i view this whole thread as funny because for some pages, a lotta people have been saying a lotta crap about hiphop
Give me an example that is valid, I promise not to be overly critically and try my best to explain what is trying to be said.
Yes I will agree that some people choose to focus on one aspect of the topic than other parts which I may feel is more important (but that is only my point of view)

I have a great sense of humor so take that back, I laughed when I saw ur response!!

In all and all, I apologize If I came on a bit harsh that is not my intention, but I like when I am seeing or taking part in a conversation, I see where you are coming from, If I come off a bit raw, just let me know, which you did and Ill make a mental note to self

@drea:

aight then drea, since for weeks now, i've been using mah phone to acess and send messages on NL, you'd have to bear with me if i can't quote people directly.

There was a page where one said hiphop's the BEAT. Another's the general misconception that hiphop is the music, rather it is an urban culture and rap IS actually the music. What many didn't understand is that hiphop has other branches. e.g: breakdancing, graffiti, dj-ing, beatboxing, mc-ing.
The result of these misconceptions are that, people most times DON'T listen to the lyrics of these rap artistes and they get misunderstood.

@ Gbade.X

They actually listen to the lyrics but don't understand still.
Re: "The Sad Truth About Hip Hop" <chain letter> by drea(f): 2:13am On Nov 14, 2006
Hip Hop is not just the beat – it is an aspect of Hip Hop – just to clarify Hip hop is not just one thing but depends on many different aspect to form the culture of Hip Hop – dress, speech, etc.
About the beat: When somebody writes a letter/music or creates a beat the heart of the author travels with what they have created. What goes into creating these lyrics and beats? Watch interviews of singers, actors or other creationist, they will use words/phrases such as I put my all into it, you have to have a lot of heart, or I had to tap into that spirit to get into character… Do an internet search or watch BET interviews and listen to what they say when the interview ask how do they write these lyrics, where do the get them from etc.
(General question to anyone that reads this post… What do you think they mean when they say that they have to get in tune with a spirit (or tap into a source other than God) to create music or to play a part?)
Why this was brought up as an issue is some of these artists heart (there purpose of creating these beats or writing these lyrics) compromise our spirit – without our consent –

Putting beats/music to the test:
For two (if you can make it three) weeks completely isolating yourself from listening to any kind of music… and after those two/three weeks tell me what happens…I could tell you but that would defeat the whole point this is something that your going to have to test yourself.
IF YOU ARE CURIOUS TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS AND DONT WANT TO TEST JUST ASK?
Remember when discussing this topic you have to think about the spiritual aspects of what is being said or done in music. I will go into the lyrics a next time and the background of these artist

Thank you very much drea. I now have more topics to talk about on my next album. Its so amazing cuz people who just shoot down gospel hiphop are not really listen to real words of whats being said. I actually like this forum, its great for new ideas. I gotta make sure the whole world hears what I have to say.

I'm a Christian,so i mean no offense by saying i find it hard to believe in this listening to music backward thing.(i wonder how it is done) i believe if a song is demonic or what ever once u listen to it u would hear all the crap and blasphemous things they are saying. i mean WATS the essence of hiding it!so please i want to be educated on why you hv to listen to it backwards to hear the real thing they are saying
Re: "The Sad Truth About Hip Hop" <chain letter> by 9jaLady: 2:49pm On Nov 20, 2006
I also understand what you guys are saying, but one thing I have to say is that you cant just pick on hip-hop because any type of music can be demonic from the message. Even a gospel music can be demonic if the devil is behind it.

What Lil Ayo said is interesting with what we think about Gospel Hip-Hop. I didnt hear an answer on that from Drea. I've heard his album and I think its amazing because it relates to the young people. In a way, he's also speaking their language but telling the truth at the same time.

