My people....please help chook mouth for this matter. I have a friend that got her visa for visiting in 2016. they used for the purpose it was obtained same year. In 2017, she used same visa for birthing (she sent notification of intent) without issues. The visa expires in May 2018 and she intends to go back for another missionary journey by June 2018. Due to the recent stories attached to Dropbox renewal, I advised her to jejely enter the US with her current visa instead of reapplying to avoid stories that touch. since her visa expires on 5th, i told her to enter US by 1st but she is insisting on renewal because she feels CBP officer might frown at few days left and just stamp her in for days/2 weeks. I am really worried for her and hope my fellow mamas in the house can help nail the matter on the head. I will show her all responses please don't wakapass oh......apologies for the long post

My opinion is that if she leaves April on that same visa or on a renewed version, entry into the USA is still at the discretion of the cbp Officer with the same criteria or scrutiny in place regardless. Even if she had a day left or a year to go on the visa it still doesn’t matter as we all know people have entered with their visas expiring that same week it’s not an issue. The long and short of my story is grin let her carry the documents and money just Incase and she’ll be alright. Cheers

As has been mentioned here times without number, entry into and duration of stay in the us is approved by the CBP, wether your visa has a day or 2yrs left. What matters here is that she's still within her rights to enter even is her visa has just one day left. She should just have her burden of proof

Hello mamas,

I would like to appreciate everyone who has contributed to this forum. Even though this is my second missionary journey, I learnt so much from reading people's experiences. Got into LA via Virgin Atlantic on Monday. Had an overnight layover in London and i approached the UK Border Officer for a transit visa as advised here. Was granted a transit visa for 24 hours. Flight to LA was long and tiring as I travelled with my 1 year old though my mum travelling with us eased things a great deal.

My POE experience.

Landed at LAX at 1pm. I had requested for a wheelchair so I was wheeled straight to the CBP officer and didn't have to queue.

Handed him our passports. He asked to see my daughter and started chatting with her.

CBP Officer: How long are you guys here for?
Me: 9 weeks.

CBP: 9 weeks? What are you here for?
Me: I'm here to have a baby.

CBP: So you just come here to have babies?
I smiled.

CBP: And you have how much with you?
Me: $xx

CBP: Place your right four fingers here.

He stamped us in for 6 months. He didn't check any documents.

God is truly amazing. The wheelchair assistance lady helped us with our bags in agric and stayed with us till my host arrived. I had two bags filled with foodstuff but nothing was seized. Got Mr Fred's contact from @brownshoogah and @julzz. He got us a nice place 2 mins from Dr M' s office. Waiting for my first appointment.

Thank you to everyone for your immense help. God bless you.

I sent you a mail.
What hospital are you using in LA and what is the price quote.
Thank you. Please Kindly reply

@The bolded is quite key here, why will you guys feel so? Are you guys not intent on her declaring her purpose of going into the US?

As long as purpose is declared and it passes, she will get her normal 6months approval from CBP, unless she plans to do otherwise.

I actually don't have any story. I am a frequent traveler to the US so I have a valid visa and I have informed the embassy of my intentions. It's just that a lot of my friends went early this year and because they did through JFK, they've all come back to me saying I should have gone through JFK as its easier, no interrogations whatsoever. Guess it got to me when more than two people come back to say the same thing but I'm good now and have read up people's experiences through Houston POE.

