Akpuoru: Love this, am not even good in related maths subject, but if I get you right, make I kuku ma drink am(alcoholic), once drank, it's just a matter of time, I shall be intoxicated. That means, if I want to be intoxicated in the next two hours, mixture is allowed. Smile....that's nice. Lol I will drink in the morning, and be intoxicated in the afternoon. Very peaceful! 1 Like |

Oluwadamilare118:That is the percentage per unit volume. Or concentration, in chemistry term. If you dilute it, what you get is reduced concentration but the alcoholic content remains intact. E.g. dissolve 10 cubes of sugar in 100 ml of water. Also dissolve same 10 cubes in 1 litre of water. The 100ml sugar solution is sweeter than the 1 litre sugar solution but that doesn't change the fact that you have taken 10 cubes of sugar if you drink either of them completely. 1 Like |

Jh0wsef:you don't get it. It dilutes the alcohol, if you mix 1 bottle of fanta and 1 beer the tipsyness with only 1 beer won't be the same. |

Simplyleo:This is not true. Chemical reactions mean that something can change from one state to another. If a diluted drink can no longer make you as tipsy then it is not that same drink. If you were to write the equation for the reaction would the reactants not be different from the products? A change in the number of molecules affects the molecular structure, meaning that the what you have is actually something else. That's why your sugar drink will be less sweet when you add too much water. Water is a chemical too. By adding water you have initiated a chemical reaction between the molecules of sugar and H20. What you get is not exactly the same. It cannot be the same. Change is chemical structure effects a change in physical properties; in this case taste. 1 Like |

Adding soft drink maintains the concentration of the alcohol content, but reduced the binding frequency for metabolism. Hence less alcohol binds to the alcohol dehydrogenase enzyme per time, compared to taking it alone, binding is fast and direct! |

Surely it changes the alcohol content. Alcohol effect depends on its concentration in the consumed volume. It's like sugar and salt. The effect on the body is reduced when it is diluted. when you mix alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks, the alcohol is diluted and its concentration is reduced. That's why you can drink more volume of jack daniel by mixing with coke. |

All of u saying it only makes it easier to drink or change d taste are wrong let me explain why. We all know conc H2SO4 is acid and if u pour it on ur body is will burn or damage ur skin but when you add water to it it makes it an aq (aqueous solution) and if u pure this new solvent on ur body it might burn ur skin but on a much slower rate dan the conc H2SO4, same goes for d alcohol once u add water or a non alcoholic drink to it it actually reduces d potency of d alcohol and u will get tipy or drunk at a much slower pace dan when u take d alcohol straight. |

urchcoded:LMAO. I'm sure you didn't go through the four walls of a proper secondary school. But I take no offense. I'll educate you for free. See below an analogy from another nairalander. I hope your brain can comprehend this. If you need further explanation, please quote me again (with or without insults) and I'll gladly remove ignorance forever from your life. Mathematically C1 = 30% = 0.3 V1 = 100ml V2 = 100ml + 100ml( beverage of zero conc.) = 200ml C2 = ? Solution: C1V1 = C2V2 0.3× 100 = C2 × 200 C2 = 0.3×100÷ 200 C2 = 0.15= 15% Therefore, the alcoholic concentration has reduced by half upon addition of a 100ml beverage of zero concentration. |

magicfingers009: I'm glad u know ur serial dilution formula, but in analytical chemistry after calculations u need sense to draw ur inference. The 30% in ur beverage is 30ml. Of undiluted ethanol made up to 100ml with ur beverage, so even if u dilute the drink and consume the whole of the diluted drink u've still consumed dat 30%= 30ml of absolute ethanol. So dat 30% will still work on u no worry. However the rate of reaction inside ur body will be altered simply because ur system is more hydrated. Funny enough u can still see it this way cos it's the same tin. U buy one beer and one fanta u drink d beer first, den drink the fanta immediately after. Have u reduced d concentration of the beer? I have no problem with ur calculation cos it's very correct. But bro no be every thing be maths. We too cram for this country. |