I'm now becoming a fan of Gospel Hip-Hop foreal.

hey free what's your number I'll definitely give u a ring. Find it hard to believe some of what u wrote some info u got is wrong. The album title is 'the black album', d lyrics are:

Lucifer, dawn of de morning! I'm gonna, chase you out of Earth
Lucifer Lucifer, dawn of de morning,
(I'm from the murder capital, where we murder for capital)
Lucifer Lucifer, dawn of de morning! I'm gonna, chase you out of Earth
(Kanyeeze you did it again, you a genius nigga!)
Lucifer Lucifer, dawn of de morning,
So you niggas change your attitude
For they askin what happened to you

[Verse One]
Lord forgive him
He got them dark forces in him
But he also got a rightous cause for sinnin
Them a murder me so i gotta murder them first
Emergency doctors performin procedures
Jesus
I ain't tryin to be facetious
But "Vengance is mine" said the Lord
You said it better than all
Leave niggas on deaths door
Breathin off res-por-rators
for killin my best boy, HATERS
On perminate hiatus as i skate
In the Maybach Benz
Flya the Sanna Lathan
Pumpin "Brown Sugar" by D'Angelo
In Los Angeles
Like an evangelist
I can introduce you to your maker
Bring you closer to nature
Ashes after they cremate you bastards
Hope you been readin your psalms and chapters
Payin your ties being good Catholics
I'm commin

[Chorus:]
Lucifer, dawn of de morning! I'm gonna, chase you out of Earth
Lucifer Lucifer, dawn of de morning,
(I'm from the murder capital, where we murder for capital)
Lucifer Lucifer, dawn of de morning! I'm gonna, chase you out of Earth
Lucifer Lucifer, dawn of de morning,
So you niggas change your attitude
For they askin what happened to you

[Verse Two]
Yes
This is Holly war
I wet cha all with the Holly water
Spray from the Hetckler Koch auto
Matic all the static shall cease to exist
Like a sematical i throw a couple at you
Take six
Spread love to all of my dead thugs
I'll pour out a little Louie til i head above
Yes Sir
And when i perish
The meek shall inherit the earth
Until that time it's on a poppin Church
Like Don Bishop
The fifth upon cock either
Lift up your soul or give the Holly ghost please
I leave ya in somebodys Catedrial
And stuntin like Evil Kenevil
I'll let you see where that bright light lead you
The more you talk the more you irkin us
The more you gonna need memorial services
The Black Albums second verse is like
Devil's Pie please save some dessert for us

Man i gotta get my soul right
I gotta get these Devils out my life
These cowards gonna make a nigga ride
They won't be happy til somebody dies

Man i gotta get my soul right
'For i'm locked up for my whole life
Evertime it seems it's all right
Somebody want they soul to rise
(I'll chase you off of this Earth)

[Verse Three]
I got dreams of holdin a Nine milla
To Bobs killa
Askin him "why?" as my eyes fill up
These days i can't wake up with a dry pillow
Gone but not forgotten holmes i still feel ya
SO, Curse the day that birthed the bastard
Who caused your Church mass
Reverse the crash
Reverse the blast
And reverse the car
Reverse the day, and there you are
Bob Allah
Lord forgive him we all have sined
But Bobs a good dude please let him in
And if you feel in my heart that i long for revenge
Please blame it on the sun of the mournin
Thanks Again

We ourself don't have the power to stop listening to this music, but in Christ we Can do anything.
If you just pray sincerely everything will work out. You just need to have faith.

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

I'm really really happy for the people who's eyes and ears are now opened.

Praise His wonderfull name.

PS: about the song of Jay-Z

It's not the song on the Black album, but the mixtape called the Grey Album

Jou just download the track from the grey album (Track 11 - Interlude) record it with your windows xp sound recorder

Choose Effects from the main menu --> Reverse Voila

It must be said that the original song is sampled.

