guterMann:
Here's the full quote if you care, unless you want to believe what you want to believe.

I have written in my small book entitled The Trouble with Nigeria that Nigerians will probably achieve consensus on no other matter than their common resentment of the Igbo,” he wrote under the heading, A History of Ethnic Tension and Resentment. He traced the origin of “the national resentment of the Igbo” to its culture that “gave the Igbo man an unquestioned advantage over his compatriots in securing credentials for advancement in Nigerian colonial society.”

He observed that the Igbo culture’s emphasis on change, individualism and competitiveness gave his ethnic group an edge over the Hausa/Fulani man who was hindered by a “wary religion” and the Yoruba man who was hampered by” traditional hierarchies.”

He therefore described the Igbo, who are predominantly Catholic, as “fearing no god or man, was “custom-made to grasp the opportunities, such as they were, of the white man’s dispensations. And the Igbo did so with both hands.”

He delved into history with his claim, asserting that the Igbo overcame the earlier Yoruba advantage within two decades earlier in the twentieth century.

“Although the Yoruba had a huge historical and geographical head start, the Igbo wiped out their handicap in one fantastic burst of energy in the twenty years between 1930 and 1950.”

He narrated the earlier advantage of Yoruba as contingent on their location on the coastline, but once the missionaries crossed the Niger, the Igbo took advantage of the opportunity and overtook the Yoruba.

“The increase was so exponential in such a short time that within three short decades the Igbos had closed the gap and quickly moved ahead as the group with the highest literacy rate, the highest standard of living, and the greatest of citizens with postsecondary education in Nigeria,” he contended.

He said Nigerian leadership should have taken advantage of the gbo talent and this failure was partly responsible for the failure of the Nigerian state, explaining further that competitive individualism and the adventurous spirit of the Igbo was a boon Nigerian leaders failed to recognize and harness for modernization.

“Nigeria’s pathetic attempt to crush these idiosyncrasies rather than celebrate them is one of the fundamental reasons the country has not developed as it should and has emerged as a laughingstock,” he claimed
.

He noted that the ousting of prominent Igbos from top offices was a ploy to achieve a simple and crude goal. He said what the Nigerians wanted was to “get the achievers out and replace them with less qualified individuals from the desired ethnic background so as to gain access to the resources of the state.”

Achebe, however, saved some criticisms for his kinsmen. He criticised them for what he described as “hubris, overweening pride aand thoughtlessness, which invite envy and hatred or even worse that can obsess the mind with material success and dispose it to all kinds of crude showiness.”

He added that “contemporary Igbo behavior(that) cab offend by its noisy exhibitionism and disregard for humility and quietness.

Nobody asked you for a long epistle. undecided All we are saying is that when it suits your people, they wave Chinua Achebe's words around like a national flag, to justify their hate against other ethnic groups, and to play the victim card. But they refuse to adhere to his words of advice to jettison the bad aspects of their crass behaviour. sad

That has already been debunked on nairaland so many times over the years.

It was in fact the British that insisted on no secession as one of the conditions of granting independence.

cc; Pazienza, Igboid

Also the first Mayor of Enugu after independence was a Fulani man elected by Igbos. What Zik was trying to do in the west was not out of the norm.

It was after yorubas cross carpeted overnight and injected tribalism that Nigeria's early political progress began declining.

Another Lie so you don't know that Southern Nigeria would have had Independence before the Northern Nigeria?
Infact, the Western Nigeria had an embassy in UK which is currently used as Nigerian high commission office in UK.
Ti a ba ka eru, inu eru a baje.
Meaning if we count slaves, it reminds the slaves of how they were Princes and princesses in the past.
Nigeria is a country set up for the strong to trample on the weak, for the benefits of the colonialists.
This was why HISTORY was removed from the Nigerian educational curriculum.
Why do you think Awolowo described NIGERIA as a mere GEOGRAPHYCAL EXPRESSION?

It was the relenting agitations of the Yorubas after the annulment of the Jun-12 election that forced the military out of Government and ensured both PDP and APP fielded Yoruba presidential candidates in the 1999 presidential election.

