They are from diverse ethnic backgrounds because their territory lies at the intersection of several Empires/Kingdoms and different cultures e.g Bini, Esan, Nri(Igbo), Igala and distantly Yoruba.

Historians has just arrived.

Distantly yorubas....Mr history.

Well it is okay....Aniomas are yorubas.

Case closed.

What concern the Yorubas in this matter? Why bringing Yorubas into this discussion?
Almost all Yoruba don't even know that thing called Anioma exist.

Ask any random Yoruba guy on the street of Epe,Shagamu, Ogbomosho or Ikire about Anioma and you will be see that nearly all of them haven't heard the term 'Anioma' before.

Ikechunna:

You're wasting your time with people like that. Some SE Igbos are as guilty as Yorubas on insulting Anioma for no reason. Funny thing niggas like that feel like they have the authority to tell ppl what's their identify. We don't need SE to validate us on igbo identity. Y'all aren't the fathers of igbo. Therefore, ignore niggas like that. They aren't worth the energy

Did you even comprehend what I wrote?

I said their territory lies at the intersection of many Empires/Kingdoms and cultures.

There are many Aniomas who traced their Origins to Igbo, Esan, Bini and Igala people which all share borders with Anioma. Few clans trace their Origins to the Yorubas (The Olukumis).

It's left for the Anioma people to define who they are. . . it's a free world.

They already said they are not Igbos.

So obviously they are Binis, Esans, Igalas and Yorubas...

So I am still on same page with you.

.Excuse me sir, what exactly do you want to gain by suggesting that 'the voices of those who don't identify (wrongly constructed as 'denials' as Igbos be muted'?

1) Do you honestly believe all these people like Dr Ojeih and others are truly Igbos in origin but deliberately deny it and declared that they are from Bini and Igala or that they are a unique tribe called Anioma?

2) Why are so many (especially the young) Igbos always annoyed whenever the identity of the Aniomas and Ikwerres are being discussed?

maestroferddi:
Just like I said, let it slide...

I know it can be exasperating seeing someone being patronizing about their Igboness

One dares to assert that if the cultural identity of the 'Igbo acceptors' among the Aniomas is something they value and hold in high esteem, then they would rise above their cavalier attitude to ensure that the voice/noise of 'the deniers"are muted unlike what we are witnessing now.

We need something above the lukewarm claim to Igboness...

The Igbos have, via the don't of hard work, painstakingly earned themselves a pride of place in the Nigerian national ecosystem so much that these notice-seeking attempts at repudiation is just ridiculous...

The question is why do you always slide in discussions like this?

Even if others read and pass, you must come in with your distant Yoruba analysis

Will this thread grant you Amotekun, if I may ask?

Excuse me Bros.

Is there anything very important about this identity of the Aniomas, going by the ways you guys take it so serious?

If some Aniomas say they are Igbos, what will Igbos gain? If some Aniomas say they aren't Igbos, what will Igbos lose?

obowo69:

Wow i am very disappointed.

I think its time for you to move on. You are doing more damage to the way people see the Aniomas.

Let me tell you something that you need to understand, it shouldn't be the responsibility of south east Igbos to cater to you guys especially considering the fact that you allow the deniers to be the loudest voice amongs you.

If anything, the South East Igbos have been humiliated for the past 50 years and denied by everyone around them. They are beginning to worry about their interest.

Its the Aniomas that should be making more effort (in all Honesty) to rebuild the relationship that they destroyed.

The south East igbos never rejected anyone.

You cannot tell the family of the prodigal son who denied the family to beg the child to come back.

Not necessarily sir.

They can decide to be on their own as a new and unique tribe called Anioma.

Examples of similar tribes that are a fusion of different tribes exist e.g Ogori-Mangogo people in Kogi State.

How can they permanently silence their brethren?

horsepower102:

Yeah I understand your frustration but I think it’s wrong to use one or couple of incidents to judge a whole group.

All we want is for the pro-igbo elements among them to permanently silence the denialist. That’s the only way Igbos can unite and heal.

One curious question though
Why do you write ur reply above a quote instead of below? If u’re quoting someone, then remarks should be after the quote, not before.. That makes for better following of the discussion and timeline.

However, I think it's the design of the Nairaland website that determine (possibly on the size) whether the qoute will be above or below.

Asaba was never part of Biafria sir.

Asaba was part of the Mid-Western Region and the Region that Ojukwu declared as Biafra was the Eastern Region.

pazienza:

Nonsense.
Asaba was not the only town in Biafrans.

They were massacred because the federal Hausa-Fulani troops knew that Nzeogwu was from around the Asaba area. The Asaba massacre was a revenge mission.

You assertions are quite funny sir.

1) Ministers are appointed on STATE basis and NOT on the basis of Tribes. E.g Chief Bayo Ojo was appointed as the AGF and Minister of Justice in 2003 to fill the slot for Kogi State and not because to fill the slot for the Yorubas.

