MSGAMBLE9:
The US are always slow starters, the last time we played the we led until the final 5mins.... their overall quality always seems to come to bear.

Just like Nigeria. We are slow starters, hence my initial concern about today's game.

Crazy that the US got their first 3pt in the 3rd quarter. They have a backcourt of prolific 3pt shooters (DT, Sabrina, Jewell, Plum, Jackie etc.) They were lucky as Belgium deserves the win, but qualify always shows itself.

The difference between both slow starters is that we (NG) tend to sit out some quarters like we don't care e.g. our last match vs US, the 1th quarter we won by 22-11 only to sleep through 2nd quarter and wake again in 3rd only to sleep through the last 5 mins of the 4th...

The concentration level for NG always ebbs and flow buh the Americans just loves beastmode rallying it's almost their itinerary.

You’re spot on!
If the U.S. has a bad 1st quarter, that is it. They will come at you in the remaining 3 quarters as though you stole their property 🤣

Tid bits..

- D’Tigress would qualify for back to back Olympic tournaments for the first time ever.

- A female coach would have qualified the team to the Olympics for the first time…

- Moreover, since October 2, 2015 D’Tigress have won ALL competitive games against African opposition 🤯

My performers for today's game.
1) Amy Okonkwo
2) Promise Amukamara.
3)Sarah Ogoke/Lauren Ebo/ Ejiofor/ Musa.
Pallas did not play too well today, maybe because she got into foul trouble early. Tomi Taiwo was missing, this I think had to do with her not having the opportunity to set her feet before the ball gets to her. The Sengalese watched her at the Afrobasket and knew how to make her less effective, she has to set her feet, otherwise, she might not take the shot. Did not see much from Nicole as she did not play much. Elizabeth Balogun was not bad.

.....Just realized Cardoso of South Carolina WBB is playing for her national team(Brazil) at this OQT,that means if invitation was sent to Kiki she would have honoured it..

First Quarter

Nigeria 13

USA 19

Nigeria struggling again with making shots. Shooting 29% from 2pts and 50% FT

Sloppy a few times in defence to allow the USA make easy layups and rebounds but defence a lot better than yesterday.
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread - D’Tigress At The 2024 Olympics by lovewins: 6:48pm On Feb 09
Biko why is Rena not calling a timeout? Is it until they get a 50 point lead?

the defense wasn't that bad yesterday except when the whole team went to sleep in 2nd...Dillard and Diop almost ruined them...

I hope we don't have 2nd meltdown today....

Promise making all the wrong plays.

Terrible shots selections

Amy who is the best shooter on the team hardly taking a shot.

Coach allowing USA the momentum by not calling timeouts.

This summaries the 2nd quarter.

First half

Nigeria 21
USA 50

US with a 31 point lead.

NBBF thinks they do not need the old players any more .Well,well....Our players finding it hard to get to their spots and making all the wrong reads and passes. Not crashing the boards, not hustling on defence against the number 1 basketball nation in the world.

The last team took USA to the wire. We had something to build on. Sadly NBBF happened.

we have always been having terrible 2nd since... remember how we almost lost the afrobasket semi and final for slacking through 2nd....

It's a theme with our Ladies...I can't remember the last time we ever had a good 2nd...

Okoro should don't be making the Olympics. Brings nothing to the team in my opinion.

Tomi Taiwo and Nicole should also not be making the Olympics.

Nicole has particularly been selfish

She has been atrocious both games she played. She's amongst the worst shooters in the team and brings nothing on defence.

...lol...your NBBF and coach did not call Ezinne, but carried Okoro and Taiwo. Okoro is okay, however, she is not ready for the world stage yet, I knew Taiwo was also going to struggle shooting because if she does not have her feet set,it will be hard for her to pull the trigger. Unfortunately for her,the speed at which the game is played at the world stage is alot faster that Afrobasket, also there is no true point guard to create those shots for her. Ogoke,Promise,Taiwo, Elizabeth are all shooting guards o..basically,only Okoro is a point guard, however, NBBF still did not call Ezinne. If we do not reinforce,we will just be going for jamboree.

... Absolutely, even Ejiofor is clumsy. Alot of the ladies on the squad just walked in and picked jersey due to NBBF pressing self destruct button.