Thank you

I had my baby in New York in 2016 on tourist visa but I informed them at the Port of entry that I was going to have my bat and they allowed me in. Before I traveled I inquired about cost and I was told that hospital bill among other bills for self pay is $6,000 dollars. Altogether I paid almost $15,000 for the delivery ( hospital, doctor's bill, lab, anesthesia and paediatric care). But I was surprised when the hospital gave me my itemized receipt, it showed a bill of $35,000. And since I paid $6,000. The balance of $25,000 was written off as self pay adjusted discount. When I asked they said that's how the template is in their system. Anyway, I gathered all my other receipts from Doctor, lab etc. Fast forward to January 2018
I tried to renew my Visa. This time I applied for medical visa. Because I am pregnant again. And the interview went this way
VO- how long was you longest stay in the US
ME- 3 months
VO- what were you doing there
ME- I had my baby
Vo- how much did you pay
ME- almost$15,000
Vo- may I have the receipts
And I handed the receipts to him
Vo- you were billed $35,000 for hospital and you only paid $6,000. Why did they give you such huge discount
ME- I wouldn't know, I was asked if I was self pay or with insurance and I said self pay and they said their bill for self pay is $6,000 which I paid in full. It's possible the other bills are for those with insurance
Vo- I'm sorry at this time you do not qualify for US Visa and handed me the white paper.
I'm really upset. I have reapplied. Please help me. I want to know if there is anything I need to do before my upcoming interview to enhance my getting the visa.

Thank you for this feedback. People can just be superstitious for nothing. Have a safe delivery.
Dollarsolution:
Reporting live from HOUSTON!!! I got in 2 days ago @ about 8pm through Houston POE via. Turkish Airline.
Flight was very good but lonnnnnngggg!!!!!

I spent very roughly 7 minutes with the CBP , was with my DH, JUST FEW QUESTION.

Passport please, What are you here for?-
TO HAVE OUR BABY.

How long are you staying - 10 weeks.
No additional question, no request for doctor correspondence or financial statement.

I see that you declared more than $10k on the landing form How much do you have - told him

Ok; your fingers here blah blah as usual.

Stamped us in in for 6 MONTHS.
Told us to wait aside and shouted ESCORT, I was like what 'escort kea''
A border officer later came and told us we need to go another place where I will fill another form since I declared more than 10K USD. Filled a form and that was all (currency declaration form).

The officer told me its legal to bring any amount just make sure you declare, its only illegal when you don’t declare it.

Proceeded to Agricultural for food check, indomie chicken was seized. All others sail through

Thank God for favour and to the wonderful people on this amazing thread for knowledge, support and guide! Been reading since last year. Information is power!

Now resting, seeing Dr Today.

For those willing to share accommodation in Houston close to OAKBEND MEDICAL CENTRE PLZ BUZZ ME.

Safe delivery, POE and visa interviews to everyone!!!

Please always declare food stuff or money what ever you have !!! Just be honest.
In my presence another Mamaa was given a heavy fine for concealing the agricultural products she had in the bag and didn’t indicate on the form.

I think it’s going to be difficult for people who went for cheap and cheerful hospitals to get their visas renewed again. Paying all your bills is not the issue here, the issue is the amount you paid. Heavily discounted bill will be hard to explain, $3500.00 down to $6000 is unexplainable, self paid or not.

Those hospitals are probably getting the shortfall from the government which explains why VOs are digging in now on this.

My advice will be to re-apply and emphasize that you paid what the hospital quoted as self-pay cost and only became aware of the $35k when you requested for Zero Balance and recieved your itemized Bill... ensure your new budget for hospital is well over what you spent the last time and preferably use a different hospital from the first, use an hospital with a more straight forward billing system... present your receipts totaling $15000 first and only give the itemized billingbif asked for it. You can also do a cover page showing the total sum you spent at your last trip. That’s what I did.

All the Best.

Do you still have the original self pay package document you signed and did you go with it?

And so DW was delivered of our baby- a boy, on Feb 10.
To God be the glory for a safe and successful delivery. She and baby were discharged 2 days after.
I wanted to know from the nurse who took baby's data how soon we can get the birth certificate and she was like, it usually takes 30 to 60 days but you can start calling this number (she gave me a list of numbers) in 2 to 3 weeks.
LA (or do I say, California) mums, abeg how long did it take you to get your babys' birth certificates? Can this be expedited?
We didn't plan staying so long after child was delivered. This state is damn too expensive to continue to stay.

Congratulations first of all.
I will say give it 2-3 days then locate the office that covers the county you had your baby and walk in straight there to enquire.
If it were to be Houston you will get it in very few days after birth.
