Sincerely speaking, Toyota really fumbled. Until they retrace their step... with this new Hyundai development and the emergence of Innoson Motors. A very tight competition is on the way and I can forsee a very tough time for Toyota in coming days. Spare parts of Hyundai would now be available at a cheaper price. Govt can officially make only those cars manufactured in Nigeria govt officials cars. Then, the case is settled. 2 Likes |

You are right, competition is good. But, I think Govt should have created some incentives for our local manufacturers like Innoson before bringing in a giant. With the reality on the ground, there is no way Innoson can compete with this multi-billion dollar company. Hyundai will make all replica of Innoson cars if they don't have already, crash the price mercilessly and this could be the end of our dear brother who loves his country so much. Do you think these Asians truly groom? Will they employ qualified Nigerians to critical positions that can make them learn how things work? Well, they may but their track records in this country dispute that. UnitedNigeriaUN: |

ColonelEmeka: I'm not rejoicing yet, and yes, I am no wailer....GEJ is a joke as far as I am concerned. … but..problems dey 1.The electricity issue is a serious one...which is a big part of why the cheapest Innoson car costs N7Million 2.A successful car industry relies heavily on small scale manufacturers who would manufacture the tiny bits of components that go into the car eg engine parts, lights, etc etc. Nigeria does not have those type of manufacturers...which means everything would be brought from abroad...which means a Nigerian Hyundai would be very very expensive.(Again that is part of why Innoson cars are very expensive) 3.Security...which is very very important. Since Nigeria is not a secure nation...that adds to the cost of manufacturing. 4.Unless Hyundai is going to get forex at extremely cheap rates...it would be very difficult to import the components needed for assembly 5.Employment....not very much. At best IMO...Hyundai would probably employ 5000 people...if not less. Our unemployment is in the millions. Problems dey. Note...we have been there before. VON and PAN came in 1972//3...and by 1993, were at all time lows. The video below shows an example of no 2...small factories in Japan (which is one of the world's largest automotive manufacturers by volume). We don't have those factories in Nigeria. That's why manufacturing cars has been difficult in Nigeria. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYzQNgIwqgo 1 Like 1 Share |

saajus: You're right! Hyundai is reputable and richer than Innoson, but we need to see the bigger picture. Innoson will definitely survive, Innoson will definitely become the chief influence of the future Nigerian Automobile companies. You might not understand this until reality set. God bless you for your Love for Nigeria & Nigerians. God bless you for being an advocate for #MadeInNigeria. Blessings! |
