FATHERHOOD IS MORE THAN GETTING A WOMAN PREGNANT

A hard look at the world today reveals a distortion in the divine order for the family. Understanding the strategic position of the family in building communities and nations, the devil is working overtime to enslave men, targeting the family. His success is becoming increasingly evident — the grim facts are seen, reported, and heard about daily, and involve the collapse of many family units. With the decay of the family, we see the terrible effects on our society — increased crime, behavioural disorders, poverty, drug abuse, and the like.

What then is the way out of this mess that has overcome this generation? Fatherhood.

Fatherhood is more than getting a woman pregnant, or having a mountain size ego; it is a dignified position as the anchor of the family link. Asides the responsibility of providing strength and support to the family, like the anchor to a ship, the father holds the family together in storms and moral degeneration that characterize the century. The father is strength and support to his home, and most importantly, the custodian of the family values and honour for generations after him.

HECTOR AND ACHILLES: TWO PATHS TO MANLINESS
For the Ancient Greeks, Homer’s Iliad was the Bible on andreia — that is, manliness, particularly manly courage.

Alexander the Great was said to have kept a special edition of the epic poem (prepared by his tutor Aristotle) under his pillow during his conquests and he’d read from it often. For Alexander, Achilles was andreia incarnate, and so the young king patterned his life after him. When he began his conquest of Asia, Alexander made a detour to pay homage to Achilles’ tomb. Whenever he experienced bouts of self-doubt, he’d pray to Achilles’ goddess mother, Thetis, for comfort. When his best friend and general, Hephaestion, was killed in battle, Alexander mourned deeply, just as Achilles had grieved for his best friend, Patroclus.

5 STEPS YOU CAN TAKE TO LIVE BY DESIGN, NOT DEFAULT
o you ever find yourself just going through the motions, as though on autopilot? If so, you’re not alone.

In a recent study of 3,000 people, 96 percent reported living on autopilot. The researchers concluded that as our lives have become more frantic and the needle has moved ever more toward the “overwhelm,” autopilot has become our default mode. It’s led to an epidemic of subconscious decision-making, with the average person making 15 “mindless” decisions every day. This adds up 250,000 autopilot decisions over a lifetime.

Of course, many of these unconscious decisions and behaviours actually spare our overloaded brains of unnecessary work—like your morning hygiene ritual or daily route to work. However, left unchecked, operating constantly in “default mode” can exact a steep toll on your sense of well-being, your relationships, your career, your productivity and even your bank balance. (Nearly 50 percent of people in the study reported forgetting important things while on autopilot, like birthdays, paying bills and collecting their kids from activities.)

8 WAYS TO CREATE MOMENTUM IN YOUR LIFE
Celebrate the causes that propel you, the need to get started immediately, and the continued path toward a life you’ll love.
1. Set powerful goals.

The most important benefit of setting goals isn’t achieving your goal; it’s what you do and the person you become in order to achieve your goal that’s the real benefit.

Goal setting is powerful because it provides focus. It shapes our dreams. It gives us the ability to hone in on the exact actions we need to perform to achieve everything we desire in life. Goals are great because they cause us to stretch and grow in ways that we never have before. In order to reach our goals, we must become better.

WHY LEADERS NEED TO MAKE TIME FOR SELF-CARE
We typically praise the person who is the last to leave the office and who works during weekends and holidays. Often, however, that person is the first to fall in the war of workplace attrition.

Leadership demands long hours and great effort, but rest and relaxation are just as essential as hard work. Go-getters often feel that every minute of every day must be filled with work, but that is just not a healthy way to live. Because more does not always mean better, a leader must learn to draw a hard line in the sand when asked to take on boundless responsibilities. Learning to say “no” is a matter of self-preservation.

Leaders must take time for themselves, and they should not apologize or feel guilty for doing so. We are sons, daughters, mothers and fathers before we are professionals, and it is important not to neglect the parts of our lives that make us the most human.
