A Pennsylvania church administrator stole $1.2 million from his religious community and used the money for family theme park vacations and other personal expenses, authorities say.

David Reiter, a 50-year-old business manager and occasional keyboardist for Westminster Presbyterian Church in Upper St. Clair, faces felony charges including theft, forgery, conspiracy and receiving stolen property, according to a criminal complaint obtained by HuffPost.

His wife, 44-year-old CoDavid Reiter, of South Park, was hired as Westminster Presbyterian Church’s financial administrator in 2001 and stayed in that role for about 17 years. He is accused of skimming money from the church’s funds between 2011 and 2018, according to the Allegheny County district attorney’s office.

A northern Virginia pastor has been sentenced to eight years in prison for a $2 million fraud scheme that victimized members of his congregation and other clergymen.

A jury convicted 54-year-old Terry Millender, the former senior pastor of Victorious Life Church in Alexandria, on multiple fraud counts in a 2017 trial. A jury also convicted his wife, Brenda Millender, on some counts and acquitted her on others before a judge vacated all counts against her.

According to court records, Terry Millender recruited investors by saying he would use Nigerian oil deals to finance micro-loans to African entrepreneurs that would provide a high rate of return.
In reality, he used the money to conduct high-risk day trades and finance the purchase of a $1.75 million home.

A Stockton man who previously served as a youth pastor at a Pocomoke City church has been convicted of sexually abusing minors.

According to the Office of the State's Attorney for Worcester County, Rodney Harmon, Jr., 34 of Stockton, was convicted on three counts of sexual abuse of a minor and one count of displaying an obscene item to a minor.

The charges come from a complaint received by the Worcester County Sheriff's Office in August 2018. The Worcester County Child Advocacy Center and Child Protective Services then started a joint investigation. They found that Harmon had sexually abused multiple children while serving as a youth pastor for a local church in Pocomoke City.

Each count of sexual abuse of a minor carries a maximum penalty of 25 years’ in prison. Harmon's sentencing was deferred by the court pending a pre-sentence investigation.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reported Monday that David Lynn Richards Jr., the former minister of My Father's House Church of God in Lenoir City, awaits sentencing for rape and incest. The victim, now 21, and one of her biological siblings were fostered and then adopted by Richards and his wife, who later divorced.

She was 16 when she reported the abuse, saying it began two years earlier. She told authorities where they could find DNA evidence at her home and said Richards had texted her about taking their relationship "to the next level." Authorities said they found her mattress stripped bare and his phone factory reset, but they were able to recover his DNA.

According to figures published by Japan’s health ministry on Feb. 19, as of Feb. 10, 167 people have contracted measles across 20 prefectures. Of the reported cases, 49 of them were in Mie prefecture in western Japan, followed by Osaka with 47 cases.

Measles is transmitted through droplets from an infected person’s nose or mouth. Most measles infections last about 10 days, and while many people recover from the complications, sickness can cause serious health problems, especially in young children. Infections can lead to brain swelling, meningitis, pneumonia, and liver infections.
Japanese media reported that [/b]the large number of cases in Mie can be traced to a religious organization called Kyusei Shinkyo,[b] after a number of people were found to have contracted (link in Japanese) measles after attending a workshop held by the group in the city of Tsu late last year. HEADLINE: West Alabama preacher pleads guilty to handling young girl!!!

A west Alabama preacher has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing an underage girl three years ago.

Gregory Lucy, 63, of Dixon Mills, was arrested in 2016 after being indicted on four counts of first-degree sexual abuse and one count of attempted rape. Lucy is a bishop at El Shaddai AOH church.

According to court records, Lucy was accused of handling the girl’s breasts and genitals in March of that year. Authorities didn’t say whether the victim was a member of Lucy’s congregation.
Lucy this week pleaded guilty in a Marengo County courtroom to one count of first-degree sex abuse. As part of his plea agreement, the other charges against him were dismissed.

District Attorney Greg Griggers is recommending a 10-year prison sentence for the Class C felony conviction, records show. Griggers said in court documents the state will be opposed to any probation or any type of split sentence for Lucy.

Lucy appeared before Circuit Judge Eddie Hardaway and declined to make a statement before the court. Hardaway then adjudicated him guilty. A sentencing date has not been set and Lucy remains free on bond.

Lucy graduated from Marengo High School and attended Bishop State Community College in Mobile. He also has degrees from International Bible Institute in Plymouth, Fla., Concordia College in Selma and the University of West Alabama.

