A tailor buys a material made from India , the button from China ,the thread from Indonesia and the gum stay from China and he sews this material in Aba to make a perfect suit ....the suit would be made in Aba because he does the finishing

That's the modern business processes

There's no car company doing 100 percent components manufacturing. What makes it manufacturing or assembling is the percentage of local contents .

How can one forget the infamous "TAKATA AIRBAGS" fitted into virtually every car which resulted into many death? That company is partly owned by TOYOTA, that is how connected the car industry is

From what am seeing the body parts are locally made , I think it is the engine components(not all) that are outsourced

Don't forget they were into spare parts manufacturing way before finally going into full fledged car making, Nnewi itself is a hub of auto manufacturing ,from brake pads to , clutch,to car battery.

I give up on them If you take a look at the worldwide number of car brands vis-a vis the number of manufacturers who make their own engines- the ratio is quite low and is reducing further.

Engine development is quite an expensive and time consuming affair for any OEM. The average lead time to develop an all new engine is approx. 36-40 months if not more. Compare this to an 18-20 month development time for a new vehicle.

For big ticket players like GM, Ford, Toyota, VW, FIAT etc. who themselves own a lot of brands, it makes sound business sense to have a central kitty of engines which then can be used across the group brands to obtain economics of scale.

For specialised car makers such as Lamborghini,Jaguar, Pagani, Noble, Lotus etc. it really comes down to playing to your strengths. As pointed out, an OEM can outsource anything- so if you can buy a world class, well-proven engine from Mercedes/ Audi then why waste money and time on developing one??

However, he should quit cloning other brands, it will continue to make his brand inferior.
He should do whatever it takes to get his own designs, it will fetch him more local patronage and make Nigerians proud of his creativity.
And not to forget to make it affordable for Nigerians! We can't buy his cars if the price compared with imported ones are slightly indifferent.

The Chinese economy at it best is the cloning of the Western technology.
Japan did same thing before it became an industrial Power house

Besides all the car companies in the world, copy each other. There is no single design that is exclusive of one company...do your check

Their problem is not doing enough branding, so when you see a design you begin to think you saw it elsewhere. But if their adverts are constantly on the media , you will begin to see them as first lead designers

Please, educate me! Which car manufacturer manufactures the parts of their cars? What all of them do is to design and send the design to manufacturers. Then the manufacturers do their individual works and car companies assemble.
That's the same thing that innoson is doing.

Assuming I am reaching out to only people who are basically matured to understand the realities of life and by that I mean 21years+
This Yoruba and Igbo issue self...
As if they are the only tribes in Nigeria
Sometimes a Fulani,Hausa,Ijaw,Tiv or Ibibio can hide under this forum to stir up controversy then it becomes a media war between these two irreconcilable tribes.
If a non partisan Fulani or Hausa man condemns Buhari's govt,Yoruba's will definitely think its Igbo
In the same vein if an IGBO praises Buhari,Igbos will definitely point at Yoruba Moslems and in general Yoruba.
Now a car is being manufactured in Igboland,some people out of hatred are saying all sorts of rubbish wishing it was in their land.
When will this tribal fight stop so that we can move forward.
Igbos are so many in Lagos because of the structure of this country;How can there be only 1 fully consessioned port in Lagos,why not develop IMO River so that goods can be flown in directly in to Igboland and watch how atleast 50%of Igbo businesses will be relocated to Igboland.
If these two sophisticated tribes can't stop this their cat and mice game,they will be played the fool by the Northerners.
Northerners have food in abundance in this union,so they are as well important but sometimes their penchant for purposeless leadership and violence has been the problem.
The only thing holding this nation together (albeit forcefully) is the crude from delta,akwaibom,rivers,bayelsa,cross river,imo,edo,abia and ondo

Great Job Mr. Innoson. It's definitely not an easy feat to establish a vehicle manufacturing plant in Africa especially in Nigeria. Keep up the good work of providing employment for very many people. I hope others would be smart enough to follow in his foot-steps and bring back home the "bacon." Most Igbos in his position would run to other places besides the east to engage in such a massive undertaking, but he stayed true to his people. I mean, if the Igbos did not learn anything from the civil war of 1967-'70, they ought to realize that any investment made outside of your enclave is NEVER safe and protected in Nigeria. Your investment is much safer OUTSIDE the four walls of Nigeria than it is in Nigeria. This is because the citizen's proclamations of "One Nigeria," is nothing but a ruse and just a lip service. Nigeria is NEVER ONE; HAS NEVER BEEN ONE and would NEVER BE ONE! So, to those of you who have plans of going to "foreign" lands to invest and develope, always remember the ABANDONED PROPERTY debacle. It goes without saying, "Once bitten, twice shy." Enough said!!

The man is doing a great job, I am surprised at what he is doing, though it is a small plant, those saying that he assembles the car are just not exposed, he manufactures, I currently work with Mercedes plant in Germany, most of our parts are manufactured in other countries, we mostly mold the engine and the design, every other parts are manufactured elsewhere. Kudos to Innoson. wink

That's the same thing that innoson is doing.

You are absolutely 100% correct. No car manufacturer including GMC, FORD, CHRYSLER, DAIMLER BENZ etc make all their car parts and none of them would be able to either. Only a fool would reason otherwise. Think about it, that means they have to have a tire manufacturing plant to make all the various sizes of tires; engine manufacturing plant to make all the different engines for different cars; separate plant to make all the windshields and another for all the mirrors. So it is impossible for any car manufacturer to sustain such a huge operation and it does not happen. All the different parts are sourced out to different manufacturers who then make these parts exclusively for these car makers. So, for those with pea brain that could not reason beyond their hateful rhetoric, keep your ignorance in check!
