frosbel2: Sir if I may ask, Can't "influence" be just as powerful as "force"? I mean, you didn't put actual shackles on your family, BUT you did create an environment where God was not invited. It was a "mind-set" that was subtlety set. You live daily with your family and set the tone for how things are done. If they actually wanted to serve God, I dare say that there would have been some opposition (by you) cause you would've done nothing to support or nurture their desires. So you, indirectly, did turn your family into non-believers. I'm gonna only speak for Christianity when I say that there is such a gross misrepresentation of the Biblical Christianity (the one that Christ tried to display). This boils down to a "heart" issue...a lack of true, Godly conversion. We are, unfortunately, getting it wrong...and need to backtrack, humble ourselves, repent and renew our mind-sets. 1 Like |

frosbel2: This is a sexist remark. And the fact that you didn't realise it buttress my point that most Nigeria men are chauvinist. Ain't there men who worship the ground their Pastor walks on? Don't male child sees their father as role model? So why single out the women when they are also victims as the men to the teaching of religion? So why insult women for believing in something the men are also guilty of? Why not insult the men for being a mumu to religion? In as much as I am against religion , I've never witness a pastor climb the pulpit to preached that a man should abused his wife. The only teaching I've witness is teaching of submission. And I didn't learn that from religion. I first learnt it from my culture. The control of women by men start from the family, then the society at large. Religion only buttress only what's in existence. It's why every single comment on this thread reflect the thinking of an average man. The seeing of women as inferior. |
There are men who worship pastors - true. But the general consensus is that there are far more women in churches all across the world. I wonder why this ! Don't male child sees their father as role model? So they should - I am a very good role model to my sons and they are excellently behaved. So why insult women for believing in something the men are also guilty of? Where did I insult women ? In as much as I am against religion , I've never witness a pastor climb the pulpit to preached that a man should abused his wife. The only teaching I've witness is teaching of submission. And I didn't learn that from religion. I first learnt it from my culture. Lol A few facts 1. Pastors encourage women not to leave marriages , as it is for better for worse, thus leaving women with no alternative than to endure abusive marriages 2. Pastors always ask the wife to submit herself to the husband irrespective of his conduct. How about the husband submit to the wife for a change. 3 . Some churches create chaos in families by asking couples in second marriages to perform restitution by returning to the first spouse even when children are involved. Is this NOT MADNESS - example DEEPER LIFE 4. A friend of mind once lamented about a pastor who was attempting to screw his wife. Pastors have destroyed many families with this attitude - fact 5. Many women go to pastors for advice instead of the husband , relegating many husbands to the role of provider only , while the pastor takes over as the decision maker. One of my friend's marriage was almost destroyed by this behaviour. I can write more, but this list should suffice for now The control of women by men start from the family, then the society at large. Religion only buttress only what's in existence. Buttressed by religious indoctrination |

Mobilia: God ( Not the Christian God ) is invited into my family, I never said I was atheist. Though, I do pray at least 4 times a year ( ), I have not seen my children pray for ages , lol. Furthermore, my wife was already tired of Christianity and contributed majorly to my questioning the faith and eventually leaving it. You live daily with your family and set the tone for how things are done. I can assure you that while my Sons do not affiliate themselves with any religion, they are 1000% better behaved than many children that have been ,and are being churned out from the homes of the religious. My children believe in God, I give them solid advice and allow them make their own decisions. When my first Son bought the 'God Delusion' book by Richard Dawkins, I did not throw him out of house or abuse him or castigate him , I left him alone to read the book and make up his own mind. That is freedom. He told me he still believes in God but he is not a CHRISTIAN and rightly so, he does not have to be one of them hypocrites. Religion (especially Christianity and ISLAM) has turned out some of the greatest hypocrites and gross sinners known to man. Under the guise of religion they have destroyed many lives and bound the minds of countless people in a prison of superstition , misery and myth. It is a know fact the the children of church leaders and their members are as bad as other bad children and sometimes even worse. So what is the point of religion ?? - ABEG |

Funny, most of these talks only ends here. Keep disturbing yourself op and not face your wonderful family, nothing big is going to change. That's just the way it is, somethings are and will never change. |

