Go for engineering, you will also fit for computer science interview / job, where ever there's vacancy for software engineers you can also apply. but if you do computer science, if there's a job for engineers my brother don't come close.

Honestly, I sometimes laugh when I come across comments like that. The world today is almost completely ICT-driven and key to this is the software development experts.

When people say ICT will soon take over from oil, quite a number don't really understand the concept as it is obviously too deep. In summary, the need for the oil itself becomes dramatically reduced due to ease of things brought about by ICT. Abeg, I no fit shout.

...The school is just meant to guide you, there is little the school can offer, it all depends on you.!
In my class, only 5 people understands when its time for programming, you know why because we do our home work...
We read, we learn, we practice, and we never get tired of asking questions.!

That's exactly what I'm saying, studying computer engineering or computer science in Nigeria public university is a scam.unless you go out and work on yourself, get the certificate but don't limit yourself.

The Institute? Haaa!!
I vividly remember when we were introduced to Visual Basic, Its quite funny when the lecturer won't come to class, but I believe as a student you are suppose to be better than your Lecturer, But if you depend on your Institute then brother you are far from right.!!!
Even across the borders of Nigeria, the professor can only so much, you are the one to push yourself to the extreme.!!

My career path has nothing to do with 'Nigerian' system of higher institution. So I have no business wasting 4 years.

If you're career path demands higher institution, I won't discourage you.
If you must studies either of those courses in Nigeria, make sure you enroll in any ICT training centre... that's the only way you won't regret.... still pay for some premium tutorials on either side of the courses on:
Skillshare. com
Udemy. com
Lynda. com
or still sort for good tutorials on YouTube

If you dedicate your time and money on those site, what you'll learn in just 3 months is 10x far better than what you'll learn in Nigeria Higher institution.

To your question, I'm a graphics designer. it's been my passion since JSS days.

I fail to agree with you at this point, truth be told, Most computer science students don't even know why they are studying that course but in some institute they are some legit lecturers, my lecturer that took us Java was damned good, he has even written a number of apps available in google playstore and is one of the big boys among his peers.!! In his masters he wrote a smart program that analyzes cause of accident,Record time, video display, and so many things am still yet to understand.!!

So, the school ain't scam, its just the students...
What do you expect when you hear students say, "Last, Last nah La cram La pour" craming a Program.??

Oga I have met a lot of computer science and computer engineering student, students who can't even fix minor issues in computer or even write a programming language.

Do you even know that as a computer engineer you should know how to write a programming language too?

You think engineering is just about repairing? If you can't build or even design a PCB you shouldn't call yourself a computer engineer.

Nigerian public university don't have these equipment or probably lecturers that can put these things into practical.
You call this gibberish? Well that's your opinion.

Most of the engineers you see or computer science student didn't learn almost all the things they are doing now in school, some learn programming on their own , so many things on their own that's why I said anything engineering is a scam apart from civil engineering.

Have you watch some DIY videos on YouTube, where you see real engineers building little machines ,show me how many Nigerians can do such,do they even have the money to buy tools?

In this country we deal mostly on theory and the truth is sometimes what you have in theory might not be 100% applicable or let me say correlate with what you will see in practical aspect.
That's why some schools should do more practical than theory.

Computer Engineering is a specialised aspect of Electrical/Electronics engineering. It focuses on the engineering of computer hardwares and how it interacts with computer softwares where as computer science is about the softwares basically..i.e. software design and operation.
Thank you my dear
Basically it's the relationship between Electrical/Electronics as it interferes with software and hardware

my brother you are just lucky to have found a good lecturer, that can't be said for most other institutions, read all the comments most people are advising the op to study outside d country or seriously put more effort studying on his own because majority of our uni's here can't take you anywhere.

It is still reliant on the institute. Everywhere looking unkept computers not working, no value culture, copy and paste lecturers etc. Go to foreign universities UK, Canada Australia and their likes, lecturers don't spoon feed well but you don't need to be told to self develop immediately you step your foot in. There's adequate support system and humane environment. But here in Nigeria students study like labourers rather like goal getters
Re: Computer Science And Computer Engineering: What Are The Differences? by JusticeSeeker: 8:24am On Oct 07, 2019
Boy, many Nigerians and laymen world over just like you don't know the difference between these two noble professions as I can decipher from the various comments above. Now listen, the primary goal of a computer scientist is to develop or validate Computing models (mathematical designs that can be coded or programmed). They also describe the properties of computer-based systems (processors, programs, computers interacting with people, computers interacting with other computers, etc.) with the primary objective of unleashing products designed to yield useful benefits in terms of speed, miniaturization, affordable, and problem-solving, etc.).

While the Computer Engineer is trained to take on tasks involving software development(coding or programming to implement the model(s) designed by the computer scientist) and firmware(software that control the brains of many computerised devices) for embedded microcontrollers, designing VLSI chips, designing analog sensors, designing mixed signal circuit boards, and designing operating systems. Computer engineers are also suited for robotics research, which relies heavily on using digital systems to control and monitor electrical systems like motors, communications, and sensors. The Computer Scientist develops computing theories and designs models that are computable (He may know how to write software or not, but he will be all right if he can design or twerk models to be productive) while the engineers comes in to see how he can implement the specifications of the computer scientist and on which machine and what component of the machine can do the implementation.

No! In this day and age 2 out of 5 people can operate a computer to its barest minimum but what about a computer engineering student that can't even fix a RAM to the motherboard let alone build a PC
Or a computer science student that can't even write a Basic programme.
You really don't need to go to a university to be a computer science or engineering expert and that's the truth but there are thousands of professional courses that give good certifications and recognition it just takes time and extreme dedication.
If you really do need the degree then go to Private University.
My friend why don't you go for Information technology or Data management courses, because Data is now the new gold ask Facebook and Google.
Computer science cover those courses you mentioned

A Computer science degree won't make you a programmer. At the end of the four or five years you'll have a fancy cert. Computer science has more swag than comp eng... more job prospect if you can find it.

I tell a lot of young chaps who want to study comp sci this: read math, physics, industrial math, philosophy, biz admin - even literature for first degree. Graduate with 2nd class upper - first class with the easy course. On the side, breaks enroll in a prof programming bootcamp or center and jobs will pursue you.

Unfortunately, because of familial or course prestige reasons they come back after 5 years and tell me - bros, what you said is true. I wish I had...
