I have seen many cars online within the range of 400k to 600k (my small budget)

Cars in consideration includes but not limited to the following:

Nissan Maxima
dont buy

Nissan Altima
don't buy

Nissan Sunny
ok

Nissan Primera
except it's manual

Nissan Almera
body falls apart easily

Nissan Sentra
you won't regret buying it

Volkswagen Jetta
you are kidding right

Volkswagen Bora
you don't like yourself

Ford focus
ok too

Ford Taurus
how did you even pick this one

Ford Escape
longer throat dey kill pesin

Chevrolet Aveo
your cross will be heavier than Jesus own

Hyundai Accent
ok but your budget only covers old ones

Hyundai Sonata
if you like old school

Hyundai Elantra
your budget no fit buy confam 1

Skoda (I'm nor sure about this brand)
As long as it's the fabia with 1.4L engine wagon or salon is ok don't buy Octavia you are warned.

Audi A4 and A6
you don't want to live long abi?

Honda civic (is it true it's leg doesn't pull like other Honda brands?).
good to go

All within 2000 to 2006/2007

I will appreciate your kind help.

my best advice is to always buy a more recent car, the parts are always still available in brand new form there are some parts that shouldn't be bought as tokunbo.

since you are comfortable with manual I will advice you increase your budget to 700k, look for a 06 to 10 manual Kia Rio should fall within 500 to 600 and use the change to put it to taste.

The Rio leg works will still be solid and underbody won't have rust,u just do some bumper body and flash painting and it will last you a life time

I disagree, so many other things contribute to a comfortable and long lasting man-car relationship.....

I have said this before and I will say it again....
sometimes it's about the brand!

who are the proposed mechanics that will work on the car? service ET all? or I want to stay @ ikotun and have a mechanic in lekki for servicing and minor repairs (major repairs not inclusive if u bought a good buy) .....

where will the car be used? u would want to use a vehicle with high ground clearance if u stay in an area with terrible roads .... or if most of the sensitive and equipments or electronics are located lower than the norm u mustn't stay in a waterlogged environment

some vehicles are notorious for certain problems.... so it's not an issue of good maintenance solves all problems

to a reasonable extent, maintenance is key to the longevity of the ride....

so many things brother, availability of parts nko?

go and kukuma buy a car that to service it u need a specialist located in Abuja and parts to be shipped from Europe.... then and only then will u understand that it's not actually a maintenance issue, it's the environment where the vehicle will be used that's a key player in choosing a vehicle!
Yes sometimes..... Landrover Freelander comes to mind.

But a lot of times too mechanics are responsible... Mazdaengineparts on my mind!!

my point t being, for someone coming from hell..... his list is quite extreme....

VW bora? mechanic that cannot manage common baby boy that every Tom dick and Harry can fix..... he cannot fix properly, is that one a mechanic..... brand is not and never has been the issue except for a few demon influenced cars.....

His list also included Nissan Maxima, Audi a6, fors taurus. Budget 400-600k

OP, after all the troubles, you went ahead to list Nissan's, fords and Volkswagen products in your bucket list? Your village people are at work oo. grin
Consider the Hyundai elantra, accent, Kia Rio, honda civic and the w202 mentioned.

Most importantly, go with a reputable mechanic in those brands or pay Gazzuzz or any of the reputable vehicle pre-purchase inspectors here their token fee to avoid heart aches. The money you spent changing all those parts in your Honda will pay the pre-purchase inspection fee and leave you with enough change to take your wife out instead of dashing it to mechanics.

Increase your budget slightly to avoid buying cheap troublesome cars. They are cheap for a reason.

Consider the 98 Camry too. It is a crazily reliable car. You can even fix it yourself with all the experience you've gained with the Honda if something ever goes wrong.