A former South Carolina pastor who was arrested earlier this year on child sex charges is headed to prison, according to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Phillip Jerard Buckson, 32, of Boiling Springs, pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor 11 to 14 years old in Spartanburg County, according to the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office.

He was sentenced to 20 years, suspended to 10 years and 5 years of probation, must register as a sex offender, and can have no contact with the victim. Two charges were dismissed.

Buckson was a formerly senior pastor at Cleveland Chapel Baptist Church, according to the church website.

A news release from authorities in February said an investigation began Jan. 30, when a Spartanburg Sheriff’s Office investigator assigned to the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received two tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Investigators said the girl was found and gave a detailed statement to investigators about her involvement with Buckson.
The girl said she had sexual intercourse with Buckson many times in multiple locations starting when she was 13. She said she became pregnant twice and had abortions to terminate the pregnancies.
Investigators said that once he was taken into custody, Buckson gave a full confession to the allegations.

According to the church’s website at the time of his arrest, Buckson was born and raised in Gaffney and attended Spartanburg Methodist College, where he played basketball.

Buckson served as one of the coordinators for the Cherokee County School Curriculum Council, the website says. He previously served as pastor at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Iva.

He had been senior pastor at Cleveland Chapel Baptist Church in Spartanburg since 2014.

A Shelby County man accused of stabbing, raping and pouring insecticides down his neighbor's throat is also a local pastor with a criminal past.

Memphis police say 58-year-old Norman Hudson forced himself into his neighbor’s home, grabbed a knife from her kitchen and raped her.

The police affidavit said that Hudson hit the victim, stabbed her in the neck and then poured the insecticides down her throat.

He faces charges for attempted murder, aggravated rape, robbery and several others.

A sign in front of Do you Believe Outreach Ministry on North Holmes Street names Hudson as the pastor of the church.

The incident Hudson is accused of happened on the morning of Oct. 9 on Wrenwood Street, just off Macon Road.

Neighbors in the area said they are more cautious after hearing about what happened.
"I don’t want to see anything like that happen ever again," one man said. "I know that detectives were here all day."

He did not want to be identified, but he recalled what happened Wednesday morning.

"They brought out a woman on a stretcher and we realized something happened to her," the man said.

The affidavit said Hudson also forced the woman to give him her bank card pin number that he later used to steal money from her account.

"Noticed around 8:30 that there were detectives and squad cars converging on that house," the man we spoke with said.

Hudson’s criminal record goes back to the early 1990s and includes charges like assault and aggravated robbery.

He remains in jail for his most recent charges on a $500,000 bond.

A former pastor [/b]avoided a trial after pleading to a sexual assault charge[b] on Tuesday, Oct. 8.

Christopher Cox, the former pastor of Long Lake Church in Traverse City, pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree criminal sexual assault, according to 9&10 News.
The TV station was the only news outlet in the courtroom when the plea was given.

Cox faced several charges of sexual assault and a charge of delivering or manufacturing methamphetamine, according to the Associated Press.

The assaults occurred March 12 and in October at Cox’s Traverse City home, AP reported.

The March 12 accuser -- a 19-year-old man -- told police his life was threatened if he told anyone about the incident at Cox’s business office in Garfield Township.
Cox was arrested on March 29 in Muskegon, according to the AP.

At the time of his arrest, police said he was in possession of a package white crystalline substance suspected to be crystal meth.

Third-degree sexual assault involves penetration as well as that the offender “has reason to know that the victim is mentally incapable, mentally incapacitated, or physically helpless, according to Michigan law.

In court, [/b]Cox admitted his victim was physically helpless, and that he didn’t have permission to have sex with him,[b] according to 9&10 News.

A former Catholic priest tried to import vile child pornography into the country, a court has heard.

Peter Andrew Hansen, 61, pleaded guilty to 23 child exploitation charges when he faced Central Local Court, in Sydney, on Wednesday.

Hansen, a Labor party branch president, from Cabramatta, has been behind bars since last October when he returned home from a four month teaching stint in Vietnam.

Hansen was initially charged with three offences after he was arrested at Sydney International Airport when Australian Border Force officers found child pornography on an external hard drive in his luggage.
He was later charged with an extra 22 charges, two of which have since been withdrawn.