What I want to know is why is it only Christians who are protesting and calling Craig Lewis Lies,  I don't recall any other mainstream Hip Hop artist other than KRS-One protesting this man.  Please ask yourself why?  Also for those that don't know Hip Hop is a Religion.  Please Check out the website http://www.templeofhiphop.org, even the secular artist admit to hip hop and its origins being a Religion.  The point that Craig Lewis is trying to make is this, examine yourself.  As Christians we are required to follow Christ.  This means we must submit to Gods will.  We must deny ourselves and pick up the cross and follow Christ.  People, the only thing that is going to get us into heaven is having a relationship with Christ.  We must accept him as who he is and believe in our heart of hearts that he is the true savior of man.  There is no action by any man women or child that will get you into heaven.  It is by Gods Grace that we are saved.  Let us not forget this.  Does the music you listen to align itself with your God.  This is a yes and no question.  Either it does or does not.  You have to make that decision.  Not Craig Lewis, not KRS-One, not 50-cent, not Jay-z or any other Hip Hop/R&B/Gospel artist.  I have made the decision for myself that this music does not and therefore I don't listen to it anymore.

Re: "The Sad Truth About Hip Hop" <chain letter> by magneto(m): 2:42pm On Feb 07, 2007
well well, i've just read thru everything on this thread, and i find it quite interesting. most of what y'all (free, drea and co) been saying are very true. SOME hiphop lyrics and implied messages or subliminals actually encourage evil, directly or indirectly. so its left for US die hard hiphop heads to "discern" and "filter" what we listen to, cos it could stain our subconscious and affect our lives consequently.

BUT. . . saying that HipHop is a propaganda from satan is totally ridiculous. agreed he can use hiphop. but so can God too. so please y'all should not condemn hiphop but those artists, cos their lyrics are an expression of their minds. i can flow gospel or conscious on a hardcore, banging beat, and still not glorify satan or evil. i can talk about stuff that happen in my country everyday, like corruption, thuggery, prostitution, exam malpractise, poverty, and so on with a view to highlight its disadvantages and profer solutions and still not propagate evil.

hope y'all understand where i'm coming from. nice thread tho'. 1!

Wow, I m loving dis because the spirit of God motivates me to keep checking back at this site and I m glad because I’m just sharing as the holy spirit leads me,

All those that have decided to completely not listen to music or break I pods, Bless you, cause as you can see, the majority wont see any sense or purpose in that, let God continue to lead you,

When we say God can use hip hop, can he use pornography, prostitutes or pimps:
1) No because these were all manifested from sin- sin of self worship and self praise
2) You cannot separate Hip Hop from the culture it has inhabited - Hip Hop and the culture that has been generated are intertwined and became one
So God will not use Hip Hop because Hip Hop is a culture that thrives off of a lifestyle that is defiant and rebellious (rebellion is a form of witchcraft in the bible) to society and speaks of oppression and poverty as something only the culture can remedy (through upliftment, empowerment, etc

In the process of acknowledging that Jesus Christ is your personal saviour,
The bible says come as you are, but as the holy spirit is within you, and your learning and growing in the word, any man in Christ will be a new creature, there will be a renewing of your mind, think of it as the process of you being educated at school, the more you learn and become involved in your learning, your understanding becomes evolved, your writing and grammar expands, depth of knowledge will increase , there is a renewing of mind, you have learned what you did not know before, and that will be reflected in your speech, your conversations, your tone, depending on what was learned

Again I don’t know how you decipher which Hip Hop songs are good or bad, but if you are basing it off your own judgment/understanding I can guarantee that the Holy Spirit can do a better job at that, (on a side note) How hard is it to trust in Jesus, you have never seen him or talked to him, he’s a stranger, , that is the faith that us Christians proclaim, and it provides great salvation and peace, that is why we are able to break I pod's and throw away hundreds of dollars worth of CDS in the garbage.

