Lack of knowledge of history is worrying you. Buhari that just came out of prison imposed on him by IBB and abiolas coup were dasuki abused hell out of him.. then gets a call from abacha that had already imprisoned Abiola, Yaradua, Obasanjo, and Diya.. is he stupid to say No and return to prison after lossing his mother and wife? Common man lets be reasonable. Buhari already won the election he needed.no SW approval but made National Stadium Abiolas remembrance.

When you guys celebrate Buhari on his recognition of June 12, kindly remember that there wouldn't have been any place for June 12, if the same Buhari and his gang of coup plotters didn't truncate our democracy in 1983.

Celebrating Buhari's achievement in recongizing June 12 is like celebrating a man who stole from you and later repented and returned whatever is left of what he stole. Imagine someone stole your 10k and after several years, he had a change of mind and returned 2k to you. You then turn around and make a hero out of him. That's what some of you are doing.

if there is division then why should we celebrate? I am not saying the date is wrong but everything in Nigeria is now wrong. to celebrate something , there have to be acceptance which will never be possible especially now that the present administration is doing everything to fuel the hate .

If there's is a division how does that translate to democracy day being a Yoruba cultural celebration? Aren't you mixing unrelated things together?

Every other past leader both military and civilian except Buhari has given an account of its stewardship by writing a book detailing every decisions and nail biting maneuvers in the cause of running the government. Long after they left office, they attended leadership schools, public service institutes, gave lectures and symposiums, seminars, and contributions.

Only Buhari never did. He went locked down except during elections where he contested. He never read and never wrote. He was rusting, yet like an archeological finding, we excavated a fading memory and dusted a dying cognitive tissue to become a PRESIDENT.

You see! Nigeria's problem is not the question of the elite vs the masses but an interpolation of both.

There is no need making noise about their absence because they do not have moral justifications to attend. Now, let's face it.

- Gen Ibrahim Babangida is the notorious villain in the June 12 narratives. So, he would be a fat head to show at such event where he would demonized the more.
- Abdulsalam Abubakar buried June 12 in Nigerian history when he took over as Head of State as a follow-up to what his 'distant Minna cousin' did. So, showing up is to accept that annuling June 12 1993 was a wrong action, which would translate to stabbing Babangida in the back.
- Chief Olusegun Obasanjo hated MKO Abiola for whatever reasons and naturally he was not expected to show up. And this is aside from official beef he has with Pres. Buhari and of course the fact that his June 29 Democracy Day legacy was being destroyed.
- Dr. Goodluck Jonathan rejected June 12 while in office and having been, in turn, rejected by SW, it will be stupid to show up. This is apart from the frosty relationship between him and Pres. Buhari.

So, you see why it is needless to make noise about their absence. In fairness, I am not even sure Buhari would have attended if he wasn't the president.
That's why you people fail in school and blame lecturers.....Jonathan rejected June 12 yet named unilag after him which you people rejected........ IBB the major June 12 actor is still alive so call for his trial and persecution and leave other people alone

Its really sad the fact that history.isnt been thought on schools now people come up with twisted version.

For the sake of time.i will itemize my points.

*military take over isn't always a bad thing especially if civilians call for it.

* Buhari was in a course abroad when shagari coup was Sponsored by Abiola, Ibb, ibrahim bako and Abacha

*As the most highest ranking officer of the time, buhari agreed to lead the military goverment and look into corruption allegation levied on shagari regime and then conduct an election after the fourth year.

*Abiola and Ibb ousted Buhari due to idiagbons stance on abiolas import waiver for RCN equipment, and the arrest of some of ibb's drug moles.

*Buhari was subsequently jailed for almost 4 years by Abiolas coupist friend ibb.

*his recognition of june 12 strugle isn't about him or abiola or ibb neither is it about yorubas. It is about Nigerian electorate been demied democracy.

You have come with ur revisionist history again.

For the sake of kids reading on this forum. A coup is primarily treason. There's no justification for a coup. No coup plotter can claim to be a patriot.

