Femi Asu with agency report

HSBC and UBS closed their offices in Nigeria. The Central Bank of Nigeria said this in a report on Friday as it revealed foreign investment had fallen sharply from a year ago.

The CBN said foreign direct investment in Nigeria fell to N 379 . 84bn ( $ 1 . 2 bn ) in the first half of the year from N 532 . 63bn ($ 1.7 bn) a year earlier.

It did not give reasons for the banks ’ closure.

The central bank said the outlook for the Nigerian economy in the second half was “ optimistic ” given higher oil prices and production but rising foreign debts and uncertainty surrounding the 2019 presidential election were drawbacks, according to Reuters.

Investor confidence in the country has been shaken since the central bank in August ordered MTN to bring back $ 8 . 1 bn to the country, part of the profits the South African telecoms firm sent abroad.

A HSBC research note dated July 18 said a second President Muhammadu Buhari term “ raises the risk of limited economic progress and further fiscal deterioration , prolonging the stagnation of his first term , particularly if there is no move towards completing reform of the exchange rate system or fiscal adjustments that diversify government revenues away from oil. ”

The CBN also said three lenders failed to meet its minimum liquidity ratio of 30 per cent, without naming them.

It added that non - performing loans had dropped to 12. 4 per cent as of June 2018 from 15 per cent a year ago, still a long way above its five per cent threshold.

“ To further consolidate on the improvement , the Central Bank of Nigeria directed banks to intensify efforts at debt recovery , realisation of collateral for lost facilities and strengthening their risk management processes, ” it said in the report.

Two International Financial institutions have just recently temporarily shut down operations in Nigeria. Prominent of which is the HSBC which had earlier warned in their country assessment that Nigeria risk delving further into economic recession with no hope of recovery if Buhari secures a second term.

Buhari having succeeded in getting WAEC to issue him an obvious fake WASC has sent a clear message ahead of the 2019 presidential ejections that he will do all it takes to secure for himself a return to office and with that we can easily predict that Buhari will never accept a defeat at the polls.

With all these warnings in place, it is obviously very glaring that the naira will be the first casualty to suffer as investors will bid a very hasty retreat from our shores and the likelihood of international sanctions to be unveiled is most certain.

My candid advice to all of you is to begin in earnest to dump the soon to be extremely worthless Naira , we are talking Zimbabwe and Venezuela 10.0 scenario.

If you wish not to fall victim of Buhari's mad ambition then I suggest you put in place a financial cushion by dumping the naira.

I will steer clear of the Euro as the latest data from the ECB isn't looking so good coupled with the Italian fiasco with Brussels over debt recovery.

Dump the Naira now!

Who wouldn’t close shop in a shithole Nigeria headed by an uneducated umpire like the dullard.

If you’re in support of this corrupt and nepotistic administration, it means yourself and your future generations have been shortchanged.

Be wise.

PS: Fvck both APC and PDP

Thanks to the dullard and his regressive government.

The quote a above is the reason any reasonable Nigeria who wish to see Nigeria grow should join hands to retire the dullard to his gay cows.

I don't insult but this gonna be an exception!
You are such an ignorant and foolish man.

The two biggest bank in the world(HSBC & UBS) closed down their operations in a country and you attribute it your dullard's fight against corruption as against our dwindling economy.
Clap for yourself slowpoke!

This simply means Nigeria economy is not viable to invest in.
Big investors, multinationals are leaving the country, people are losing their jobs, and you think it is a good thing?
Recently, Nigeria market lost 50% of its stock value in the last 3 years, things aren't getting better and it's obvious to the blind.

We really need to start telling ourselves the bitter truth, if not we'll be backwards forever!
