My opinion based on what was said grin
Re: Best Dancers! (friendly Rivalry) by kony1(m): 7:21pm On Oct 03, 2011
what was said? Her whole argument is based off the assumption that i give caribbeans zero credit. I never said that. Im simply saying that they're no as influentioal, overall, as americans. Which is true.

Just look at this thread alone. The only thing she can show is random jamaicans doing dances. She has no gregory hines, janet jacksons, ushers, chris browns, michael jacksons to show me. You see the difference right there

What have you done to discount or prove my argument was wrong. I said blacks were more influential than jamaicans. You have done absolutely nothing to disprove that. Your argument is based on if caribbeans have any influence at all. Im not arguing that, thats not what im saying. You have yet to show a dance or dancers that are relevant to global pop culture outside certain interest groups. Whose a jamo dancer or dance that everybody knows?

Im curious is there more to a'lot of those dances than just shaking your @ss and gyrating your hips in a sexually suggestive motion? I see no technique, skill or sophistication with alot of the dances your posting. One has to have some volume of estrogen just to do that ish lol

Kony fuuq off.

Americans grind and gyrate just as much as we do.
your stepping, krumping etc is no different and infact look more African than they
do "American". Like I said before everything Americans do is the result of some foreign
influence you all are not called AFRICAN Americans for no reason. America would NOT be America
without immigrants bringing in their influences. Jamaicans are NO exceptions  cool. I've not only shown AAs
and celebrities doing Jamaican dance renditions but also fans from all over. Not even ALL just a sample tongue
yet you complain. Even on HIP HOP shows they STILL always dedicate a segment to dance hall!  cheesy
Step off and just post videos.

I post what I feel to do because I can. You have no respect for different ppl's cultures and I refuse
to continue any debate with a close minded person like you. Keep posting the same dance move
videos  tongue and I WILL do me. Anything you say henceforth will be ignored as I will only end up repeating myself.

Re: Best Dancers! (friendly Rivalry) by kony1(m): 8:29pm On Oct 04, 2011
Krumping sucks. So we dont even have to go there . And how is stepping african? Black people need to stop trying to connect every little theng they do to africa. No matter how farfetched it may sound. BLACK-American dance and music are distinctively AMERICAN. I dont know about you jamos. Our americaness actually pisses some black americans off believe it or not. So you will have certain americans implementing "ethnicity"(africa) in any aspect of our culture that they can. Even if its false

As far as jamo dancing. What you've been showing me so far confirms my assessment . Jamaican dance is a female thing. Not all of it, but most of it is and depends on the dancer having a dosage of estrogen

^^ EXCELLENT VIDEOS NAKAL   cheesy

African influence is exhibited strongly in latin and caribbean cultures.
although it is watered down and remixed, it is still VERY evident and it's a beautiful thing.  smiley

Soukous and Semba is very popular in west indian countries in south america because
there are a lot of Portuguese and french speaking Africans who have traveled west and
introduced the music style to the people on top of the music they've inherited from their African
ancestors. That is why when a certain person tried to tell me PRs are "latin"  tongue i had to laugh because
without west and central Africa, Caribbean and Latin cultures (which are the same) would be mad boring  tongue and
virtually non-existent.  smiley Same histories and same blood. smiley

Another thing is the Non Afro Latinos are adament that Shakira's rendition of the Cameroonian hit
"Waka Time for Africa" (i THINK that is the title lol) is native to colombia but they fail to realize or mention
as I stated before that west africans brought the track to colombian djs in the 1980s.  smiley

Anyway thanks again for posting the videos. smiley

Its nice to see someone paying attention to our similarities.  I think most popular dance moves can be traced back to Africa but the Caribbeans and African Americans have re-interpreted and modernised them to the extent that many young Africans now copy them.

Theres nothing remotely watered down or commercial about black entertainment. Most of our dances come from the street and are completely "original". Hence its popularity in the first place. African and caribbean dance are more tribal in comparison, doesnt mean its more "original" lol

Absolutely.
In everything it's been remixed in the states. America is not just a melting pot interracially speaking but also within the races. African American culture is no exception. Doug E Fresh was born in Barbados for instance and his superior beat boxing skills are definitely attributed to his cultural roots in the caribbean where drum beats and rhythm syles brought in from Africa is evident and highly influential.  smiley From music to dance, American black culture is a fusion and mix of all black ethnicities. A lot of black Americans have this 'superiority' mentality and end up shocked when their activists, actors, musicians, dancers; etc are actually Caribbean and/or African in origin. The ability for Africans and Caribbeans to assimilate to the American way is largely due to our similarities as a race as opposed to our differences. This is undeniable.

The beatbox in the context of hip hop, like almost everything else, started in the states. Doug e fresh got his skills from harlem not barbados lol.

The dominating black culture in the us stems from the descendants of slaves here in the US. Most political, social, civil rights cultural etc figures are american descendants of slaves. Sure you have so called "caribbeans" here and there. But the fact is the overwhelming majority are americans. And americans are more relevant period

Most that were successful anyway completley absorbed themselves into african american culture anyway. Just like obama

From harriet tubman to mlk and all the americans inbetween- carribeans are not on our level
