My point! It’s not about Ronaldo alone. Messi wasn’t the best player in Europe this season. If you read my other posts, I posited that even a Van Dijk will be a strong contender if Liverpool go on to win the Champions league. After all, he was voted PFA player of the year this season beating prolific goal scorers.

My point is simply that Messi doesn’t have a straight ticket to the Ballon d’or

This CL campaign I think has been one with the most comebacks with Porto, Ajax, Manchester United, Juventus and now Liverpool which surpassed them all.
This same scenario happened in 2015 when Barca won the first league 3-0 against a solid Bayern team & injury stopped two of their good players but despite winning at Allianz they couldn't comeback from that defeat even with Pep as the coach. It just got me wondering if the players in barca's team then were the difference or the Bayern players lost any hope of comeback.

Respect to Liverpool! Coming from a Chelsea fan. They were underdogs, completely written off-No Salah (their star man), No Firmino. 3 goals down against the “almighty Barcelona”. What a feat!

I’m extremely happy that Messi didn’t get to the final , else he would have easily won the Ballon d’or. As a Ronaldo fan, it’s soothing to see Messi out of contention to win the Champions league, else he would have had an edge over Ronaldo.

Respect to liverpool but Chelsea did it better. Right in their backyard....

Not a barca fan, but barca were unlucky not to have scored. Suarez one on one with goal keeper and he couldnt finish..
