Xenophobia: Airline’s Evacuation’s Plan Postponed by Busy003: 2:14pm On Sep 06

The plan by the Air Peace Airline to evacuate Nigerians in South Africa from Sept. 6 suffered a setback as majority of those interested in the process have expired passports.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the airline with the support of the Federal Government had scheduled to begin evacuating Nigerians from South Africa on Sept. 6.

This was sequel to the ongoing xenophobic attacks against Nigerians and other foreign nationals living in that country.

Mr Allen Onyema, the Chairman of Air Peace, said in a statement in Lagos on Friday that the most of the potential returnees were yet to renew their documents.

Onyema said the airline had already placed its Boeing 777 aircraft on standby and was only awaiting the go-ahead from the government.

“The Air Peace flight to South Africa will take off from the Lagos Airport and also return to Lagos. As earlier stated, the take off could be Sept 9 or Sept 10.

“This is because the Nigerians in South Africa have to obtain travel certificates because many of them do not have travel documents and their passports have expired.

“Air Peace has placed its aircraft, Boeing 777 for the flight since Sept. 3, but the Nigerian High Commission needed time to register the Nigerians billed to travel.

And, they are already doing that in Johannesburg and Pretoria.”

Onyema described the attacks against Nigerians and other Africans in South Africa as unfortunate, especially with the alleged tacit support being given to the perpetrators by the authorities.

He advised Nigerians without legal documents in South Africa to take advantage of the evacuation flight to return to the country.

NAN reports that the Federal Government has pulled out of World Economic Summit holding in Cape Town and also proposed recall of its Ambassador to South Africa, Ambassador Kabiru Bala

The government had also issued travel advice to Nigerians intending to visit South Africa due to the xenophobic attacks.

I'm sure our Nigerian brethren are not happy with this new development which prevents them from returning to Nigeria.

See am

How will you allow your Passport and travel documents to expire in another man's land without doing anything about it. Sometimes it's difficult to defend our people...

When FG said no Nigerian died people were shouting and saying Lai Mohammed, what do you expect FG to do when Nigerian citizens are not properly documented.
As far as the FG is concerned if a Nigerian nationals with no documentation died = No one died ..

Someone with no documentation can claim any country....

Made me remember one controversial video I watched about china harvesting people's organ ..

They arrest people with no documentation and harvest their organ making it difficult for people to locate them.
Only God knows how many of our Citizens have died abroad

EDIT
No matter your status abroad.. No one deserves to die

majority of those interested in the process have expired passports.

Why not repatriate the ones without expired passports, while the others renew their travel documents?

These stories need to be straight.

How many have current passports and how many don't?

Even if it's taking them to a nearby country in the meantime, I thought there were standard procedures normally followed in such matters.

Most of them don't have plans of returning and don't want to return that is why they allowed their documents to expire without renewing them.

Do you have a space (supermarket, Shops, Hospital, Restaurants, Hotel, Home & room e.t.c)and its important to keep away from dust, or isolates the noise or air conditioning? This is the perfect product for you.
The Magnetic PVC curtains fits both outdoor and indoor space

There is an emergency travel documentation that can be issued on the spot by Nigeria embassy if they are really serious about evacuation.

Do you know anyone who wants to be repatriated?
The most likely reason for this postponement might be lack of interest in
returning to Nigeria.
At least, those I know are not interested in the offer.

Its better to repatriate the ones without document, meanwhile they can't even take all Nigerians there at a go.
God will give them wisdom.

We have to go along with the story.

We can't say Nigerians are not interested in returning home.

Or that Nigerians want them to remain there.

Those igbo guys still want to continue with whatever they are doing in south africa - selling fake recharge cards, drugs etc. They forget that eventually they may fall victim to another xenophobic attack. These attacks wont end soon because politicians are fuelling it to divert attention away from their corruption. This talk of expired passport is a ruse.
