change speed in order to climb the mountain. Most times trailers and other heavy duty vehicles while trying to do this lose control and roll down to clash into Habba bridge, killing fish and other marine animals. Last year, four people died while our town union secretary general got palalised when a trailer going to unload cement rolled down at the spot.
But reacting in a phone interview, Mr Marcel Ifejiofor, Anambra State Commissioner for Works, said they have directed the State Emergency Management Agency ( SEMA ) to the brdige, while the State Signage and Advertising Agency (ANSAA) was already desinging a replacement to the signages.

Its only in Anambra that the governor abandons his state capital to concentrate on his village. Obi with Agulu, Obiano with Aguleri. Meanwhile, more people from their villages reside in Onitsha and Awka than at home.

Anambra resident groans over bad roads in capital city

June 18, 2020 Okechukwu Onuegbu News 0

A resident of Anambra State, Mr Obiora Chukwudi, has bemoaned the state government’s inability to rehabilitate some failed portions of roads in Awka, the state capital. According to Chukwudi, the devastated roads which include Chief S.M. Okeke Street, Isiagu-Amikwo Road, Umudioka-Zik’s Avenue Road, Old High Court-Akwata Road, Faith Cathedral-Mosque Street and Emma Nnaemeka/Authur Eze Avenue, have turned a deathtrap.

He argued that most roads built between 1999 and 2000 have been damaged with vehicles breaking down on them every time.
“Regularly, vehicles break down on this road due to the failed portions which are now degenerating into bigger holes with the coming of the rains. Last time, a woman was coming from a hospital with her child and unfortunately, the whole place was flooded due to heavy downpour in Awka. She fell into the water with her child and got wounded,’’ he said.

Chukwudi appealed to governor Willie Obiano to urgently embark on rehabilitation of the roads to save the state capital from imminent flooding and erosion this rainy season.

The airport project must have triggered the madness in you. It is now very clear you an agent of the devil that was sent to deceive us here, but unfortunately you failed woefully as the projects continues. Your deception wouldn't have worked because the governor nor his team don't even know that a hopeless frustrated scallywag like you is existing

We assure you that we can never allow you to hijack this thread in order to continue your demonic sadistic posts. All over Anambra, from Awka, Onitsha, and all over the rural areas, Anambra has the best road networks at least compare to any state in the region.

Very good development. Anambra is developing state wide.

#Getting Federal Housing Estate, Nnewi activated 36years after, is in line with our deliberate efforts to energize our Economy.

In order to create an organized settlement within our cluster, I pushed for reactivation of the Federal Housing Project, Nnewi, situated at almost the Nnewi/Ukpor boundary. This project was conceived and abandoned in 1983 during the Shehu Shagari-led Second Republic.

#Today, we are almost done with provisions of infrastructural facilities like construction of roads, provision of water and connecting the estate with power supply for the about 300 units of buildings. Watch armature video sent to me below.

Everybody will openeyes to know the company that will be awared various contract.

Also, the kind of people Federal Gov send to work there.

We want to make sure Ndiigbo get their fair share of representation.

The airport should not be turned to an extension of Kano international airport or Lagos international airport or even Abuja inetrnational airport were Fulani and Yoruba control everything.

We need to start now to secure our future and children future.

In addition, Anambra government should make provision for a railway line direct from the airport for both passenger and freight.

This is wat makes the airport world class.

It's integrated transport services.

Railway is the future of transportation and mass transportation.

U cannot have massive commuters and no means to evacuate them in mass.

The railway and coach station should be added to the airport plan, if indeed it is also a passenger airport.

Yh, The railway line is part of the airport project.(Railway line that will link the south east region) But I don't think work has commenced on it, they are only working on the three major highways leading to the airport.

They need a separate teriminal area in the airport for the train and heavy vehicle.

It has to be close to the terminal building for ease of transportation for passengers.

If the train terminal is far, then the airport need to provide free shuttle to take passengers to the train station.

We are talking about bus station and train platform.

Also, cargo storage and vehicle loading area with cargo train platform.

That airport is not the design for the Anambra airport. For one Anambra will not attract over 30 million passengers per year. That airport looks like it has the capacity to handle over 50 million passengers. There is nothing happening in Anambra that will attract that many people. And I know for a fact that render was not made for the Anambra international airport.

I used to support this government until I realized that they are not serious. They do more marketing than real work. Look at what lowly Ebonyi has achieved in 4 years. Meanwhile Obiano is competing with Gburu Gburu for lack of achievement. Simple Conference Center he cannot complete. Roads are falling apart left and right under his very poorly performing commissioner of works.

Ask yourself one simple question before posting pictures of airports in Europe. Which Nigerian state has the money to build a world class airport to support just 1 million passengers. Answer. NONE. Not even Lagos State. Nigerian government had to itself borrow to build new terminals in Lagos, Port, Abuja and Enugu from the Chinese so please let's be REALISTIC. Anambra cannot build any decent airport with its pitiful resources. It is common sense.

For comparing Ugwuanyi with Obiano shows you are just an idiot. Anambra is moving forward in all areas of development. Anambra roads are still the best.