I. The church generally is against divorce. In fact they are more stricter with men in leadership position. 2. The church won't bestowed a leadership role upon a man who is not married. 3. Men also goes to pastor to ask for consent. If you are a worker in most churches, you can't marry without the pastor's consent. 4. In some churches, there's a rule no man must marry outside of the religion. 5. Some can't leave their marriage despite how unhappy they are. Religion is a tool of control over men and women. I can say that from the point Christianity. |

frosbel2: Thanks for replying me. Umm...so what god is that particular god? It seems like you want to create a convenient "god". Sometimes I have also wanted that. One where I could just live how I want...without any type of accountability. Your family doesn't pray, cause the atmosphere is one where "you" have made it 100 percent acceptable not to do so. Religion has influenced Nigerian culture heavily...but it has been grossly misinterpreted in some aspects. Let me say that I do believe in Christ' model of the family however. You say that your wife was heavily involved...but you, as the man of the household, had the most heavy influence...I can almost guarantee. Your family followed "you". I get giving your children freedom to think for themselves...however it was you and your wife's responsibility to have trained them at a young age...so that it would have been less likely for them to want to have agreed with Richard Dawkins' book..if they decided to explore "religion" as teenage or college aged people. I am very troubled by some African countries (particularly Nigeria's) method of disowning/abandonment or even (murdering children who they have regarded as "witches/wizards", or demonically-possessed. I saw a documentary... :'no words.... So I do respect the fact that you didn't beat your kids for having questions...but you did set the atmosphere for the questions. Yep...Christianity is full of hypocrites...Islam probably too. But that still doesn't excuse you from focusing on Christ and NOT erring people. You let the people influence you...instead of God. Had you prayed sincerely for God to lead you to the church He wanted you to attend and minister in.. (and I'm quite sure it would not have been perfect), you would've probably had less distraction from the people..and more on Him. Instead, you just threw the "baby and the bath water" out. It's about "relationship" with the Lord... Sir...it's about "true heart conversion". 1 Like 1 Share |

Mobilia:One thing most christians don't understand is that we have been in ur shoes, some if not most of us were raised from Christian homes,we have yearned and even had this " relationship" with god yet we became athesits,so we are not talking of things we don't have and idea about,we are talking of things we took part in,I have gone on evangelisms preaching Jesus,Hardmirror says he used to be a pastor, regardless of what you might attribute to be the cause of our change(the devil and his demons I guess) u have to bear in mind that we are not minors as long as the bible and christianity is concerned |

Hermes019: Correct me if I'm wrong. You left christianity because, just like many christians, you never understood it in the first place. You had (still have) questions that either weren't answered at all or the answers you got didn't make sense. 1. Am I right? 2. Let's say you meet God (assume he exists), what question(s) would you sincerely ask? |

Mobilia:I don't have to believe in what doesn't have the capability to believe in me. I was taught to believe that there is someone called God but I was also taught by the Church to read the Bible. Now,I have taught myself to allow myself to live as myself. And I can't always be what I am but I am always what I can't be. 1 Like 1 Share |

HellVictorinho: Who doesn't have the capability to believe in you? Also, doesn't the Bible speak about that "someone" called God? Genesis 1:1& John 1:1 come to my mind...not to mention all throughout the Bible. Your last sentence kinda got me stumped?? Ok....you definitely know how to speak in a riddle-like format.. including your moniker....no offense intended. |

"There are far more women in churches". That is exactly the point and why women should be held more accountable in this regards. It has nothing to do with sexism.. |
Re: Women Need To Throw Away The Shackles Of Religion by Nobody: 11:01pm On Jan 11, 2019 |
janettee: Ok...see I can understand that while very young, most kids aren't given the chance to choose how they want to worship. I'm not sure that a child should have that much responsibility honestly. There is a certain responsibility that is automatically given to the parent regarding (schooling, providing a roof over the head, clothes on the backs, food in the stomachs, healthcare, religion etc.) Ideally, one would want their children to have the same religion as him/her....like having a family business. Then when a child gets to be college aged, whatever has been taught to them either will stick or not...or exploration can begin. If parents have done their part, then it's now left for the child to make his/her own decision about religion... I don't think that realistically, worshipping separately or mixing religions would really work... At some point, clashing or hostility would result (I would think). I could be looking at it from an American perspective though... I'll have to look at the video though about the young lady. From what you have said, I have to respect the young lady's decision to flee because I'm sure it wasn't easy and came at a cost. |
