A 13-year-old girl has fallen pregnant with a 10-year-old boy's baby, it has been reported.

The girl, from Russia, who has not been named, is seven weeks pregnant, according to local media.

The young couple have also both set their marital status to 'civil partnership' on social media.

Both the teen and her family are reportedly happy to keep the baby.

However, reports claim the girl's family is being probed by the local social services because the teen's mother has terminal cancer and there are concerns over who will look after the children.

The boy, said to be the father, is in fourth grade at school.

However, paediatrician Nikolai Skorobogatov told KRSK that, while it was theoretically possible that a 10-year-old boy could father a child, the case was "doubtful, fifty-fifty" and he suggested the boy could have been blamed without actually being the father.

The reports in KRSK suggested the girl has had multiple partners.

Mr Skorobogatov said a simple test would prove who was the father.

But he warned the case was "alarming" and the situation should only be judged when specialists have studied all the circumstances.

KRSK interviewed the director of the girl's school, who told them staff are doing everything they can to assist the pregnant student.

Other reports suggest the girl and the boy live near each other in a block of flats.

In a statement local police said: "On January 13, 2020, the police received information from doctors of the Federal State Budget Healthcare Institution KB No. 51 of the city of Zheleznogorsk that a 13-year-old schoolgirl was pregnant.

"The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Krasnoyarsk Territory and the Republic of Khakassia have launched an investigation and a decision will follow."
