Concerning the inaction of the politicians from the SE in general, and Anambra in particular, i'm on the same page with you.....they're all fuc'king useless! smiley
I partly agree because I don't hear or see any effort to liberate their zone. However, I strongly believe the FG is playing politics with this and want to ensure Lagos holds monopoly for goods entry into the country. Sad.

The politics of our imports and water ways are beyond measure.
Prof okonjo saw a bit of it in the wharfs.
If it happens Lagos will to a great extent loose their IGR.
Up till now, all other sea ports in the SE and SS are none functional

The issue on this Onitsha sea port is not only the fault of the ministry of transportation but also the lack of unity within the southeast as well as its businessmen. I strongly believe that the southeast are the ones doing themselves more harm than good. Some will come here and be blaming a Yoruba man or Hausa man for his zone's failure to move forward.

Saying that shippers are not patronizing the port is pure false and blackmail to discredit the new port, Southeastern shippers has been begging FG to gazette Onitsha port and make it final destination for containers, FG should grant their requests.

ANAMBRA State Shippers’ Association, has appealed to the Federal Government to gazette and make the Onitsha River Port functional.
The President of the association, Mr Emma Akpaka, who spoke in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Enugu, said if the port is put to use would boost the economy of the country.
Akpaka stressed that the port if put to maximum use, could sustain the country’s economy, especially with its proximity to the Onitsha Main Market.
NAN recalls that Onitsha River Port was inaugurated by former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2012, after its reconstruction.
Akpaka said that “to abandon it for over six years after its completion and inauguration is the invitation to self-inflicted hardship’’.

[b]According to him, the people’s expectations for takeoff of economic activities in the port have been `deferred’ for too long.
Shippers in the South-East are begging President Muhammadu Buhari to gazette this port into the global shipping map so that customs and relevant agencies will immediately enforce economic activities.
port,
“Apart from revenues and jobs creation, there would be the massive development of inland waterways of host communities as well.

no need to read again, the news is false. They are just looking for useless excuses to ensure that the port remains nonfunctional.

They are the culprits. Sadly, this is the typical lazy and non nonchalant attitude of the elected officials from that region an even the governors losing out on the potential IGR from that facility.

They elect and pay them to look out for their people's interest at the national level, but they went to Abuja to do bystander like mumu.

Moronic, misguided, clueless response from someone like you, who ought to know better. So Amaechi is no longer the Minister of Transport, and the Onitsha port no longer falls under his ministry, or Onitsha port is no longer under the purview of parastatals that report to his ministry, not so?
