Trapnews:You really didn't have to talk like a brainless chimp. Of course, that approach is reserved only for situations where the patient is suspected to be a (dead-on-arrival) patient. You tell bring someone who has been electrocuted to my hospital after several minutes of the incident, or someone whose head was crushed in an accident that happened several hours earlier. Chances are very high the person would be dead on arrival. But Nigerians still bring such bodies to the hospital to see if anything can be done. While that isn't wrong, doctors can't bring the dead back to life. 1 Like |

frankbonus: It is proper to start attending to an emergency case right from the car park or even before arrival at the hospital. The prompt attention given by the Health professional as he is been received can make a difference. The issue is what happens if the patient was found to be dead? Do you still admit him? You have to take into account that; (1) healthcare is provided for the living person. There is nothing a Doctor or a nurse can do to improve the health of a person who is certified dead. (2) This is a Private Hospital built and run through private investment and we all know what could happen is the dead body was allowed into the building. It would be abandoned and the hospital will waste its resources of time, space and money trying to sort out the case. |

Dont just talk, qoute references. In proper hospital settings , there is a triage area, where they bring in all emergencies and a triage officer will assess them and take in the most critical into the ER. He wont take in a dead patient, they send to morgue, he will not even take in a patient that he knows they might not be able to save he will be looking for the most critical patient that the interventions within the hospitals ER can save , take in those ones before considering others. This are appropriate response in triaging, you cant be busy doing cpr on a dead patient when you have another with splenic rupture that can be brought back to life if you respond fast. Now in many hospitals in Nigeria, including UCH, LUTH, National Hospital Abuja the triage is just outside their ER. So tell me what this Hospital has done wrong 1 Like |

See people defending breach of ethics here, this is how many patients are pronounced dead on arrival in nigerian hospitals,we behave like animals and even get fellow animals to defend rubbish, was the patient ever taken into the hospital emergency treatment room? Was there any effort by the incompetent doctors to try their best inside the hospital and not outside? The answer is NO,this is incompetency at its height, look at the doctor striding back into the hospital black panther style, for all those defending these rubbish, may GOD not allow you experience bullshit like this. |

Just imagine the way we reason in this part of the world, a patient oooo(emergency or no emergency) should at least be taken care of properly. To all spewing d #IAMADOCTOR thrash, I pray u don't have to lose a loved one and d person gets attend to at d gate post without proper way of treatment. My questions are : 1. What if d patient is still on a very lowest pulse, and you will need a digital monitor to view d pulse movement? 2. Is d gate a treatment room for a hospital? 3. If a hospital can be afraid of reputation because of death reasons, let the hospital be a restaurant instead (at least people rarely die there) 4. If d dead person was d doctor in charge relative, would he had done that? Pls do think through all angles before spewing out thrash from ur buccal cavity oo 1 Like |

You guys who are blaming hospital and the doctors don’t know what you are saying. Here are some answers to your sentiment; In a saner society, patient relatives would not pin the death of a patient already dead on doctors. Here in Nigeria, the doctors are accused of killing a dead person they brought in. Educated and rich people as you mentioned would respect the doctors when he tell them their relative they brought in is dead before arrival at hospitals. If they have doubts, they would not start by vandalizing hospital properties and beating its staff. They would seek legal redress. In a saner society, ambulance would bring in patient and wait to see what follows. Nobody is suddenly turning himself to Usein Bolt. Besides, relative tracing is easier due to their robust system. I read a story that happened in UCH Ibadan, a couple of years ago. One poly Ibadan student brought in dead and was taken in. The doctor that saw the patient came out to tell those who brought her that the patient was dead. They mobilized their colleague to come and distrupt the hospital activities. To cut the long story short, autopsy revealed the lady died of unsafe abortion. Patients and relatives could be most ungrateful sometimes. They lie as if the act is going out of fashion. In conclusion;- there’s nothing wrong in certifying people brought in dead (BID) outside the hospital to for the security of entire hospital especially when those who brought the dead body are evidently unruly. |

EgunMogaji:Then we must exist in different time zones. Preparing to go off to work then. Some things baffle me, like how people criticize doctors who expend their lives trying to make people better in this hell-ridden country. Just observe how doctors after training here do everything within their means to leave the country for greener pastures, to places where they're better appreciated. People who spend their lives taking care of ungrateful citizens yet no one bothers to ask them anytime, 'doc, are you ok?'. Underpaid, ill-equipped, abused and degraded by the same people they lay down their youth, happiness and families for. Nigerians are indeed the most ungrateful people ever! My advise to any aspiring doc, when you graduate, abeg go to Canada. Go to USA or other 'countries' where you will be treated as a human if not a god. Enough of all these. Let their politicians and religious clerics take care of them. They're very much capable. No life of any Nigerian is worth it. See how people bash them here, when they fall sick tomorrow they'll carry their useless heads and go to hospitals after their pastors and imams have fleeced them of what they ought to have given to the hospitals. Shithole country with shithole citizens. 3 Likes |

webincomeplus: I can definitely relate with this. I work in a hospital and sometimes when the patients are brought in, rigor mortis has already set in, yet the relatives will shouting "owuo oo, owuoo( he is dying)". And this was giving the hospital bad reputation so the medical director checks such cases outside . |

Another Doctor bashing post on nairaland? ![]() It's clear that these arguments will continue unabated because one side posits emotional and rather pandering arguments and the other side, rational and logical thought. There's a middle ground, but emotional arguments are inherently irrational and blind the aggrieved parties to facts. |

Frustrated people who have been frustrated by jamb will come online bashing people they secretly adore and envy. I'm not surprised. It's easy to brand them as animals and fake and this and that. Just do me a favour, when next you need their help, solve your problem yourself. No one is forcing you to visit the hospital. I mean come on, treat yourself. Just treat yourself. Visit your pastor or imam. No big deal. No one is begging or forcing you. But to come online and bash people, you're the worst set of animals. Mr money-in-the-bank, pls build your own clinic in your sitting room, go and study medicine and become mother Theresa in your house. No be by force. Frustrated people! |

The hospital is simply being defensive. How can a hospital doctor certify someone dead at the gate of the hospital? Pictures showed they were outside the gate and remain at the gate as the doctor walked away. How is this action different from shutting out. Nigerian professionals should learn to be smarter or be professional in their approaches. If they had taken the guy in to their intensive care unit , the claim for shutting out would fail. When did hospital doctors start attending to patients from the gate? |

You shouldn't certify him dead just at the entrance of the gate. The doc should have at least, electrocute him again with the machine that dey use to use inside America film. That will make the body do greeee griii!... He just put headpiece for ear and put The plug for the victim chest, con talk say e don die..... |

nkwuocha: Why should I email you? You don't have any effect. An atom is even more useful than you incase no one is bold enough to tell you the truth. Next time you have appendicitis, carry your kitchen knife and treat yourself after your pastor has laid his hands on you. The day you walk into any hospital for help, you're not walking out.