If you are old enough, you will remember NADECO, Radio Kudirat , CD and other platforms used by the Yoruba peoples to fight Abacha.
From 1992 till when Abacha died, peoples like Arthur Nzeribe,Com Uche Chukwumerije, Walter Ofonagoro and Daniel KANU played prominent roles against realization of the Jun-12 mandate in particular and entrenchment of Northern hegemony in general.

In the heat of the National imbrogolio of 1993, Southeast governors led by Gov Evan(s) Enwerem visited Gen Ibrahim Babangida and insisted that the Jun-12 election should not be de-annuled pledging their unwavering support for the notorious military despot.

Many of you assume Nigeria started with the 2015 election.

I don't engage in inter tribal e-war but I get irritated when kids that were probably not yet born during the Jun-12 crisis come online to spew trash giving distorted account of what happened then.

Prominent Yoruba fought courageously against the annulment and military rule.
The following peoples and lots more sacrificed their lives in the process;

MKO Abiola
Kudirat Abiola
Admiral Elegbede
Pa Alfred Rewane

The following peoples were shot but escaped the attempted assassinations

Pa Abraham Adesanya
Alex Ibru

The following people were jailed/incarcerated without trials for fighting against Abacha.
Olu Falae
Gani Fawehinmi
Dr Beko Ransome-Kuti
Femi Falana
Ayo Opadokun (Secretary of NADECO)
Lam Adeshina
Journalists Kunle Ajibade, Babafemi Ojudu, Dare Babarinsa

The following people managed to escape into exile and started fighting through NADECO abroad.
Pa Anthony Enahoro
Prof Whole Soyinka
Sen Bola Tinubu
Sen Afikuyomi
Dr Kayode Fayemi
Air Com Dan Sulaimon.

During these period, thousands of Igbos packed themselves in Marcopolo buses and left Lagos and the whole southwest for igboland while prominent Igbo elites worked tirelessly for Babangida/Abacha to prevent realization of the Jun-12 mandate.
How genuinely patriotic igbos like Arthur Nwankwo, Olisa Agbakoba, Com Chime Ubani and few others supported NADECO and were opposed to IBB/Abacha

Wow! shocked You chronicled the the names of the main actors who led the protest against the June-12 annulment, so beautifully. cheesy One of the genuinely patriotic Igbo men, who was also opposed to IBB/Abacha was former Chairman of NADECO, Rear Admiral Godwin Ndubuisi Kanu (rtd).

Ok, we agree. Other Nigerians hate Igbos.

But after all the crying and moanings of victim mentality, what next? What next, I ask again?

Really, for a tribe like Igbo who claim to be so creative, industrious and wise. I have really not seen any extra-creative pan-ethnic decisions embarked on by you guys, in spite of all the millionaires and billionaires from your region.

Can't you guys come together with your state governments, form a sort of economic and regional coalition with the South-South state governments (for access to sea ports) and develop your land to be the Dubai of Africa?
I mean, apart from your large numbers of wealthy men and women, you have governors, senators, house of reps, ministers etc. Can't all these people use their brain and come together for once to make a move that will shake Africa? Then let's see how the FG and other Nigerians will come to sabotage these efforts.

But instead, your people prefer to flee your homelands and migrate everywhere else and claim to be developers of other places.

The best you people could come out with was that Illogical childish behaving Nnamdi Kanu with no respect for quality reasoning and productivity.

Arrant nonsense. See, you people should stop disturbing other Nigerians with your victim menality nonsense cos you are responsible for your own problems.
Igbo founding fathers were part of the creators of the hell hole one Nigeria we find ourselves today.

Hausa-fulani elites are the only ones holding one Nigeria ransome and massively benefiting from the status quo. And guess what, they do this in connivance with your own Igbo elites and political class.

The average middlebelter like me, Niger deltan, Yoruba or Hausa masses are not benefiting from the status quo. That is why we support restructuring.

