Spare parts for W203 are kinda pricy. I replaced my CV joints for 130k (2005 MY 4MATIC) last year. The front strut (shocks) are weak and need to be replaced but i'm even scared of asking for the price of a new genuine set. A mechanic told me a pair of tokumbo is about 65k, i'm yet to confirm sha..

Drive on the bad road slowly. Sadly the ones we call good roads in Lagos are littered with pot holes. You see a fresh one daily like they are dug overnight.

I try as much as possible to avoid bad roads and I drive very carefully on the ones I can't avoid. I have a 94 civic for the dirty job (bad roads). That way I can curtail unnecessary expenses.

Regards,

I'm sorry I think you have the EIS problem pretty popular with the 2008 the car won't recognize the key again. Sadly it costs an arm and a leg to fix here and you might have to wait for new key and EIS from Germany.

@slyboggie, i concur completely with cne010 that the problem with your w204 is EIS related(common problems with the w204) and my brother budget a minimum of #350,000 for the repairs and it sure will take a while before that is resolved because the new key has to be programmed in Germany.

Thanks for the info.
Do you have any reliable person around I could reach to fix the problem.
At least i should start the process now.

Am not too sure of the Benz mechanic that i know if he can be able to handle the repairs because it's good to use an expert for this type of repairs. On page 48 of this thread, TheGrandMaster had same issue with his own w204 and i will suggest you contact him so he can assist you. When you review his post,he spent money for the wrong diagnosis at the initial time until he was able to get it resolved using the right mechanic.

Sadly you're not in Lagos, I don't know any mechanic in PH that can hook you up. Good to know you haven't been spending money on trial and error.

Slyboggie,
I don't know where you live but close to eliozu junction, towards Rumuodomaya axis from that roundabout,there's a Mercedes shop about 500m from the roundabout, they repair high end Mercedes cars (forgotten the name). I visited there in the days I had one...it's located along the road...

My car is at about 61k miles, and averagely from what i got on the internet failure is around 70k miles. Replacing the EIS cost about N198k then there is what is called the green key which is used to program the EIS to work with your old key that costs another N115k, i ordered a spare key for my car so my total bill shot up to about N500k with other sundry charges included. Thats why i advice you confirm replacement of the part from wherever you are buying so you dont go through that stress

@grandmaster

It's seems you went through the same problem I am having now.

How did you go about it??

Folks I hail una.
This FSS stuff appears on the dash board of my W202 2000 modelC230 Kompressor
What does it mean? What can be done about it.
Also my instrument cluster doesn't illuminate at night even when I put on the parking light. Any solution?

You won make we fine you? You finally got the w202 and didn't come to appease the gods with quality pics of the machine? Congrats man welcome to the club. Sorry about your instrument cluster light have you checked the fuse?

FSS means Flexible Service System I found this on the internet give it a try;
1. Turn electronic key in steering lock to position 2.

2. Within 4 seconds press button 0 twice.

3. The present status for days or distance is displayed. Within 10 seconds turn electronic key in steering lock to position 0.

4. Press and hold button 0, while turning electronic key in steering lock to position 2 again. The present status for days or distance is displayed once more. Continue ot hold button 0. After approx. 10 seconds a signal sounds, and the display shows 10,000 miles for approx. 10 seconds.

5. Release button 0.

I get as far as the end of step 4 but the signal does not sound after holding down the button 0 for 10 seconds.

Sorry house about my late update on my W203.
I took it to my mechanic on Monday, and he said it was some water that splashed into my coil, that I should keep using it and watch, lo and behold... I'm still driving smoothly till now.

Thank you all.

Hello @ Slyboggie, i apologise for my late response. Please do not let any none merc specialist touch that car. My advice is to tow the vehicle to Mercedes Benz in Lekki, thats the one close to Elegushi beach. They will do a full diagnosis and give you an estimated bill and then you can take it from there. Email me so i can give you the number for someone that works there. **modified** didnt know you live in port harcourt, still shoot me an email and i will give you the guys number, i am sure there will be a solution