2) Power rotation in Delta State was based on Senatorial District. In 2015, the whole State felt power should should shift to Delta North. It has nothing to do with tribes.

maestroferddi:
I don't even know where I will start in educating you.

You are just blowing hot air without devoting even one-tenth of the time you are expending in making impetuos comments and throwing up tantrums to critical thinking...

Buhari believed he was rewarding an Igboman in appoint Ibe Kachukwu as the Minister of State for Petroleum in 2015...

Neither Kachikwu nor other Igbo deniers put up a public disclaimer denying Igboness then...

In the eyes of most non-Igbo Nigerians, an Igboman was appointed to a sensitive position in government...

Okowa's emergence as the Governor of Delta State was forged on the anvil of allowing power rotate Delta Igbos...that, at least, is how other Deltans saw it...

We can go on and on on how Anioma elements go about operating as Igbos of convenience....

You can sulk all you want but the issue is that someone needs to call you guys out..

Granted there might be pro-Igbo sympathasizers among you but their impact is on the scale of negligible/feeble to that of nonexistence...

BTW, I find your aspersions on the Igbos puerile and plain simplistic..

Many Igbos on this Forum exhibit unnecessary victim mentality.

1) In truth, they are Aniomas who traced their ancestries to Igbos.

2) It's also true that there are Aniomas who traced their ancestries to Bini, Igala, Esan or Yoruba.

3) It is also true that there are Aniomas (I think the majority) who have mixed Igbo-Bini-Igala-Yoruba ancestries.

Most of the people you guys described as Igbo deniers are Aniomas who fall into Categories 2& 3 and this has nothing to do with any Oga at Bourdillon.

maestroferddi:
Nobody is falling for anything.

You Anioma folks have yourselves to blame for providing the ammunition with which the traducers and enemies of the Igbos are attempting to undermine and disparage the Igbos.

When people like Ibe Kachikwu was trying senselessly to ingratiate himself to his Oga at Bourdlllon by pooh-poohing his Igboness, how Anioma people/leaders rose up to correct him?

Dude, we are all inform and are privy to the cacophony of discordant voices coming out of your land....Try to deal with that and leave the little matter of simple-minded element running amok here...

We are mature enough here to read between the lines.

Many do so because Anioma has created the room for the likes of Ojieh to unleash their madness, since he knows there would be no repercussions.

Since Ojieh made this comment, has the Asagba of Asaba, Obi of Agbor or any other Anioma group come out publicly to deassociate with him and debunk his claims?
The answer is no. So it is not out of place for those of us in SE to interpret this silence as passive support. Ojieh is not just a random individual, he is a head of an Anioma organization, telling Ndiigbo in SE to ignore him, with no widespread condemnation of his shameful act by Anioma royal houses and top people, is insincerity on part of any Anioma person.

You can let the deranged ones like Ojieh claim they are not Igbos and spite Ndiigbo when it's expedient, without your prominent institutions and personalities calling them to order or denouncing them publicly, while the seemingly Igbo Anioma people snoop in and take Igbo share of national cake when it's expedient with those of us in SE not being able to challenge it, so as not to be seen to be dividing the Igbo house.

Reason it well yourself, devoid of emotions. If Ojieh and his likes are able to make vitriolic sweeping comments like this without a media reply by Anioma royal fathers and relevant organizations, then what you or any Anioma person has to say on this, doesn't and shouldn't matter, and Ndiigbo in SE will be stupid to continue receiving this bullshit from that quarter, 50years post civil war.

oga if u dont know try ask those wey know.

its an open secret that chukwuma patrick kaduna nzeogwu's mother is fulani from one of their royal families.

nzeogwu is a distant nephew to tafawa balewa - and he was so loved by Tafawa balewa - hence his fast rise in rank in the nigerian army.

till today, the north still regard nzeogwu as their son and they believed that what he did, he did it out of patriotism.

are you even aware that despite fighting on the biafran side, kaduna nzeogwu's body was taken from nsukka were he died in action back to kaduna and buried with full military honors in kaduna state.

nzegwu was never branded a traitor nor persona-non-Grata by the Nigerian government despite his major role in the events that led to the civil war.

any ways, since you know where his mother is from, do kindly educate us.

I know the Nzeogwu's family, my mum is from Okpanam

I repeat desist from spreading false stories.

For you information, Kaduna's mum is from Ugbolu.

His parents lived in the north for a long time.

He has no Fulani blood from any side. Was never married.

It's NOT the location where people were killed that define the territory of a seceeding Country.

Lt. Col Odumegwu-Ojukwu was the Military Governor of Eastern Region while Lt.Col David Ejoor was the Military Governor of Mid-Western Region (which included Asaba).

Lt.Col Odumegwu-Ojukwu announced on the radio that the leaders of thought in the defunct Eastern Region had mandated him to declared his (Eastern) Region as the Republic of Biafria.

How did this Biafran Republic crossed 'the boundary' to include Asaba in the Mid-Western Region? Was Asaba ever part of the Eastern Region? Did Odumegwu-Ojukwu ever governed Asaba?
