Rather their priority is how to be on the same salary scale as doctors. undecided Abeg anyone that need that should quietly go & take up the MBBS degree. What nonsense! angry
U didn't read the piece at all, JOHESU is does not want to be on the same salary scale with doctors, they are negotiating for relativity.

Call for sack of health minister, walk out of negotiations

Paul Obi in Abuja

The Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) thursday called on health workers in Lagos, Kano and Yobe States to relax the ongoing indefinite strike in their domain following the cooperation of the governors from the above states.

The move to relax the strike in Lagos, Kano and Yobe States was as a fallout of the positive responses from the state governments in addressing several demands made by JOHESU.

Speaking with journalists last night, JOHESU Chairman, Biobelemoye Josiah, explained: “It is paramount we seize this discourse to specially convey deep appreciation to state governments which have gone ahead to meet the various clamours and terms of settlement in agreements with government. This include Yobe and Lagos State which have now adjusted the CONHESS scale as demanded.

“We specially commend the Lagos State Government for approving the consultancy cadre for pharmacists in its employment. Just like the Niger State Government did with pharmacists since 2012.

“The JOHESU also expresses gratitude to the Kano State Government for ensuring good welfare package for its healthcare workforce in addition to the intervention of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje to ameliorate the on-going strike. We urge our members in Lagos, Yobe and Kano State to tactically relax the strike to accommodate emergency services in those states as a measure of goodwill.

“JOHESU wishes to declare once again that the crux of our clamour has always been restoration of the relativity in the CONHESS and CONMESS scale which was deliberately distorted with active government collaboration in 2014. We remain steadfast that in alignment with democratic norms and the rule of law, this desire remains very legitimate.”

They also took a swipe at the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, demanding that the federal government terminate his appointment as a minister.

They stated that “the Federal Ministry of Health as presently led by Prof. Isaac Adewole has constituted itself as a major hindrance to fruitful deliberation as he has never disguised his intention to symbolise the propaganda machine of the NMA through his posturing at all our meetings, which necessitated JOHESU to take a position that the negotiations were structured to fail ab-initio.

“Prof. Adewole is on record to have insisted that the wage structure in the health sector must reckon with what was obtainable in the 1991 late Prof. Olukoye Ransome – Kuti’s dual salary system (MSS and HSS) which marked the beginning of persistent acrimony until it was corrected through the Harmonised Tertiary.

“The duo of the Ministers of Labour and Health who are both members of the NMA have taken a position that parity must entail a basic salary differential in the emolument of health professionals and their doctor colleagues.

“On May 15, 2018, JOHESU came up with a comprehensive presentation to graphically showcase the realities of the various salary scales in the health sector from 1977 till date.

“Even when the reality on ground shows that a fresh doctor presently enters the public service on CONMESS 3 which is the equivalent of GL 12 with a take home monthly package ofN313,000,00 per month, the closest in line who are health professionals enter public service on CONHESS 9 which is the equivalent of GL 10 with a package of N161,670.00 with a proposal to have an adjustment that takes him to a total emolument ofN190,000.00, the two ministers who are members of NMA have taken positions that these health professionals seek parity with doctors. In mathematical terms this is a significant 61 per cent differential.”

Josiah who was accompanied by JOHESU Secretary, Ekpebor Florence, stressed that should President Muhaamadu Buhari fail to remove Prof. Adewole from office, the minister, they argued would remained “a major threat to public health especially at a time that the dreaded Ebola disease is currently rampaging in some African countries.

“The federal government must energise the deadlocked negotiations between the JOHESU and Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment with genuine conciliators who have national interest.

Specifically, a befitting budget to offset the already compromised three options presented by JOHESU to the federal government on May 16, 2018, must be made available through interventions facilitated by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF),” they maintained.

How much is a house officer entitled to monthly in public service let alone a junior registrar?

In this dispute it is very clear that doctors are the reason there have been so much unrest in the health sector. This is so because FOOLISHLY successive governments in Nigeria have been hoodwinked BY DOCTORS into believing that only doctors can be minister of health and CMD of hospitals. One doctor in one thread boasted FOOLISHLY as ALWAYS that they have the knife and the yam. Well, Niherians are now clearly seeimg why things have not been working well for many years.
To you my reader, if you are not a medical doctor, know, as found with many of their posts, whatever profession you practice today, it is simply because you are too academically dull that you are not a doctor.. According to them only doctors are intelligent people, the rest of the populace are bofoons

You've confirmed your IQ with this statement of yours. Good luck

At no point would a doctor not recognise the role of the nurses but out of envy of some sort the nurses are wired to hate doctors. You claimed those hospitals are on lock because there were no nurses on ground but you didn't tell people that the gatemen in the hospital are part of your johesu and would make sure all the doors are locked, even that of the consulting rooms. So tell me how do you expect consultation to take place, or you expect doctors to consult under the tree. Is it not the same set of johesu particularly the nurses who would hide hospital equipments so has to make their strike effective? The hospital needs the nurses to function quite alright, but try not locking ward necessities and let's see if what is happening in OAUTHC won't happen where patients relatives take over the nursing care on the ward so far they are taught. Though not the best but it has been effective so far. Even the neonatal ward is running with children on the ward, the house officer currently work with the mothers, the most important thing the nurses do their is to feed while IV medication that most are on is being given by the doctor. So tell me if the hospital is not running howbeit not maximally.
The nurses are the one losing in this fight. All other health professional in JOHESU enters with grade 8 but your graduate nurses still enter with grade 7 and you people are not talking about that. Johesu(Lab scientists) people are just using the nurses and they will continue to do that until you people wise up.

