i so agree to WS comments. many of the youths I see today will be worse if they were in the helm of affairs, The few ones that have tasted power proved me right. Yaya Bello, Dimeji Bankole etc.
The youths that will bring this nation high are in abroad now... If only they would be given key positions when they return. Their mentality has been reevaluated. As for the useless ones in this country, it's like moving from frying pan to fire. They lack everything

I don't even notice it everytime I am FTC. It is when I see people on some threads mentioning FTC that I always realise I have been FTC many times. FTC doesn't have exchange rate with the america dollar. That shows that its value is nothing.

It is a serious issue if an important topic for discussion is put on nairaland and what a good number of respondents are competing for "is the to comment" position. It means that many of such responses will not be intelligent. This is a bad development that an elder has seen and he is calling our attention indirectly to it. A development that one can not be proud of when compared with discussions on similar platforms around the world.

Soyinka was speaking about Nairaland. The ''1st to comment'' line gave it away.

Professor Wole Soyinka is talking in parables!!
He said:they sit and wait for a piece of the national cake
Think about it,I think he is trying to say we only know how to make mouth online and cannot come out to fight for revolution, older people believes revolution can only happen with the help of the youths.

They are many here. They do not know what life is yet, commenting and insulting people who are older and have amount to great things in life is their logo. Tell them to bring solution to the table, you will then realise that they have nothing to offer.

“The first thing is that I have never given a blanket endorsement of youth. I used to exchange friendly disagreements with Tai Solarin from time to time over this. I remember I took him on once when he said, I can die for the young generation, and I said, don’t say that. Don’t be so sweeping in your statement, some of this young generation is treacherous and many of them are only just waiting for their own slice of the national cake.

“But something has been happening to our youth. It’s probably the technological strides in communication and dissemination of information. Far too many of them, empty-headed, really think that they know. They are what I sometimes refer to as the generation of be–the- first- to- comment. It’s like they are sitting down there, they don’t understand the issue somebody has just posited, either as a blog or whatever you people call it, I don’t know– I don’t live in that virtual realm," he added.

This description of Nigerian youths is an off-shoot of the Nigerian society (if still existing) created by the older folks (the leaders of yesterday, today and the nearest future as they have refused to pass on the baton). The older ones, the so-called leaders created the framework of what the average Nigerian youth is today. When they see their fathers, grandfathers (the leaders/politicians and other figures) live a life that negates the ideal way of life, a life of corruption, and that they created an institution of the unsmart being rewarded with a luxurious life and the intelligent being rewarded with a life of struggle to the top. As such, they do not see the need to be smart, intelligent or have the eagerness to keep improving themselves. Hence, a lot of dumb youths these days.

Sadly, it will be worse for the upcoming generations if not attended to quickly.