Thanks boss. Your advise is noted

Hello sir all car have there on problem but in diffrent ways.
I Will advice you to go for hyundai accent.
The accent is one of the least expensive car in the market. Both body types feautures and also one of the best warranties in business sector. It have a six a six standard airbag and their five star frontal crash rating add to model value.
It is not the fastest or the most impressive car but it is fun to drive and the milleage is amazing. It is fuel economy and also require low maintainance cost. Note - it is pron to sluggish movement meaning poor acceleration quality.
ENGING TYPE = 4CYLINDER
ENGINE CAPACITY = 1.4 OR 1.6 LITRE
ENGINE HORSE POWER = 110HP
TRANSMISSION = 4 SPEED AUTOMATIC AND 5 SPEED MANUAL
BODY TYPE ARE :
HATCHBACK 3DGS = 3 DOOR
HATCHBACK 3DSE = 3 DOOR
SEDAN 4DGLS = 4 DOOR.
Thank you

What of the leg issues plaguing Hondas?
HeavenlyBang:

Haha, it's fun to bicker with him. grin

This is also a great option, OP. I usually recommend this for those looking for something in that budget range. Imo, it's a much better car than the Corolla of the same year. Bonus points if it's a manual, very fun to drive.

Thank you all for your advice so far. I really appreciate all your efforts. I really wish I can increase my budget, but man got other important things to do with money. Here is my updated bucket list:

Hyundai Accent
Hyundai Sonata
Hyundai Elantra
Kia Rio

I learnt that Hyundai and Kia spare parts are too expensive and not common to get compared to Toyota, Honda and Nissan and the bodies are too fragile and fail easily. Pls confirm!

Honda civic - I like civic but I'm worried about the Honda leg issues. Can someone confirm to me if Civics legs are without issues.

W202 C class - I'm really worried about the cost of maintenance and parts cost

Please help add to this list.

Chief, why are you like this now, forget all those Hyundai and Kia shii, especially if you don't stay in Lagos.

Honda civic do not pull leg.
C class(1998-2000) parts are not expensive(na OEM you want go dey buy?)

Forget all about your wish list and bucket list shii.

Buy 02-05 manual Honda civic, and have rest of mind.

For your information, people use Honda accord for years without pulling leg. These things can be hard, they can be very easy too.

Thanks for the advise Nurey. I have heard from different sources that kia parts are very expensive and scarce to get. Isn't that true?

Kia and Hyundai engine are some how expensive because of the engine type, majorly those bought brand-new in Nigeria.

The 2006 to 2011 Kia Rio is a solid vehicle, parts are available and it's cheap like pure water as long as the specimen you buy has confirm engine. Also the engine isn't expensive.

If you are afraid of that I have only 2 other options you can buy and enjoy

2000-2005 Honda civic, this one no dey pull leg even if you enter pothole at 120km/h he no go degepo for road like accord.

2001 to 2006 Nissan Sentra with the QG18DE engine that's a 1.8L suffer head engine with timing chain that engine is sturdy, cheap and readily available. what's more the Sentra is the only compact Nissan amongst it's siblings that the body doesn't fall apart easily.

goodluck

U better go for a Toyota or golf 3 and leave all those cars u listed there. With ur budget most of these cars listed will probably give u more problems than the Honda I'm even seeing Maxima, Altima, Sentra, Audi a4, a6, VW Jetta in ur list. For that budget u might be getting a lemon.

Re: My Unforgettable Experiences With Honda; Advice Needed! by CocoaOla: 9:49am On Apr 11, 2019
Op I repeat

You can't compare Honda to Nissan
99s Old Nissan are good before the company was acquired by one France auto company that is not known to manufacture reliable cars.

You can blame Renault for most Nissans quality Controls issues in recent years. Weak transmission is one of the main issues that is hurting Nissan reputation and some minor timing chains tensioners.
Nissan were better in thé olden days when they were Datsuns back then

Honda quality Used to be neck to neck with Toyota in 90s and 2000s but in recent years the natural disasters in Japan make them slip a little but Honda are still better made than Nissan. Toyota and Honda are still the overall leaders reliability Honda need to seat up in quality control to maintain their reputation with Toyotas now

Yes of coz o ... especially coolant due to the engine running constantly.. And good oil filter like fram .. Ultra synthetic oil filter like fram is good for 15k oil change.. So what I do with my civic I use Mobil 1 extended performance and oil filter till about 12k miles oil change.. When I use those two ,I save money on the long run ..
