More women spy on husbands with technology–Study
The research finding that surveillance with technology is undertaken more often by wives than husbands contrasts with the general belief that women are less technologically skilled than men, writes NNAEMEKA MERIBE.

Women are more technology savvy than men, according to British researchers. But that is only when it comes to snooping on their spouses.

The general belief has always been that men are far better than women in mastering technology. But the research gives a lie to that thinking as when it comes to snooping on spouses‘ online activities, men appear to have fallen behind women, the researchers from the London School of Economics and Nottingham Trent University note.

The researchers found that suspicious wives are almost twice as likely as their husbands to spy on their spouse‘s online activities.

This, according to the Mail of London, suggests that when it comes to snooping on their partner, women are quicker to embrace the power of computers and mobile phones.

In a survey by the researchers of almost 1,000 married middle-aged couples, 14 per cent of the wives secretly read their husbands‘ emails, while 13 per cent admitted poring over their beloved‘s text messages.

Of the husbands questioned, only eight per cent admitted reading their wives‘ emails, while seven per cent had checked text messages sent to their partners. The findings were reported in the American journal, Computers in Human Behavior in March.

The researchers asked the couples questions about Internet use to investigate what role the web and text messaging plays in maintaining intimate ‘offline‘ relationships – and whether its use was a cause of conflict between partners.

The study appears to show that some women may develop their IT skills simply to improve their surveillance techniques.

The Internet, like cell phones and hotel rooms is a facilitator of infidelity, rather than a direct cause of it, but it‘s increasingly a catalyst for a particularly pernicious strain of cheating – emotional infidelity – notes sex therapist and relationship expert, Mr. Ian Kerner, in an article on snooping on spouses online published on www.today.msnbc.com.

Partners, therefore, probably snoop on each other online because of emotional insecurity. Take, for instance, the case of Lagos-based banker, Mrs. Stella Matthew (not real name) whose relationship with her spouse is now shaky because her quest for emotional security led her to snoop on her husband on Facebook.

According to her husband, John, Stella took her snooping too far by abusing all his female friends on Facebook. ”She abuses all my female friends on Facebook writing unprintable things on their walls. She thinks there is something emotional between us but some of these people are my colleagues and old schoolmates,” laments a furious John while narrating his story.

I wonder why a woman would marry a man that she doesn't trust.

It really buggles the mind and makes no sense.

^^ When she married him, she trusted him.

Along the line, they both deviated.

@Post:
I definitely agree that technology is a facilitator.

Why should it be the other way round after all women rarely cheat. Imagine marrying a man like Sauron, won't you attach a microchip on his pricc to track him down? Talk true.