Good evening to all distinguished members of JOHESU. I really salute our collective doggedness and resilience to nib injustice, suppression, and subjugation meted on us by FMOH and would on behalf of the national/local exco commend your cooperation and compliance to our several directives, don't relent in this pls. Our attention have been drawn to speculations of court order or no court order, for now I want to advice the house to disregard such rumour, cos it is one of the gimmicks of FMOH to cow us back to work. You would recall, that they have tried several measures but our unchanging position is a big threat to them,so pls be calm,no one should be above the law,if the FMOH would not obey Court order we should be punished if we obey hence THE STRIKE CONTINUES as we await further directives from our national leaders so pls REMAIN AT HOME. I also want to use thus medium to congratulate the muslim faithful on the commencement of the Ramadan fasting, may God grant you the strength and good health to go start and finish it successfully and may all your prayers be answered.
But pls pray hard for the health sector/JOHESU .

Their lies are so shameful.
The matter is very simple. If government gives in to their demands and relativity is distorted, goverment just has to increase drs overall take home pay or hospitals are shut down again, then JOHESU can go ahead and be seeing patients, prescribing, carrying out procedures, surgeries and follow ups.Its a straightforward matter
if not for the division of labour what you said they should do is nothing but for surgeries. everything that concerns internal medicine and other investigations can be done smoothly by pharmacists. There are so many things a pharm is trained to do but couldn't cos of job description and you know that too.
I dear the government to open consulting rooms for pharmacist's should the NMA go on strike. Only then will the government, policy makers and the public get to know they've been hoodwinked by the NMA all the while. With the proliferation of private medical laboratories, radiodiagnostic/scanning labs the NMAs aggression is been checked at the door. The health field is one that is evolving continously and the NMA should accept the bitter fact that the dispensers of yesterday are today's clinicians. Already, governments and policy makers are been lobbied to expand the scope of pharmacy practice as we're ever ready to assume more roles and responsibilities...This is becoming the norm already across the globe before someone will come to preach international best practices. Across the world and even in the Asian subcontinent health care is all about collaboration and team work with the dr leading the clinical team not the administrative head of the hospitals unlike what we have here. anyone with the requisite knowledge, skills and ability can lead the hospital not necessarily drs or health workers...This i think is the reason for their success in health care.

When the time comes and ur pple remain foolishly adamant, all striking workers will be sacked and made to return hospital property such as the pharmacy and lab keys they took. Those that fail to do this will be charged to court and prosecuted. The government will then advertise for their vacancies, you'll be surprised at how fast they'll be replaced.

if u like, kill yourself. I dare johesu to leave the hospital pharmacy. Everything our hospital pharmacists do can be done by an SSCE holder, infact, anyone who can read and write. Doctor writes prescription, u read it and bring it off the shelf, finish. You people know that if the pharmacist is left open, your strike will be ineffective, same with lab scientists who lock that labs and nurses who hide hospital equipment, sometime hospital security even lock consulting rooms. Without all these, johesu strike will be ineffective, no-one will even notice their absence.

Your mates in abroad are manufacturing drugs and doing groundbreaking research, you are here dragging salary with doctors and dispensing drugs made by your mates in China and India. And don't come with that lie of mentioning Nigerian pharmaceuticals, what they do is market drugs produced abroad, more than 95% of our drugs are imported, the remaining 5% have majority of their ingredients imported. It's a pity. Nigerian pharmacists ought to be ashamed of themselves.

I have many med doctor friends who are earning #50k per month in private hospitals and are seriously begging to be employed by government. Many med doctor consultants are in private hospitals too and earning peanuts.

if only you can count the number of medical schools in Nigeria in comparison with pharmacy, nursing and med lab schools...from there you'll get the correct statistics...a pharmacist's killing himself for government hospital job is really funny. many pxcists have left or refuse to pick up hospital jobs that i know so I don't know what you are saying.
that all a pharmacists does in the hospital is dispensing is laughable..could that be the reason you frown when you see students pxcists coming for their ward rounds? NMA hasn't seen anything yet...The heat you're receiving from hospital pharmacists now with be nothing compared to what the younger, energetic and full blooded clinical pharmacists will be putting on you in the nearest future if you don't get ur ways right b4 then.

if u like, kill yourself.

Nigerian pharmacists ought to be ashamed of themselves.
what an irony.
is it not your mates Buhari and et al are running to abroad? Your mates are carrying out ground breaking surgeries using cutting edge technology in the UK, USA, Europe,Canada and Ghana you're not ashamed staying here dragging the treatment of chronic illnesses, infectious dxs, internal medicine, and primarily care with me. There's nothing basically a Nigerian dr can do that a pharmacist cannot do outside surgical procedures.