On Wednesday, the court heard disturbing details of the child pornography material Australian Border Force officers found in Hansen's luggage, including [/b]seven videos of boys engaged in sexual acts.[b]

According to the police fact sheet, the videos showed [/b]boys who were 'instructed to remove their clothing and perform sexual acts on themselves and other children'.[b]

The fact sheet also stated a title page at the start of the video listed the names and ages of the minors aged 12-15. ............................

Pokrovsky’s wife, who suffers from muscular dystrophy, told the website Ya62.ru that her husband lifts weights at home and frequently knocks her down, kicks her, and chokes her. After a recent attack, she finally reported him to the police.

Lyubov Pokrovskaya also supplied journalists with photos of her injuries and an audio recording of her intoxicated husband threatening to kill her, after she asked him to release her. She is currently in hiding with their four children.

A Minnesota bishop who’s the subject of a Vatican-ordered investigation said in sworn testimony released Tuesday that he was trying to protect the confidentiality of a man who said he was sexually abused by a popular priest when he certified to other church officials that the priest was fit for ministry and to work with children.

Bishop Michael Hoeppner of the Diocese of Crookston in northwestern Minnesota acknowledged in the videotaped deposition last year that he stated in writing to the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis in 2012 that Monsignor Roger Grundhaus was [/b]“a person of good moral character and reputation” and that he was unaware of anything in the priest’s background that would “render him unsuitable to work with minor children.”[b]

But the accuser, Ron Vasek, had already told Hoeppner by 2011 that [/b]Grundhaus had abused him in the early 1970s when he was 16.[b] Vasek was hoping to become a deacon when he met with the bishop. Vasek would later sue the diocese, alleging that the bishop blackmailed him into retracting his allegations. That lawsuit settled for an undisclosed sum in 2017.
Pressed by attorney Jeffrey Anderson on why he made that assertion to the archdiocese when he already knew about Vasek’s allegations, the bishop replied that [/b]Vasek had asked him for “complete confidentiality” and that he was respecting that.[b]

Anderson released the video, the letter to the archdiocese and other documents at a news conference where he called on the Vatican to remove Hoeppner immediately. Anderson received the documents and took Hoeppner’s deposition in a lawsuit that ended in a $5 million settlement in July between the diocese and 15 people, including Vasek, who said they were abused by priests.

“The practices and the choices employed by Bishop Hoeppner, past and present, are perilous, and he continues to engage in an active pattern of concealment, deceit and deception of both his roles and allowing predators to remain in positions of power,” Anderson charged..............

The Rev. Gregory Lisby, a priest in the Diocese of Western Massachusetts, [/b]pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography[b] on Feb. 21, having been charged after FBI agents raided the rectory where he was living in September. The same day, the diocese also revealed that, since Lisby’s arrest, it has “received devastating credible evidence” that Lisby sexually abused a teenager.
Lisby had been living with his husband, then the rector of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Worcester, in the church’s rectory with their two children when the FBI found nearly 200 images and videos of child pornography in a Microsoft account Lisby used, according to court records.

At the time, Lisby was working as a kindergarten teacher in a public school in Holyoke, having been suspended in 2018 from his position as rector of All Saints Church in Worcester “for an inappropriate relationship with an adult that did not involve sexual contact,” Western Massachusetts Bishop Douglas Fisher wrote in a letter to the diocese shortly after Lisby’s arrest. Fisher added in that letter that the diocese had “no reason to believe that children in our diocese have been victimized in this situation.”

Lisby pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography in federal court in Worcester. In a letter to the diocese announcing Lisby’s plea, Fisher also shared that the diocese had learned of the abuse allegation against Lisby. The letter did not specify where or when the abuse is alleged to have occurred except to say that it happened after Lisby was ordained a priest in 2007. A spokeswoman for the diocese declined to provide additional details, in the interest of the victim’s privacy, but said that law enforcement is aware of the situation.

“I am deeply saddened to know that a priest is alleged to have committed such a grievous sin,” Fisher wrote, “and on behalf of the entire church, I offer my most heartfelt apology to the victim, the victim’s family and to everyone whose trust in the church has been violated.
“I cannot undo this terrible situation, but I can commit our diocese to telling the truth and seeking healing and reconciliation for anyone who has been harmed by Lisby.”

Fisher stressed that Lisby’s husband, who has filed for divorce, “remains a priest in good standing and a valuable leader of the diocese” and “is in no way implicated in any of these charges.”

Lisby is scheduled to be sentenced on June 25 and could face up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Fisher said the diocese is in the process of removing him from the priesthood.
