Every transport lines should account for their consumers or customers security and welfare..

Yeah right. Easy for you to say. How is a transport company supposed to protect passengers from kidnappers. That should be the duty of the government, Federal mainly, and States to some extent. I think the company tried by offering to pay half of the ransom. The poster, I feel, is being unreasonable.

@op,I think we should hold the government responsible for the insecurity on our highways. There is very little GUO motor or any other transporter for that matter can do in such situations.Even private motorist are waylaid and kidnapped on our highways.

Exactly. The op, like most Nigerians, is being unreasonable.

I have a friend as a staff of one of the biggest transport lines which I won't like to mention, he said insurance covers both the drivers and the passengers but the companies are just being negligent

How are the companies being negligent? Are they responsible for the increased insecurity on our roads? Does the insurance cover for payment of ransom in kidnap cases (I doubt)?

If public transport convey for 5k, private transportation companies goes for 8k, .. If u know u know cos i can't type much

Which one is public transport and which is private transport? Do you expect the transport companies, whether public or private, to take up the responsibility of paying for ransom when passengers are kidnapped?

These companies have an obligation to their passengers. There is a standard insurance package, and passengers can purchase extra insurance as part of the fare. Going forward, the transport company will lose on all grounds.

You should set up a transport company to practice what you preach. If your company will be paying the ransom when your passengers are kidnapped, I am sure your company will be getting almost all the passengers on your company's routes. And we'll see how long you'll remain in business.

For once I agree with you. The company themselves are victims as much as passengers.

Exactly. I wonder how anybody will be blaming a transport company whose vehicle, driver, and passengers are kidnapped. And the company even offered to pay half of the ransom. Nigerians and their irrational mindset.

People mentioning insurance, I hope you know insurance is specific.

Passengers are usually insured against motor/vehicular accident and the total payout for treatment/compensation is rarely above 100k.

If the insurance contract does not cover kidnapping, there's nothing the insurance company can do.

As it is, no insurance company would insure against kidnapping. Just the same way they all refuse to sell insurance cover against herdsmen to farmers

These Transport companies are all the same, putting passengers lives at risk without remorse. If I were you, i won't waste my time doing all youve done already, from the moment I sense their nonchalant attitude towards the lives of passengers that boarded their Bus of which A manifest was made available before their departure to their various destinations, I will give them 48 hours to go to the police so as a to rescue the kidnap victims as well as pay for damages for putting passengers lives at risk with sympathy, I bring a legal action against them worth 25 Billion naira, seeing the amount alone, they will seek for out of court settlement. What nonsense!! They should try that with me and see what happens afterwards.

You are just ranting. Just pray that you or a relative of yours don't fall into the hands of kidnappers. You want to sue a transport company whose driver and passengers were kidnapped, together with their vehicle, and which offered to pay half the ransom?
If you need to sue, your lawsuit should be directed towards the Federal government, and the appropriate State government. It is their duty to provide security for all of us.
The transport company should have been forthcoming with information for the affected families though. They need to work on their customer service.

Why is everyone using boeing for the 2 air crashes

Because the "2 air crashes" might have been caused by a fault in the airplanes produced by Boeing.
In this case, did GUO Transport cause their vehicle to be seized by kidnappers?

Since the youths have decided not to do any work, they obtain money through fraudulent means even if it meant taking another person's life.

Govt no kuku care, the only thing to remedy this, those transport companies should use heavily fortified vehicles with ammo embedded.... Guns should also be on board.
I can't say more than this

I hope you will be happy to pay much higher transport fares then?

Same GUO transport company that wasted their passengers after colliding with a PMT bus 2 weeks ago along Benin ore highway, but claimed it was only the driver in the front that died while 2 others sustained injuries? Any accident resulting in the death of a driver must be a ghastly one, which could also have killed the passenger in the front seat...but they told Nigerians lies that only the driver died when the eyewitness reported that 18 passengers lost their lives in the 2 buses.

I'm disappointed as them. I used to see them as an alternative to GIG which is on the verge of folding up but I was wrong

Nigeria is a very difficult terrain to do business. It is a jungle. We have to appreciate that and not pretend that we are in a developed or civilized environment.

Some of these drivers and the office staffs now work in tandem with the kidnappers. We have heard of cases of the office staffs communicating details of the travel and bus movement to kidnappers. God will continue to deliver us from evil people.