The fight of you Igbo masses should be against your own elites who have sold you over to the Hausa-fulani elites for their pocket gains. How many times have Igbo political class challenged the core-northern elites against the existence of one Nigeria? See how they shamelessly sold Nnamdi Kanu over, and you people would come here to disturb our peace!

Why did all Igbo politicians not take a unified stance in support of Kanu against Buhari, just like all the Hausa-fulani politicians in 2001 took a unified stance against President OBJ on sharia law, to the extent that OBJ was helpless about the issue?

Lol...I must really have hit a nerve for u to be compelled to write this novel.

Pre 1966 when all tribes and regions were given a level playing field, the richest Nigerian was Igbo. The east was the economic hub of the nation (if u discount Lagos the capital).

Fast foward to after the war and when merit has been jettisoned....u now get Yorubas and hausas who are all oil billionaires (minus dangote and rabiu who are govt puppets).

Igbos are the least poor region in Nigeria regardless of all ur injustices against us. We are the ones opening up those new factories in ogun and lagos. We are the ones bringing back all those foreign exchange from abroad. We are the ones taking advantage of bans on import to manufacture replicas in Aba. We are the ones bold enough to go and open a shop in the most dreaded area of the north. We are the ones currently buying choice property in Abuja...after u guys will start crying that igbos must leave Abuja.

We the ones u love to hate...we are igbos

Your first statement is completely false!

Ibadan was far more progressive than Enugu after independence.
Even Kaduna/Kano I believe have always been more progressive than Enugu or any other city in Igbo land.

OP that's why I have decided to give them that same fucking hate by a billion times and I'm not apologetic about it either. And I'm grateful to God more Igbos are learning to give them back that hate back as well and I pray more Igbos, especially those one Niggerians Igbos, wake the Bleep up. Our parents made the most mistake by EVER seeing those animals as 'brethren' and v treating them like humans, only to get hate back from those ugly ass pigs. Whenever I see those animals wailing on IPOB and "hate speech", I feel like spitting in the face of those hypocritical animals. I always find it hilarious when those animals wail about Igbo laughing at their dead victims yet forgetting they started that shit. Hell fucking yeah I will laugh, mock and maybe even fucking party on knowing Boko Haram and/or Fulanis herdsmen are slaughtering una by your thousands exactly the same way you pigs laughed and locked Massob, IPOB and other Igbo group were killed extra judicary

Swear to you, you really don't know how much I fucking despise that shithole and every worthless, useless, animalistic Savage tribes located in that shithole especially those Southwest demons. I wish nothing but hell for that shithole and I'm grateful to God that piece of shit stays Being a hellhole till the point other Africans use them to laugh at. Those animals deserve nothing but disaster every month and thank Hod that stays happening.

Any Igbo I see treating those animals with any form of respect Or even an ounce of love to me is a complete, utter, ediot.

Very good for you that wish Nigeria a lot of evil.

I would have loved to do so too, but I know that no matter what, my people are still trapped down there and yours are too.
Keep wishing the 'hell hole' evil when all your relatives are still there. You think emancipation can ever be gotten by hatred. No, it can only come from logical thinking.

Before you expect Nigerians to speak out or show disdain ask yourself what has our governors said? what has been their body language towards all these injustice? look at Fayose, is his immunity different from that of our governors? why have they suddenly gone dumb against the killings by Fulani herdmen but were ready to proscribe and hand over Kanu immediately Buhari asked of his head.

Thank you and God bless you for this. Keep ringing this kind of message to your fellow Igbo brothers who always rant without reasoning. They don't know that the cause and solution to a problem always lies within.

Lol....only ogoni ppl and ijaw ppl sabotaged us....the akwa-cross area stood firm till the end. Asaba ppl who were not part of eastern region fought on biafran side.

No region in nigeria who wants to leave can survive the massive gang up against biafra. The boko haram war is a war where the kanuri pple of north east went to establish an independent caliphate like the sokoto caliphate.... have they succeeded? Why? because the rest of Nigeria has said no.

