Our president generalised crime for all Nigerians abroad and we still asked him to continue. So

Flets:
Nigeria's president has warned his fellow citizens to stop trying to make asylum claims in Britain, saying that their reputation for criminality has made it hard for them to be "accepted" abroad.

Muhammadu Buhari, the tough ex-general elected last year, said those who had joined the migrant exodus to Europe were doing so purely for economic reasons rather than because they were in danger.

He added that because of the number of Nigerians imprisoned for law-breaking in Britain and elsewhere, they were also unlikely to get much sympathy.

"We have an image problem abroad and we are on our way to salvage that"

"Some Nigerians claim is that life is too difficult back home, but they have also made it difficult for Europeans and Americans to accept them because of the number of Nigerians in prisons all over the world accused of drug trafficking or human trafficking," he told The Telegraph.

"I don't think Nigerians have anybody to blame. They can remain at home, where their services are required to rebuild the country."

Giving nigeria visa free status will flood their country with millions of unproductive Nigerians. Nobody wants that. Anyone who deserves a Visa will most likely get it if he applied. After all, Nigeria didn't give SA free visa entry, so?

The most reasonable post on this thread. Thank you.

Get real people. Nigeria's population is 200 million. Ghana's is 28 million. Granting visa free access to Nigerians to South Africa will lead to heavy migration that that country cannot possibly handle. It makes no sense for them to grant Nigerians visa free access when they still have a huge population of deprived people in SA that need attention. I wouldn't take this personal at all. We are a huge country.

There are 2 million Ghanaians in South Africa, that should tell you that Ghanaians can afford to travel anywhere in this world especially with the huge monies we earn.

You dey mind these mumus grin grin. Ghanaians have been in south Africa way before Nigerians were even allowed near any border of the country. We have never had any animosity against Ghanaians because they posed no threat to our society and were and most of them still are adding positively to the country .Respect is earned not demanded , a concept that seems foreign to the average *zoogerian* grin.

Apart from that, I read somewhere that south Africa is very discriminatory against its fellow African countries when it comes to this visa issue. U can c from d numbers, 16 to Africa and 59 to countries outside Africa. It just confirms d report I mentioned

South Africa also being the only country that feeds other African nations in their country. I'm sure I cannot move to Somalia & receive a monthly stipend from their government, but Somalis & other nations are full at our SASSA offices to apply for child support grants. Nations outside of Africa aren't a financial burden. They pay their own way. Countries like Zimbabwe etc. have refugee camps in their countries. In South Africa, you're assimilated into the community & for the most part, receive the same services as South Africans. Can I go to Zambia & build myself a shack there without permission from their authorities? I doubt it. But in South Africa we have shacks & other illegal structures owned by immigrants, everywhere. They feel so at home that they do as they please & make demands on our government that they'll never dare to make on their government back home. South African politicians are such ass kissers when it comes to other African countries. They go out on a limb & yet it's never enough for the ungrateful Africans. That's why Apartheid parties made a strong comeback in our last elections. They want to put a stop to this & send you all packing.

Exactly! I was in South Africa on a one-month-vacation. During that period I realize why they hate Nigerians with passion and they are justified. Almost all the Nigerians in South Africa are drug dealers and armed robbers.

Ask any Nigerian in South Africa to mention the exact name of his business or the company he works, you may be surprised at their responses. Most will call it "hustling".

I am a Nigerian but the truth is Nigerians are criminals including my brothers. My immediate younger brother refused to go to school and ran to Malaysia. To do what exactly? He said he is hustling. Which occupation is "hustling" if not internet fraud and armed robbery. In my entire clan, everybody wants quick money (ego mbute). No youth in my community is thinking about education again. They want to travel abroad and make money.

My prayer is that God will punish anybody whose mission in life is to defraud others of their hard earned money, my brothers/sisters inclusive if they undertake this evil route to riches. Success and peace shall be elusive to them. Nobody deserves to be defrauded be it black or white. Foreign or local.

Thanks for your honesty.

I've always said it, that Nigerians are a curse to any country that let's then in. South Africa will be so stupid to issue visa free entry, when the entire country feels like a war zone. I was in Ghana in February and the prostitute standing along the road, especially around osu area are mostly Nigerians. The men are into internet criminal activities and all kinds of illicit act. Also Ukraine which I visited 3 times within the last six months and it's the same. Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the same thing.

When I studied in the Netherlands, most of my classmates and sometimes, teachers do joke with me about the emails they receive from Nigerian scammers, even if you simply post your phone/laptop etc to sell on OLX in other countries, you'll meet Nigerian scammers specialized in that area, telling you send it to Nigeria and they will pay you when it arrives.

And in the UK, US, Italy, Spain, just name it. I was stopped one time three years ago by a male in his 20's, angry that I dressed in red, warning me never to do it again or else, I'll pay the price. I looked at him and warned him that if he wants to spend the rest of his life in jail, that he should stop me next time. They've exported occultism here, especially in Italy where Edo boys kill themselves like chicken. Any country that opens its door to Nigerians will suddenly be filled with Nigerians doing all kind of internet crimes and criminal activities. Its do deeply woven in the mindset of Nigerians that the only way to make money is to "hammer". The only country I know of with level headed Nigerians doing professional activities is Australia, thanks to their immigration system.

Sentimentalism and being overly emotional are what most posters on this thread are responding with. No country will take your responsibility for you. If Nigeria refused to get its act together, they will experience more rejections from countries as time goes by, e.g Bahrain, that had ban admissions to Nigerians completely, and even if you are Dangote, you wont be issued a Visa.

Really? That's interesting. I don't no d relationship SA has with Somalia or how Somalis do things in SA but u are using Somalia as a basis 4 ur argument to talk about 53 other African nations depending on how many of these nationalities are represented in SA. So u should clarify that first.

I need nothing in Zambia, however here, we have laws. You don't just build anywhere even as a South African, but other Africans are not obeying the laws, then cry xenophobia when they're told to move.

I said Somalia & other other nations. Surely you didn't expect me to enumerate every single country.

I don't care what people do in their countries, but here we have laws that must be adhered by. Don't countries have refugee camps? Even Zimbabwe has refugee camps (e.g. Tongorara), where people from Mozambique etc are kept as separate entities.

Yes there are criminals everywhere but Nigerians over do things. How can you go to someone's country and keep scamming them persistently. You are all over the places with loudness , who will take that? Look at what is going on in Nigeria and Ghana. Guys stealing ladies panties and bra for yahoo yahoo money . Innocent university students and prostitutes are being killed for yahoo yahoo money. These yahoo yahoo criminals keep flaunting the ill gotten wealth and that attract other young men to join the act. It's becoming a culture in Nigeria. Everyday EFCC is arresting them all over the country. You take it to another country and you expect that you will be tolerated and allowed? You try.

Lastly, am not too sure how d issue of Zimbabwe & its refugee camp has added value to this discussion

I asked a rhetoric question about Zambia & I doubt very much that they allow just about anyone to build on their land without permission. I also mentioned countries that restrict people to campsites. If it was a free-for-all in every country, people wouldn't be living in tents on camp grounds. But in South Africa, people are given the opportunity to live at any part of the country & rent like everyone else, just don't build illegal structures at will.
That's why we have the internet. The information on grants & shacks is easily accessible to you on the net, so you don't have to rely only on my words.

Of course it adds much value, because Zimbabweans live freely in South Africa, but put others in camps in their country. The hypocrisy of other Africans is glaring & yet the South Africa that does more than any other country for refugees is criticized for not doing enough, when others don't even bother to assimilate refugees into their communities. If you don't see the interconnection in this, oh well.