Magneto, I like how you think really I do, you look into reason and basis your analysis off what you read pulling out the truth where it makes sense and touching on things that doesn’t make sense.
I will see if I can touch on some things to clarify:
Satan will use anything as a means to gain your worship and take it away from God. Think of Satan as a dirty fighter, a person that will take sand and throw it in your eyes, or hide a rock in his pocket so he can use it as a weapon later. Satan doesn’t play fair, in the bible it says that he walks as a roaring lion walking about, seeking whom he may devour.  (watch the animal channel, and watch how lions catch their prey, very sneak, but always calculated)
Your intentions can be influence by God or the devil, it’s that easy, there is no such thing as in-between, profer solutions and still not propagate evil, how do you really do that,  (if the solution aint Christ then there is a huge problem)

Last Thing then I’m out till next time, what is being discussed in Hip Hop can be said about any genre of music, will I defend any particular artist, NO, why because what I pray and ask for is a divine plan for my life, that will look much different for you with your conversation with the father. So I encourage you to start from there, Always keep in mind that this is a spiritual battle. God will not over ride your will, so if your will is to make your own decision on what you want and what your going to do then that is going to be the case. You can always ask that his will, be yours, and that's where I can guide you,

Thanks all, your beautiful
drea

Anyone who actually believes this is pathetic. If you're going to sit around all day playing songs backwards you either need to get a life, or are a complete idiot. Hey Kaydee
I m glad you have received God's truth,

I would hope that anyone that takes the time to comment, would invest the same time to watch the movie, it is very easy to take something out of context if you are missing main pieces to uderstanding the topic,

I cannot convince you of the faith I have in Jesus Christ, there is no scientifical equation, it is what it is FAITH

I am sorry for those who feel that this topic is too racey, judgemental and intolerable because I choose to acknowledge sin and righteousness, heaven and hell, life or death. Our society has decided to ignored the moral decay of our world and when we as Christians say why we as a society have fallen, we are told that we are judgemental and harsh.

I am not judgemental or intolerable, I chose to communicate to you the word of God, in truth and in love. It may hurt but you have the free will to listen or not, but telling me I am judgemental and intolerable because of a truth I have revealled to you seems a bit

Example: If you eat foods that are high in salt and sugar intake, you are prone to be overweight, develop a type of diabietes, or have serious medical/health compications

Example: It is necessary in order to maintain our relationship with Christ, to have a relationship with him, practicing holyness, self control, love, etc

Is there intolerance in one statement over the other or neither because none of those statements hits close to home, but anything that may bring to light or hold me or you accountable becomes intolerable and judgemental?

Anyone who actually beleive this is pathetic (that sounds pretty judgemental to me)
If you're going to sit around all day, you either need to get a life or a complete idiot (judgemental and intolerable, beause the author shoud know that this movie was based off a documentary that was trying to prove the hidden message and the spiritual downfall of listening to music i.e. reference to the hidden/not so hidden msgs communicated in song lyrics, titles, etc)

Again being compelled to comment is one thing, understanding is another

First of all, most hip hop artists are people. Yes, people, like you and me. They are not evil, and trust me, they do not care what you do with your life. They do not want to influence you with "Hidden messages". Got it?

Second of all, documentaries are not always fact. Please, do the entire world a favor, and stop believing everything you see/hear. Still with me?

Third, I can play anything backwards and find a "Hidden message".

Fourth, believe it or not, you [/i]are[i] being intolerant and judgemental, not to mention paranoid. Nobody wants to hurt you, okay?

Please, don't try to influence people's opinions, leave it up to a more unbiased person.

@drea:

blah blah blah. . . .HipHop is evil. . . .blah blah blah. . . .the culture is evil. . . .blah blah blah. Perhaps when posting this, you forgot to mention other genres of music. Hell, we can as well say Rock, R'n'B, Blues, Jazz, Pop, Classical, Reggae, Dancehall, Afrobeat, Techno are all evil since some of their musicians use crude language and talk blasphemy at times. Nonsense!

One thing those that do "research" against HipHop as a music form forget (or probably have selective amnesia about) is that music itself is a form of expression, and the framework of every form/genre of music is the message it passes across, but the blueprint of that framework is self-expression!

Taking that into perspective, HipHop is neither evil nor good, it's the blueprint that can be used for either of the two!!

So when i hear people like drea get judgemental and conclusive and say HipHop is evil and all that BS, one can't help but beg the question of why everyone, we Christians to be exact, must take the word of a preacher or some "documentary" hook, line and sinker??
