MORNING FOOD(Food for thought)



As a man was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.

He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away. “Well,” trainer said, “when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”

The man was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn’t, they were stuck right where they were.

Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before?

Failure is part of learning; we should never give up the struggle in life.


Moral of the story: No matter how much the world tries to hold you back, always continue with the belief that what you want to achieve is possible. Believing you can become successful is the most important step in actually achieving it.

He quickly wear on a fake smile as chief Mayo began to come down from the stairs.......

"Mr Carter..... "He said as he finally step down...

"Chief..... "Pious said with a wry smile...

"What a pleasant surprise... I wasn't expecting you..... "

"I sent you a note yesterday that i will be seeing you today, didn't you receive it... "

Chief Mayo shook his head..... "I never received it.... "He said and sat opposite him...

"I believe it must have fallen off on the way.... "he added

Pious swallowed...... "Your house is a ravishing statuesque..... "

Chief Mayo chulkled..... "Not as pulchritudinous as yours..... "

Both men giggled.....

For a moment they just kept quiet.... Then finally Pious broke the silence......... "So about the hotel, have you found out anything about what happened......?

"Poor woman.....! Pious whimpered with clenched teeth..... "I wonder why such things happen to good people....... I had plans with the chief to expand the hotel..... "

Chief Mayo suck his teeth.... "Well it seems non of that will be happening now..... "

A raw feeling enthusiasm engulf Pious.... He took a swig from the glass and drop it back on the table..... "So let's go to the reason why am here..... "

After a hectic day of washing all the cars in the compound.. Even the ones he wasn't told to wash.... Francis decided to take a rest..... He went to a corner.. A place he use to hide when he was a kid whenever he has wronged his brother Pious.....

He sat allowing the cool breeze of the afternoon send chills to his skin....
He bit his lips gazing into the quietness of the palace.....

He remenbers earlier when he was watching a car a maid he knows had walked up to him asking if he knew the late prince.... He was shocked dumbfounded on what to say but he knew the right thing.. He denied...... After a long glance the maid left him...

Though he was a bit glad that almost all the guards and maids he knew five years ago were no longer here in the palace... Maybe they have gone their own way to find greener pastures.....

He pick up a stone on the ground.. Threw it and catch it......
His mind wander back to Mogula... He remenber the princess.. He miss her.. Miss her so much.. That sometimes he wish he was still there.. Still in Mogula with her.....

He knew for a fact if she hadn't try to sacrifice herself.. He will still be there... Probably kissing her right now...

A raw sensation wreck him when he brood over their kiss... Her mouth in his..... The tender touch of her hands...... The intense kiss....

He shuddered when he saw a shadow in the beem of the sun in the floor..... Heart throbbing he raised his head... He quickly stood up as he saw the maid.. He recognized her.....

"My prince..... "Rachael muttered

He swallowed hard.. Hands clenching behind him..... "Am sorry am not the prince...."he said shapily...

Rachael stood looking at him.. It was him.. The same face.. It can't be a coincidence....... "You can't be here my prince....."She said with shaking mouth... A jarring feeling of awe sweeping through her.... Her head screaming at her that his life will be in danger if he stays.. The palace wasn't safe... Akpatu wasn't safe for him......... "You need to run... "she added

Questions began to swamped Francis head....does she know... Does she know the chiefs killed his parents... How did she know... But he couldn't ask her.. He has to stick to his story.. To his new identity.........

"Am sorry... My name is Octova.... Am not the prince. It's just a mere coincidence i look like him.... "

Racheal look around to make sure no one was coming then she turn her gaze to him....."You don't understand... You are not safe here...... "

"Please don't tell the king to fire me, i need this job.. My brother and i will starve if the king fire us.... "Francis said sepulchrally...

Rachael took a deep drag... His stubbornness will get him killed.... "My prince, you don't need to pretend, i know what happened......"

"I am not the prince...... "Francis yelled irritated.. His voice echoed on the walls.... He insufflate.. Sucking in all the air he can get.. Wallowing in his own outburst... But it's high time someone gives him some space.......

Shocked at his sudden reaction.. Rachael shift aback.... Then she saw someone... A shadow... Then the person poke his head out from the corner of the wall..........

"Am sorry.... "She muttered.... Then she left immediately....

Francis sat down back trying to catch his breath.....

"Why are you shouting.....?

Shocked... He turn his gaze to the direction of the voice... He sigh when he noticed it was Taka.....

Just then a guard came...

Both boys spun round...their pale face staring at the guard.......

"Get to work now...... "The guard raved.....

Both boys glance at each other..... "We are through with our work... "Taka replied...

"Then get to your room...... and stop constituting nuisance.... This is a palace not a playground........ "

Taka gave the guard a hard look... He watch him leave..... Then he shift his gaze back to Francis........ "What's wrong with you.....?

Step by step Carlos climbed down from the staircase..... Frown lines encroach on his forehead as he remembers his discussion with that stupid girl, even though the girl doesn't have any evidence... He still want to crush her for messing around with him.....

He finally got down from the stairs and crunched down on a chair.... One of his thug stood at the door.....

He pick up the remote and put on the TV....
He quickly check his time then he remenber he has a meeting with some members of the elite house in few hours......

He snort...... And turn his gaze to the door when the door flung open.....

A wry smile made it's way to his lips when he saw who was coming in......

"Isn't this a surprise........? He quickly ask standing up to meet him......

"If your business partner doesn't come to visit you, you as the good business man.. You just have to make the visit......"Pious said and they both giggled....

Pious sat beside him... His thug stood beside Carlos thug... Each not bothering to look at the other... They just fixed their gaze to one Direction..... Their boss..

"I was about going out...... "Carlos said

"Am glad i caught you before you left........."Pious said...

Carlos called for drinks which were served without hesitation......

"So Mr Carter... To what do i owe this surprised visit...... ?

Pious squeaked....a sly smile curve his chin....... "You remenber the business i told you about.....?

"The one we partner with you.....?

Pious gave him an askance look..... "Let's say i want to start doing something in this community... Something that will benefit us all...... "He snort and continue..... "The land is rich which is why i know it will yeild many returns back.... "

"Mmmm. Mm.... Am so intrigued...... "Carlos said as he took a deep swig of his wine.....

"And as my partner.. You will only give me the kind of help i need if you become the elite party chairman.... "

"Is that your way of pledging your support.....? Carlos ask with a scoff....

"It's my way of announcing the winner....... "

Carlos chulkled........ "Of course mr Carter am going to win......... But am curious... Why do you want to support me.....?

Pious gulp down a bit of his drink......"Do you know why the lion has a mane,why the tiger has stripes and the Leopard has a solid black spot on it's limb and head?

"Enlighten me..... "Carlos replied with a knitted brows...

"They have it so the rest of the animals in the jungle wouldn't cross.... To send a warning to them that they are king and rulers of the jungle........."He pause then continued.... "You see Carlos, i don't just bargain for antiques, i bargain for power.... Because power is wealth and with wealth you can get anything..... "

"Except immortality and death ..... "Carlos scurred....

Pious knit his brows.... "Perhaps except that......... "He lour his lips...... "With you as the chairman of the elite house, nothing is going to stop my plans for this kingdom......."

"Mr Carter... I think is time we give you a proper welcome to Akpatu...... Why don't you come to the palace tomorrow..... A feast will be throw in your honour....... "

"I will be delighted chief....... "he pick up his glass...... "Cheers to riches.... "