The transport company did badly with their attitude which is why the situation escalated.

It was them who were supposed to call the police and not the independent relatives.

Transport companies are supposed to have an administrative arm that deals with emergencies.

So you were right to hold them responsible but unrealistic not to pursue an alternative pathway when you realised how lackadaisical they were being.

If they had called you and said "the passengers have been kidnapped and we are currently working with the police; please come for an emergency meeting so we can discuss further" instead of being cagey when you reached the office, it could have been different.

If they didnt collaborate with anybody to hijack their own bus, why were they hiding and concealing with Igbo

Remember that you only heard one side of the story. You did not hear the company's side.

People are hailing you.

I usually try to read your posts impartially; on this one I would say you are half right.

He should have gotten in touch with the police sooner in a double-pronged approach with the "Press" stuff.

But youre wrong to remove blame from GUO; nobody is asking them to fork out millions but they should at least be decent when dealing with distraught relatives.

The way they tried to dismiss him was the reason he started all the television stuff so blaming him for his response is unfair.

You say "nobody is asking them to fork out millions"? But the op expected them to pay the whole ransom. Customer service was poor. But that is a Nigerian thing. It's rare to meet a polite Nigerian.

We had his thanksgiving this last Sunday.

Really? And GUO is claiming that the incident did not happen? This is serious.

Come on! There is something called "general" vs "specific" or "collective responsibility" vs "individual responsibility"

So because of bad governance you should sit back and allow your customer to be hacked to death by a bunch of lunatics? Youre not serious at all

So GUO should have armed themselves and go face the kidnappers? Your inept government, both Federal and State are to blame for the insecurity on our roads. The transport companies are not the problem. Nigerians are generally unreasonable and usually unwilling to lay the blame at the appropriate entity.

You are really not serious; stop twisting my posts to suit your warped agenda. The incompetence of the government and the conduct of the individual transport company are two different issues.

You are being a hypocrite. See how youre ready to jump to the defence of the transport company for their rude and uncooperative behaviour by making excuses and calling their bad customer service a "Nigerian thing" yet you want to hold the government to a high standard. Good! So by extension, insecurity and sorry roads are also a "Nigerian thing", nobody should take responsibility for anything and everybody should go and sit down.

Let me ask you; who was the first point of contact in the story? The transport company who couldnt account for a paying customer or the abstract entity that is the "Nigerian government"?

You cant shift your personal responsibility to your customers to the "government". The government didnt write policies telling you to be rude to people did they

Next time you or your relative goes for medical treatment and the staff are messing up, I hope you maintain your "socialism" and allow them to finish you?

When a bus conductor gives you the wrong change I hope you'll let him cheat you? I hope you never have any argument or disagreement with anybody ever again?

Because after all, everything is the governments fault; even basic human interactions should be monitored by the government smh youre not serious at all

You really don't understand what owning a business means. Just travel outside this country to the western world and see for yourself. Try open a small business. Company make losses and profits, some go bankrupt. Every company must have a plan to mitigate potential risks.

Nigeria is a very difficult terrain to do business. It is a jungle. We have to appreciate that and not pretend that we are in a developed or civilized environment.
No place in earth is juicy to do business. Adaptation is very key. Nigeria is even much better with the kind of tax system in place. I'm an entrepreneur so I can tell. The GIG's case is different. The most senior son put his hands into so many things.

He went and opened a petrol retail business called Zeus all over, established a real estate company in america with other investments same time, leaving the cash cow which was the transport business unattended. No new buses were added, the existing ones weren't maintained. My staff and I travel with them alot especially to places where there's no flight or whenever we feel like traveling by road. In fact, we've been patronising them , since 2011. You can imagine their bus breaking down severally before reaching our destination. It has become a norm now. Their good drivers are leaving , staff too. The last time I boarded their bus from owerri to lagos, the bus was without an AC. While the likes of GUO were buying more durable toyota buses, the guy went and bought a prototype of benz sprinter from china. They breaking down already in less than a year. L'oba tan.

I think its Africa thing. We lack good business orientation and strategy. If it's a pin that oyinbos are producing they would develop and expand it instead of being a Jack of all trades because others too are doing same. That's why african businesses hardly span 50 years before folding up and if care isn't taking, GIG too would soon be a forgotten issue, now that the wife of the owner too is no more. The son no get sense at all.
