I have just started the following thread on Nigerian political history , compiled using mainly television news reports since 1960.

I would appreciate more sources of archive television video news for Nigeria - especially if it is embeddable on this forums.

Please give your suggestions when you visit the thread.

Litmus: You guys don't understand. Even during the partition of Africa the French had their eyes  on the area which is now Nigeria. With the discovery of oil, French interest  increased. Moreover, with the volatility of oil market, slow progress in alternative technology, forecasts predicting future scarcity of oil, french hunger is now seething, resentful and greedy.  Analysts perhaps more wistful than factual believe the state of Nigeria is fragile. They think it will take only a little to push Nigeria into a state of chaos that would result in the sort of frontiers lawlessness seen in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Congo. They would like a situation  where the state has little power and multinationals can come  in and  hide behind proxies i.e African strong men (warlords ) to steal resources cheaply. Most of the posturing by Cameroon is designed in France. Without French backing, Cameroon could never hope for let alone demand any part of Nigeria. Cameroon and many French West African countries have never really been independent from France. Cameroon is still a colonial child.

Essentially Cameroon does not want land it wants to go to war with Nigeria because the french are behind her. If Nigeria gives up land today they will demand more and more land in future until Nigeria is pushed  to go to war with them. A bit like Nazi Germany being given Sudetenland then Poland and it wanted more until the allied powers had to take a stand.

Personally i think Nigeria should not only not negotiate any more land but Nigeria should sponsor insurgents in Bakassi. We should arm rebels or create some in that area like the American did in Afghanistan during the Russian occupation. We should not fear France, if to push their poppet into war  we should give them one.

first of voice sorry for my style i will make it short........Cameroon history during the protectorate(called colonization even if cameroon has never been colonized) was very difficult because the country was divided in two part and ruled by tow different country (britain and france) so after the independance ....comes the reunification the purpose was to reunite the anglophone with the francophone who despite the fact that they were citizens of the same country were ruled as 2 different people....there were so much difference between them cultural/language etc ..that the invaders(france/britain) decided to organize a referendum many anglophone decided to join Nigeria but here comes my point/problem instead of let them go to nigeria it is whole territory which has been linked to nigeria(the referendum was about the people not the land so i do not understand why they gave u our land) .......i mean when u decided to go somewhere you don't move with the land you take your stuff and you go settle there ...so Nigeria owns us about 200 000 km square ....the Uk gave it to you for no reason ..do you understand now? by the way Ahidjo complained but the french threaten him

You did not answer my question at all. State exactly where this land that you think is owed is located. If you don't know the name, give the coordinates of the boundaries of it.

If you are or if Ahidjo was trying to claim the entire area of those states, then maybe that's why the French told Ahidjo to be quiet. Such a claim does not make any logical sense.

I'm sorry but i don't know well Nigeria and those states ...so i cant tell you the exact limit(we need a map)but you can make your own research .............it was a deal between france and the Uk ....its the only reason why france threatened him ...the claim is logic if you read what i said before ......the referendum was about the people not the land but they didnt care we are just animals that they can moved the way they wanted ....

If Nigerians can be "resettled" and moved from Bakassi on the basis of the claim from colonists that Bakassi belongs to Cameroon, I don't see why the same cannot happen to Cameroonians living on what is claimed to be Nigerian land. If you support one instance, then you must necessarily support the other. Nevertheless, you have yet to give any evidence to suggest than any part of Cross River state or Abia state was originally or properly territorially Cameroonian or that Cameroonians were moved out of that land. The burden of proof is not really on me here, and I don't have access to all material relating to land disputes or the Cameroon-Nigeria referendum at my fingertips or even enough to engage in some sort of exhaustive research of the issue, so I'll just forget about it and move on if you can't bring the evidence.

thats the point you said resettled....but in my case they hadn't been resettled the britain just linked the whole territory .....i will see if i can find any documents in english

I don't know what their opinion on being Cameroonian would be as an outsider - I would guess that they probably would have preferred it to being Nigerian.

But what I do know is that both Cross River state and Abia state and the area "from oron/calabar to Enugu" were part of the Eastern region of Nigeria and were part of the southern protectorate of Nigeria during colonial times. So I don't think there's an issue of land being officially owed that involves these areas.
