Deji of Akure’s estranged wife’s health worsens From Tunde Raheem, Akure Wednesday, June 2, 2010 Barely 48 hours after the estranged wife of the Deji of Akure, Oba Oluwadare Adesina was bathed with a strange substance by the monarch; her state of health has deteriorated. The wife, Bolanle Adesina who was groaning in pains on Monday, Daily Sun gathered, had been moved from the state Specialist Hospital, Akure to the Federal Medical Centre Owo. http://odili.net/news/source/2010/jun/2/500.html The decision to move Olori Bolanle to the Federal Medical Centre was taken by her family members who were unhappy with her state of health. Daily Sun gathered that the body of Olori Bolanle, a mother of two has continued to peel, which forced her family members to request for her transfer. The estranged wife of the Akure king had earlier told our correspondent that she would challenge the monarch’s unruly behaviour at the law court. Olori Bolanle who spoke in a telephone interview, said: “I am not going to treat the matter with levity because he infringed on my human rights. He ordered me out of his house eight months ago and he came to assault me in my private residence. “If not for the police that rescued me from him, what would we have been saying, maybe I would be dead by now. My family and I have resolved to take the matter to court.” Meanwhile, prominent indigenes of Akure have continued to react to the King’s unruly behaviour in the public. The former leader of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Kunle Agunbiade described the behaviour of Oba Adesina as repulsive and uncalled for. Mr. Agunbiade said, “the Action of Oba Adesina is not only an embarrassment to himself but the entire Akure people who are noted for hospitality and good conduct.” |

Obviously he poured some sort of acid on her. Is there not a way to stop the reaction or it just has to burn itself out? I hope she comes out of this okay. |
Re: Wife-Beating Oba Vs Kingmakers, Human Rights Groups by Remii(m): 7:16am On Jun 04, 2010 |
^^^^^ they said he poured hot ashes on the woman a symbol of inflicting someone with leprosy in Akure tradition. That in itself is a criminal act, like acid attack. The king should be arrested and prosecuted as required. Kings have have demoted, banished, arrested even jailed in Nigeria this should not be exception. |

Hopefully this scallywag would be the first Royal father to be locked-up, those lags behind bars would be opportune to give him a proper coronation and baptism of fire on his arrival at Kirikiri. His bungling tatics in discipline an unruly Olori would be his crime and his own undoing, other sedent Royals would go about such enforcement by using well known hooligans in their communities without any trace OR recourse to the Royal Fathers. But this uninitiated thug thought he was street-wise enough to know the rough and tumble of rascality, only to belittle himself and his Crown by falling into a gutter, what a sight that would be. |

Outstrip: I doubt Nigerian hospitals have the technology to cease the chain reaction of acid. Oba should at least pay for her medical trip to UK or US. |

Afenifere leader will say that cos its probably the kind of thing he can do or he doesn't want to castigate the monarch knowing fully well that the saying goes that Oba ba lori owun gbogbo meaning king reigns over everything, and nothing will come out of the report of his dis picable act. |

The kingmakers may come out with another abracadabra, because this is Africa where everything is tradition, and the kingmakers have to consult the oracle for the way forward. My expectation from the oracle; THE KING MUST DANCE NAKED. That would pacify the gods of the land. |

tpia.: My dear, I am perplexed you arduously referred the issue that involved a first class Oba in Yoruba culture and tradition as “virtually non-existent occasion”. Well, you once wrote that Yoruba land did not go through me while I domiciled in the land of richly culture and tradition. This is another pointer to a well known self–indictment. I shall remain oppose to people who tempted to portray the history of Protectorate and Nigeria through the lights of ethnic prism. There are cultures and traditions that have witnessed worse than wife-beating by a royalty. |

Wife-beating and husband-beating are very common among commoners in Nigeria. I guess it is rare among royalties due to certain cultural and traditional protocols that guide them. Some folks are reacting in a manner similar to weird, hypocritical, counter-cultural, trivial, idiotic, immoral and anti-African behavior of present-day Europeans and Americans of USA. |

[quote Scrap traditional rulers or watever disguise they may manifest. It is stupidity that allows governors, local govt chairman/woman, judges, lawyers, police, and then this lazy and egostic people to have the same jobs; It creates accountability problems. Traditional chiefs in nigeria are way way too much. Some are real and many are not. In order to settle this, the whole traditional kini should be scrapped entirely and a day in a year should be decleared national traditional day eventhough every village has an important affair once a year atleast. Equality should be the driving force in scrapping this craps which can stop craps like this from occuring.

This is my take on the issue too. We have too many repeated institutions all doing nothing. We have no need of Obas in this age and tyme. They have become OBSOLETTE |

Aloy+Emeka: You have been on reckless pursuit of mirage based on one side of the story. If you are really matured human being, you will fathom that this piece of accusation is very common and real in such a saga that involves Deji of Akure and Olori Balanle. |

“Removing an Alaafin of Oyo Chief among the responsibilities of the Bashorun was the all important festival of Orun. This religious divination, held every year, was to determine if the members of the Mesi still held favor with the Alafin. If the council decided on the disapproval of the Alafin, the Bashorun presented the Alafin with an empty calabash, or parrot's egg as a sign that he must commit suicide. This was the only way to remove the Alafin because he could not be legally desposed. Once given the parrot's egg, the Bashorun would proclaim, "the gods reject you, the people reject you, the earth rejects you." The Alafin, his eldest son, and the Samu, his personal counselor and a member of the Oyo Mesi all had to commit suicide in order to renew the government all together. The process and suicide ceremony took place during the Orun festival.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oyo_Empire |