He saw the poor treatment of Black people in America and wanted a black nation that would unite and challenge western racism and colonialism. Unfortunately he underestimated the backwardness of typical Nigerians.

He was indeed very NAIVE.

So whose fault is that?

Yeah in Nigeria. A shithole that intentionally tries to destroy any effort Igbo and SS leaders make to benefit their region. Remind us again, who voted against the SEDC proposal that impacted or took money from anyone but SE only. Remind me the reason for the denial
Remind us again who have destroyed every attempt to improve and modify both the rivers port and Calabar ports and equally the newly built onitsha port.

I mean, apart from your large numbers of wealthy men and women, you have governors, senators, house of reps, ministers etc. Can't all these people use their brain and come together for once to make a move that will shake Africa? Go and tell that to the ministers who set up the principal of SEDC

But instead, your people prefer to flee your homelands and migrate everywhere else and claim to be developers of other places.

That's the only thing I agree with you. Good thing they finally learned that lesson, from what I heard they all returning their money back home. I honestly believe all the Igbos properties in Nigeria would burn. You lots should rot in hell

The best you people could come out with was that Illogical childish behaving Nnamdi Kanu with no respect for quality reasoning and productivity.

And what have the rest of you lots brought out? A nation with militants that blow up pipes. A leader that's hailed religious leader who killed millions in few years. Middle belt leaders that lick the asshole of any northern leaders they can think of all in the determinal of their own people. Remind us again what your governor did when Buhari came to benue despite his early pretence of standing alongside his people over the Fulanis herdsmen slaughter

Nnamdi Kanu to me was too peaceful for that shithole if you ask me. He should have been as sadistic, delivish and killer towards you pigs. I honestly think he wasted his years being too nice to you animals. I wish he actually did everything you rats accuse him of including that death you said he wanted to do. At least your hate to him would be justified

Igbo founding fathers were part of the creators of the hell hole one Nigeria we find ourselves today.
True. Who respect the Igbo founding father? Which Igbo rank Zik in a high rank. To Igbos, Zik is the worst Igbo person ever to be created hence every momentum dedicated to him in Igboland have been destroyed by the youths. Neither his family or his children are respected by any Igbo.

Hausa-fulani elites are the only ones holding one Nigeria ransome and massively benefiting from the status quo. And guess what, they do this in connivance with your own Igbo elites and political class.

Oh please. The middle belters that you are have been keeping this shithole in ransome as well. Were your leaders not screeching Arewa until recently after they started murdering you in your hundreds. I love how you like like claiming it's "Hausa/Fulanis" are the only one holding Nigeria ransome.

Apart from Igbo and Ijaw, who ever challenged the North on their greediness. Oh and don't give me shit about yoruba. After all, the second they gained power with APC, they immediately went against their restructure standards. They didn't come back to it until Buhari started sidelining them.

Again, Apart from Igbo and Ijaw which of una have ever made any effort to display their dislike for the status quo?

The average middlebelter like me, Niger deltan, Yoruba or Hausa masses are not benefiting from the status quo. That is why we support restructuring.

And yet I don't see any tangible thing you lots are doing to show that. Other than loud mouthing on social media, what have you lots done? If I recall correctly when Tuface scheduled a walk, wasn't it the so called masses that belittled him.

Name one tangible thing the so called "restructuring seeking masses" are doing? I'll wait.

And who are those ones protecting the leaders?

When okorocha was attacked in Btitain by IPOB, which group attacked Igbos for supporting the ipob member.
When an IPOB members invaded ohaneze event and again attacked them, remind us again the race that screeched like neatherthals.

How many times have Massob, IPOB and all Biafra group insulted, belittled and attacked Igbo leaders, remind us again who oppose the attacks and belittling.

Why did all Igbo politicians not take a unified stance in support of Kanu against Buhari, just like all the Hausa-fulani politicians in 2001 took a unified stance against President OBJ on sharia law, to the extent that OBJ was helpless about the issue?
Because they are sellouts hence IPOB, MASSOB are more respected by Igbos than they are. All igbo leaders are very much in aware that their saving Grace is one Nigeria. Once that shithole divides, they know they'll be victims of harsh revenge. Remember that ipob mentioned that they keeping a journal of all Igbo leaders that are sabos and their Justice will come in Biafra. They are very much aware that Nigeria is their saving Grace hence they'll continue fighting against the masses to keep this shithole going.

