finestboy1:.... There's no point for loyalty debate here but it pains me when Nigerians don't see or talk about anything good about their country and continue to compare a developing country to a developed country.why don't we focus on where we are and forget about where we are not. No Country is a paradise,I live in both worlds and i have visited every states or cities that matter in the US,I bet you they still have slums and developmental challenges in some areas,a country where both the young and adult have access to firearms and your safety is not guaranteed??.don't forget Puerto Rico is part of US territories and their living conditions is worse than that of nigeria, yet they didn't all moved to US mainland. If you have not been a subject of racial abuse or discrimations means you have not gone far.my rental Suv was snatched at gunpoint on a broad day light on the street of Houston Texas two years ago. If we contribute as much what we contribute to our adopted countries to our homeland,Nigeria would be better off. 8 Likes 1 Share |

With the rise in knowledge of online skills, the issue of migration will be greatly reduced. You can easily earn in dollars and spend in naira. You don't need to tie yourself in the office as you could easily become a digital nomad. One major issue of migration is earnings power. Most people migrate for better earning power but this can be curtailed by earning even in your small village what a new Yorker for example earns through serious sweat. I have a younger sister who is a lecturer in the UK thinking of moving back to Nigeria. She earns average £2500 after tax and will move to Nigeria if she earns 800k (£1600) monthly here according to her. The only con will be her children school standards if they are back in Nigeria. This post is saying some will prefer the west and others will prefer Nigeria. She has now noticed that as you grow older, the lure of the west fades off as her own siblings with less pay back home all have their houses, cars, properties, simpler way of living (less stringent work measures) and the comfort of a tropical weather. 6 Likes |

@OP, Say you travel to Japan or Saudi Arabia and you get arrested/kidnapped or whatever. As a dual citizen, which government do you think will likely come to your rescue when contacted? Nigeria or the U.S? ... For whatever it worth,i can not be in that position for whatever reason, because when you travel to other countries and run foul of the law,you will be arrested and prosecuted and jailed if found guilty irrespective of passport you are holding(Japan and Saudi Arabia inclusive),there are many Americans in foreign jails serving their terms and the one that readily comes to mind is that of Otto Warmbier who was jailed and later died in North Korea over trumped up charges and our almighty America couldn't do anything about it. Finally, if the U.S. and Nigeria came up with laws that prohibited dual citizenship and you're forced to choose either to be an American, or Nigerian, which citizenship would you give up? I'm curious, I really wanna know your answer... I doubt if that situation is foreseeable but you know what, both passports serve different purposes to me and if you must know, there are some countries i don't/cant travel to with my blue passport and vice versa like am planing to be in Russia 2018 world cup if Nigeria makes it to the second round on my Nigeria passport. Let me conclude by asking you my simple questions as well but be sincere if you must answer though,as simple as it may get,if Nigeria and united states happen to be playing against each other in a competition, who would you support?.. secondly, where do you intend to spend your retirement?..in Nigeria or remain in the US?.. Lastly,if a war should break out now, lets say a third world war, where will you be? i guess your answers are as good as mine. To others, nobody demands patriotism from anybody(besides, its not even the focus of this thread),but its suppose to be part of our culture naturally, that's what an average Americans do.there are countries not as good as Nigeria yet their citizens don't talk down on their countries.in my course of travelling around, what i see are products of people committed to make their countries great at all cost. .. P.S @op, lets focus more on the purpose for this thread so we can all make meaningful contributions.this shouldn't be about Nigeria. 10 Likes |

theamerican:.... i already answered your question(s)......if you are not satisfied, let me make it very simple.....i would gladly choose my country of birth over any other country, you know why i can be president tomorrow and besides that, nobody can take away my birthright citizenship from me but my citizenship acquired through naturalization can be a subject of revocation if serious offense is committed.that is my choice and i wont blink before making such pick. 6 Likes |

Nig4Greatness: I will ask more precisely. If the U.S. and Nigeria stopped dual citizenships and you had to denounce one of these two, which country would you denounce? A. Nigeria B. U.S.A As a Nigerian American, If you got stuck in a foreign land, which govt DO YOU THINK is more likely to come to your aid (I suppose, the first you'd try to reach out to) between the U.S and Nigeria? A. Nigeria B. U.S.A C. None See? Simple. Just answer and we're good. Just to add, when I argue with people... I learn from them. From what you wrote, I figured in the case of going to Russia, it COULD be easier going there during this coming world-cup as a Nigerian citizen. So, don't think my disagreements are attacks, I enjoy learning from people I disagree with. I welcome completely differing opinions. I learn everyday. 18 Likes |

theamerican:.... If you got stuck in a foreign land......this is relative, getting stuck could mean different thing but i expect both countries or none of the countries (depending on the situation) to come forward.that's the best answer to give you since i haven't been in that situation before. 2 Likes |

Nig4Greatness: Been a silent reader for sometime now. but sorry, Nigeria has never been a second world country& will never be in our generation, truthfully. Dictionary..com - The world’s favorite online dictionary! defines third world as the underdeveloped nations of the world, especially those with widespread poverty. Nigeria qualifies It is underdeveloped - very few working services, poor or nil infrastructure, rule of law is still a theoretical concept> Poverty widespread? Yes 18 Likes 3 Shares |

Nig4Greatness: "People I disagree with" is not "people who disagree with me". Again, I have enjoyed our discussions. I only know about Nigeria and the U.S. as these are the only two places I have lived, that's why I Personally focus on these two countries. I can't speak on how a Ghanaian or Mexican would feel about going to the U.S or Canada for example. Or how a Nigerian would fare in the UK or Germany, South Africa or UAE. People in those countries have been talking about them and if you notice, I've not said anything. I simply read from them and say what I know... or think I know. Again, I apologize if the thread topic raised your expectations on what it should contain, or what should be written. I didn't even know it would get so much attention. I'll write more in my free time. Have a good life, too. I hope you had full coverage when your SUV was stolen. Things like that aren't pleasant. God bless you. 16 Likes |

Nig4Greatness: Wow sir...please allow me to ask a question. You mean you have visited the most popular or largest metropolitan cites and states in the U.S.? Really? Hmmm...very interesting. All states matter in the U.S. though....(they all have something positive to contribute to the entire nation). I really am wondering though.... Why have Nigerians not bought into what you just wrote? When will Nigeria be great and how long is it really gonna take? 2 Likes |

Mobilia:..... There are some states that are just parasites that contribute virtually nothing except for taxes paid by citizens living in those states.3 states of California, New York and Texas contribute 45% of the entire nation GDP.and funny enough these states have very large population of immigrants whereas those claiming "son of the soil" contribute virtually nothing. Make no mistake about it,US is highly developed and without doubt the greatest and richest nation in the world but they built it.the country didn't just fall from heaven, look at China, turning their dense population into an asset, that's the point and I hope with little commitment and change in orientation,we can do it as well.it may take time but surely we will get there. 12 Likes |

Nig4Greatness:80% of our youth are migrating to another country for survival. Alot of people in Nigeria are doing fast and prayers for visa. My prayers this year is to secure my student visa to UK or Germany. You have achieved what you want to achieve in USA before coming back to so called your country Nigeria. If I achieve the same thing you achieved I will come back. I am very sure you will not encourage your children to school here. You will love them to go back to USA to enjoy free education, free health care, etc Please free us don't discourage people here. Thank you. 20 Likes 1 Share |
