I'm past even counting now. Almost one year and half of regret mails and failed interviews. As time goes on, my CV collects dust and that only makes finding work even harder as nobody likes to see gaps on CV. My confidence is at an all time low, my future is looking very dark right now, despite the hope of a brighter day I try to have.
shocked shocked We are trying to get him out of his bad state and not you in. God is your strength, don’t lose hope.

Young blood.....keeping pushing it.

I have over 800 ( Eight Hundy ) regret emails before I finally got a job. I kept these to show my siblings when they get depressed during job hunting ...the 800 were within 4 months...

Take note of , and do , the following ;

- Till you get your job..you have no other business on the internet besides searching job boards and applying for roles.

- For most multinationals ..first screening is done by a robot. Before uploading your cv , you need to tailor it such that all keywords in the job description are on your CV. Don’t just develop a general CV and throw at every job.

- You need interview experience. Apply and interview for jobs / companies you know you wouldn’t even want to work for...wether na egg dem dey pack there o ..or Na car wash ..as far as dem advertise vacancy ..throw your CV..after attending a few interviews , you would be less nervous when THE INTERVIEW comes...I was so confident at the interview that finally got me a job that I wasn’t worried sharing 2 to 3 big stouts with one of my yeye paddies before the interview.

- Do some research about any company interviewing you. Products ..Services...Competition..previous year financials..etc

- Don’t limit yourself geographically...and I don’t mean Nigeria..the world has really gone smaller..one of my mumu guys for Ilorin throw CV to Multinational wey dey UK ..dem fly am go interview for Ghana..before you know he was in the UK with the firm..no foreign masters ..nothing ..2-2 from Ilorin village

- You get a regret email ?... look at what you might have missed /done wrong and reapply immediately if possible. Those days I would be on my computer applying ..regret email notification comes in..I yinmu..finish the one I dey do..go to that regret email and reapply ...their daddy !!

Thanks for sharing this,it's really encouraging.GIVING UP IS NOT AN OPTION.

I can't even recall the number of regret mail I have gotten since I started applying.
One thing is certain, being unemployed doesn't mean we can't be self-employed.

The road is sometimes rough, but we will always reach the smooth path

These comments are quite unusual of nairalanders. But be it as it may, one just have to keep hope alive. Job search period I will say is a trying period especially when the results are not forth coming, you just have to keep pressing and keep believing.

Dont turn to an atheist oo.

Something would come, i wish i could say soon but i dont know when. Note that it would only come if you keep trying. Most times it’s the one we least expect.

During my time, i didnt really occupy myself and it affected me. Try to keep busy while also practicing gmats etc. i hope your interview skills are good also so that you dont waste the one you passed the aptitude test.

Hang on

Have you thought of volunteering with an NGO? You could get valuable work experience this way. Also apply to an SME and try to get on board. sad

Some SMEs entry criteria are not as strict as those of multinationals. Their pay is not much, but it allows you to acquire work experience, contacts and a small salary to keep body and soul, together.

But research the SME well o, before joining them. You don't want to get there, and they start owing you salary for 2 months, after paying you the 1st month. undecided

I had a friend who joined a local security services company, after trying unsuccessfully to get a job with different conglomerates. After about 2 years, an international oil company contracted the firm she was working for, to provide them with security services in one of their locations.

She was assigned to that location, as a security back-up personnel. She was very diligent and hardworking.

After 3 months, one of the oil company's staff in the security dept resigned to go abroad, and that was how she was asked to take up the role. Within 6 months, she was made a full time staff by the IOC. Na so Papa God take pick her call, o! shocked

Take an ICT related course with relevant certifications. You can look at areas like database administrator, software development or coding, hardware repairs (e.g with HP certifications), digital marketing, network cabling, AutoCAD etc.

These will help to give you an advantage in the job market, and you can also use it to create a job for yourself.