Get the hell away from the rest of una. As far away as we an get. If it's up to me, I'll personally blow up this shithole.

Yeah in Nigeria. A shithole that intentionally tries to destroy any effort Igbo and SSleaders make to benefit their region. Remind us again, who voted against the SEDC proposal that impacted or took money from anyone but SE only. Remind me the reason for the denial
Remind us again who have destroyed every attempt to improve and modify both the rivers port and Calabar ports and equally the newly built onitsha port.

Go and tell that to the ministers who set up the principal of SEDC

That's the only thing I agree with you. Good thing they finally learned that lesson, from what I heard they all returning their money back home. I honestly believe all the Igbos properties in Nigeria burns. You lots should rots in hell

And what have the rest of you lots brought out.

Heshould have been as sadistic, delivish and killer towards you pigs. I honestly think he wasted his years being too nice to you animals. I wish he actually did everything you rats accuse him of including that death you said he wanted to do. At least your hate to him would be justified

True. Who respect their Igbo father? Which Igbo rank Zik in a high rank. To Igbos, Zik is the worst Igbo person ever to be created hence every momentum dedicated to him in Igboland have been destroyed by the youths. Neither his family or his children are respected by any Igbo.

Oh please. The middle belters that you are have been hell is this shithole in ransome as well.

And yet I don't any tangible thing you lots are doing to show that. Other than loud mouthing on social media, what have you lots done? If I recall correctly when Tufacec scheduled a walk, wasn't it the so called masses that belittled him.

Name one tangible thing the so called "restructuring seeking masses" are doing? I'll wait.

And who are those ones protecting the masses.

When okorocha was attacked in Btitain by IPOB, which group attacked Igbos for supporting him.
When an IPOB members invaded ohaneze event and again attacked them, remind us again the race that screeched like neatherthals.

How many times have Massob, IPOB and all Biafra group insulted, belittled and attacked Igbo leaders, remind us again who oppose the attacks and belittling.

Because they are sellouts hence IPOB, MASSOB are more respected by Igbos than they are. All ignored leaders are very much in aware that their saving Grace is one Nigeria. One that shithole divides, they know they'll be victims of harsh revenge. Remember that ipob mentioned that they keeping a journal of all Igbo leaders that are sabos and their Justice will come in Biafra. They are very much aware that Nigeria is their saving Grace hence they'll continue fighting against the masses to keep this shithole going.

And so are you along with all the bastard's in that shithole.
A mad man will surely know symptoms of madness

The Igbos tru several means have tried to challenge the statusquo and have met with stiff resistance from Nigerians and the elite yet this ones is asking silly questions. Ask him wat his tribe has done to change Nigeria for the better.

They always talking about "we the masses are not enjoying the status quo. We want change. We want restructuring" and always open their coward mouth to give advice that they themselves aren't making effort to do.

Yet till date, we have yet to see any tangible thing from them to change the status quo.Briggs have been fighting for restricting for how long now? The people that repeatedly opposing her fight, excluding Igbos and Ijaw, are all the so called "we the masses that aren't enjoying the status quo".

Every person be it Nnamdi Kanu, Briggs, Dokunbo, etc tries to change the status quo gain nothing but repeateded resistance, not just by the leaders but the masses that they want changes. Quote me on this let a new person come to change the status quo and I bet you those opposing him would be the so called "restructuring seeking masses". A perfect example of the tuface's scheduled protest and Charly boy protest. Who were the ones that were insulting them? Was it the elites or the so called "restructuring Masses". Yet the morons would come here to deluxe themselves that they oppose the status quo as if we are blind to wtf happening in that shithole. That's one of my happiness about that shithole is watching the hell each of them are living in. They deserve nothing but that hellish shit they created for themselves.

