FestacGirl:Good analysis. Thank you for letting us know your user experience with Toyota. What brand or brands of cars do you think is/are more durable and suited for our roads especially during the rainy season? Also, could you be kind enough to gift me your 2007 camry if you are not using it at the moment?. I need a car badly for mobility at the moment. Thank you. 3 Likes |

no doubt, Toyota's are great cars but the truth remains that they are extremely overrated. I have Toyotas and other brands so I'm not guessing. 1 Like |

Following the service guide and ensuring a car with a bad history is well maintained may be frustrating. I have learned after having used a Ford Taurus 03 to do the following things. 1) Check carcomplaints. com before considering the option of getting a car. You will be glad you did simply because the issues related to the car of your choice will be laid bare. 2) After I am sure that the make, model & the year of the car are okay, I can now proceed to VIN check. Most of us will be amazed that thousands of cars with bad history are shipped daily. 3)Join the forum of the car you are using. Their is an online forum for your car (car make, year and model), join it. 4) Get a good car diagnosis scanner. I use a cheap one (Ms 409) 5) Get a reliable mechanic. 6) Consult those that are more knowledgeable on the field. I listen to Automedics on traffic radio and I also ask questions. 6 Likes

bobbiiee: You have a very reliable scheme here. Stick to this and you will continue to be satisfied with your vehicle purchase choices. We usually recommend the following: 1. Detailed Vehicle research, like you mentioned. carcomplaints.com is quite reliable. We also recommend edmunds.com, and for general pricing information, KBB 2. After making the decision to purchase a specific model and year, whether one would be importing the vehicle or venturing into the auto markets, the next step should always be a V I N check, or vehicle history report. Get the VIN, and if you don't have direct access to AutoCheck or CarFax reports, contact any history platform. For a minor fee we provide that service. This will save you a lot of trouble. Sometimes vehicle salesmen may insist that you be physically present in order to access the V I N. This is often a ploy to persuade you to assess the vehicle merely based on its current glossy and shiny new condition, and forget about the history check. 3. Closely related to the VIN check is physical inspection by a trained and trusted professional. This is paramount. Think of it this way: The history check examines the past condition. The physical inspection examines the present condition. Maintenance will largely determine the future condition. This order is very important. Getting a history check before inspection even makes the inspection more efficient, in many cases the report indicates the specific area of the damage. When we provide a premium report with vehicle pictures showing the damaged areas, the inspection can then focus primarily on these areas, but also the condition of the entire vehicle. www.nairaland.com/attachments/7449002_screenshot20180722075849chrome_jpeg1894e0fccc7c848a3ccaec2fa6d3f8ac Above is an infographic about reliability of vehicle manufacturers in the USA. Note the top two mentioned. Both are Toyota 4 Likes 5 Shares |

Toyota like most Japanese cars sacrifice performance and safety for economics. I simply stick to German cars. Most of those charts and ratings are paid for, ive had accident in a Japanese car before, that was when I discovered in cases of car write offs, you can buy full body at owode, then I noticed only few of the 100s accidented are German. 4 Likes |

Buying tokunbo cars its better you go with a mechanic that will check the car properly . Or better still just buy a new one that you will enjoy on the long run . |

FestacGirl: lol well compared to other brands you will be better off with Toyota. Almost all mechanics can fix it and the parts though mostly fake are cheap and readily available. don't even get me started on Toyota resale value in Nigeria lol it's good n buyers will fight to buy it from u even if it's 1994 Camry or corolla. The only thing with Toyota is that they have weak suspension components. Nigerians love Toyota sooo much that they can even make excuses for its problems and spend their last money to fix it BC they have been told by other users it is the Best. if it is any other brands like Honda or Nissan that gives little issue they will call it devil and sell at give away n yet will struggle to see buyer. it's annoying when u see ppl want to sell their 2004 corolla they have used for 7 years for as high as 1.7m all BC of Toyota hype 17 Likes |

Its imperative to do a research on a vehicle before purchase. On a par the toyota isnt as great as some other brands irrespective of the model class comparisons. "People fear what they do not understand". A well known phrase. Hence Toyota's popularity in our region over other brands. Lets not forget the "my neighbour get am " mentality i must get am too . (band wagon) For users in our climes who pay as much for a used / salvage vehicle invarably proportional to its MSRP , peace of mind, spare availabilty and procurement, technician availabilty tops scale of preference when choice of vehicle is put into note. Maintenance culture also comes into play, some vehicle brands wont tolerate a 10% of abuse you melt out to a toyota brand . At using a toyota brand in our clime its a win win situation you get a boring drive, poor aesthetic , cheap knock off parts and good resale value. A naija used 10 camry you get an offer of 2-2.3M A naija used 11 infiniti m37 you have to beg to get it sold at 2M. Mind you the infiniti is on a total league of its own. In my own opinion toyotas cousin (honda) is a better all rounder. 5 Likes |