Buhari was a GOC in Jos in 1983. The highest ranking officer was the then COAS Gen. Wushishi.
Buhari himself in 2015 in Chatham house took responsibility for the coup, which was his final admission of being a part of it after years of denying even in the face of glaring evidence to the contrary.

Buhari was in Jos when the coup was ongoing. He was not on any course
Buhari never had any plan to hand over to a democratic govt. As a matter of fact, he was forming know all and see all which is how he began losing support of other military officers.
Finally, you're the one who needs to get ur facts of history right and stop pulling up facts out of your rotten behind

June 12 isn't About anyone its simply about Democracy, and Courageous Nigerians.

Buhari did the right thing by honoring Nigerian struggle and bringing back history.into the National curriculum.
But since buhari started cancelling Oil mining licenses of associates of past leaders and elites they got angry forgeting june12 isn't about Buhari/Abiola or APC/PDP but nigerians

We also need to give a public holiday to.celebrate the end of Nigerian Civil war. Nigeria can't continue to hide its past.. we need a day to discuss about it, so.that evil people wont rewrite our history.

Rwanda and Japan both have a public holliday to reflect on both the Genocide and Nuclear bombing, nigeria also needs this and to seperate Nationalism from Politics.

ur head dey shake. tell me which history book in our schools clearly speaks about the events of june 12? we only depend on whatever we are told. we are now celebrating June 12 which over 80% of Nigerians know very little or nothing about. Buhari will just wake up with his daft brain to give the yorubas peanuts and they will go about worshipping him. let's wait and see what happens come 2023. SW will be shocked. I just dey watch them.

Again? Lies!!
Buhari was released in 1988. He became PTF chairman in 1995. So he did not just come out of prison and get a call from Abacha. OBJ, Yar'adua and Abiola antagonised Abacha's govt openly which was the reason for their incarceration. Buhari never did that. As a matter of fact, buhari praised Abacha for rehabilitating him and shagari while also gifting him an appointment to resuscitate his pockets.

Your attempt at justifying the coup or absolving Buhari of full blame in the coup is sickening.

... The leader of the coup d'état was Major General Muhammadu Buhari of Katsina, whose background and political loyalties tied him closely to the Muslim north and the deposed government...
1983 Coup

By the end of 1983, the civilian government in Nigeria was overthrown by a military coup led by Major-General Muhammadu Buhari.
BBC News – Nigeria's Military Coup of 1983

Which civilians called for the 1983 coup? What made that coup a good thing?

And is Buhari presently giving the Nigerian electorates democracy? How will this recognition of June 12 translate to real democracy for Nigerians? Will it prevent people being slaughtered all over Nigeria by Fulani herdsmen and the presidency keeps mum?

Stop this propaganda. Buhari was with Abacha when he killed Kudirat and imprisoned Abiola..
Buhari was with Abacha when he framed up OBJ and Yar’dua.
He dined and wined with Abach.. He said that Abacha was not corrupt because he was a PTF Chairman.

With this long story, I was expecting to read one breaking news on why, but na case of do me I do you

Why they failed to attend a June 12 event.

1. Obasanjo is ashamed of himself because a resolution of the Senate was passed in 2005 to rename national stadium as mko Abiola stadium, he refused. Obasanjo has deep rooted hatred for Abiola so he won't come. You don't expect Obasanjo to be where Abiola is being honored.

2, Absallam won't come because the May 29 date was his wife birthday which Buhari changed now. Don't forget that Abiola died in the hand of Abdulsalam.

3, Do you expect Babangida that annulled June 12 election to attend?

4, For the same reason, you don't expect Sonekan to attend because he was made to replace Abiola by Babangida and later disgracefully removed by Abacha after 3 months.

5. Jonathan attempted to honour Abiola and right the wrong but he lacked the political will to do it.

Who else? They are all enemies of June 12 hence their gang up not to attend. They were not missed anyway.