Another thing that makes me laugh about those hypocritical demons is the need to advice igbos on development yet the hell they control is one of the worst nation in Africa despite it's past abduance of wealth. When Igbos controlled it, last I checked it was listed among the most developing countries in Africa. Ever since they took over, that country continues falling into a pit. Ironically enough, the only time it made growth and gained international reputation in terms again and made the highest growing GDP in Africa was when an Igbo aka NOI controlled it despite their attempt to destroy her work. Funny enough, when they took over again. That shithole is back to being oba retrogressive cycle. Funny the shithole nation cities that never exprienced war looks like it is stuck in year 1850s yet advicing those that went through war, cities destroyed and rebuilt in less than 50 years on development. I wonder when they would take their own advice actually start developing themselves instead repeatedly trying to teach those that are better in it than them on what to do. I really wonder. There stupidity on they know better development is based on traders in their region. I bet you to the fools the Lebanese, Indians and Chinese that litters Africa does so because Africa is more developed than them. What a delusional demons.

Oh and let's not forget also taking billions in loans, severely indebting their future children, just to inflate their IGR and build stupid shits like long road around nothing but huts or severally depliated building and/or bus terminals while pocketing the billions to their bank account but they are "good economics and nation building". Pitiful. They are the only nation I've seen that think bus terminals and roads are worth celebrating. The only nation where HDI is no importance to their leaders but they stupidly, thinking they are a developing community. No wonder they are shitholes and forever be a shitholes. Igbos really need to get as far away from this retrogressive animals as we can honestly.

It is really said that, ''The moment a mad man becomes aware that he is mad, he becomes well''.

Instead of you to go and look for solution to the problem of your people who are being slaughtered left, right and center by fulani herdsmen you are here hating Igbos and carrying our matter for your head. Continue while we keep progressing and leave you in the dust. By God's grace one day we will not share the same country.

Hausas are a lost tribe. No amount of insults you will give to them inspires any form of remorse from amongst them. The person you are talking to will most likely be a fulani.

Besides, I think Nigeria did not divide then in 1966 cos the Igbos were taking the Southern minorities against their wish. Why did most Eastern minorities betray the Igbos at that time?
Because a lot of people from Eastern minority groups at that time were labelled as 'saboteurs,' torn away from their homes, and thrown into detention during that civil war period.... undecided

On the contrary, Ojukwu offered Gowon and Nigeria, the option of a UN supervised plebiscite on all non Igbo speaking parts of Biafra to prove if Biafra was forcefully annexing the Eastern minorities.

Gowon following a research and advice from his British masters, who reliably informed him that such a plebiscite would lead to 2/3 of the minorities voting for Biafra while rejecting Nigeria, declined the offer.

So, No. At no point did Ojukwu forcefully annexed the minorities areas.

In an authoritative and detailed memorandum on the background, cause and consequences of the Nigerian civil war issued in November 1968 by more than sixty British subjects, including Sir Robert Stapleton, the last British governor of the Eastern region( 1959-60), it was concluded that of the 37 percent of the population which they estimated that minority group represented in Biafra, only 10% would favour continued association with the federal government".

"The unprecedented mingling of all groups and settling of many minority people in the Ibo heartland during the course of the war was simply taken for granted. Nonetheless, the Biafran regime was unreservedly committed to plebiscites in any disputed areas within Biafra, or on borders, so that people involved could determine their allegiance. It was proposed that these plebiscites be conducted under international( UN or O.A.U)supervision, and with adequate safeguard against punitive retaliation The federal government rejected the plebiscite proposal, obviously because it implied the recognition of Biafra and the substitution of a democratic vote for force of arms. Had the plebiscite been held, a ceasefire would have had to be declared, neutral observers would have been on scene, and the secession would have been revealed as a people's movement".

If Gowon and Nigeria were so convinced that Ojukwu was forcefully annexing non Igbos in Biafra, common sense dictates that he would have favoured a plebiscite to disgrace Ojukwu more, before the whole world.
