World Bank/IMF usually fund governments..... not private institutions.

@ topic..... meeting in Dubai? If the lecturers diverted the funds.... why not move to have them prosecuted instead of drawing up new guidelines? ... and at the same time calling on others to draw down money still sitting in the fund? Funny people.

Education is a best legacy, but yet is not a guarantee of success. Mind u if u want to be rich in life u have to go beyond the education that u receive in ur university. because ur lecturers, doctors and professors do not know anything on how to be wealthy in life, they are poor or middle class. They lack the needed knowledge on how they can be rich because they are the product of there system play it save, u must not fail n don't take a risk, so they remain the same throughout of there life because they don't think beyond salary they earn on monthly basis. Croatia proverb no risk no again. That is the reason why if any of them was trusted with our treasury they misbehave. What u learn in school is not the guarantee of success but just a foundation to redirect ur foot n use ur hand to rebuild ur destiny. Everybody is looking for money buy very few or little people know how to make money. Money is the lease if u can seek the knowledge on how to make money first get to work don't look miracle or magic, but without that knowledge whatever life give u is ur choice don't blame anybody abt it. because udon't have choice than to take it. Don't be looking for unrealistic help. Use ur energy, brain, time n whatever tools u might have right now n thing n growth.

We deserve ourselves in Nigeria. The average Nigerian is selfish, corrupt and greedy by default.

Wickedness and hypocrisy runs in our blood. Everyone wants to point fingers but they are even more guilty of the things they accuse the government of.

Is it the government that forced public servants in lecturers to spend money meant for development?

Nigerians are the bigger problem, and are actually why nigeria may never get better.
You do talk am finish. See the commebts here you will understand how bad the situation is

I don't agree with you. Several FG universities won different centers of Excellence grants, last year. TETFUND should stop making noise up and down. You can imagine applying yearly for conference grant both foreign and local and you never get any for the past 8 years won't you feel there process itself is a scam. Every year you attach 2 passports don't you feel people will get tired if they don't see transparency in how they select who gets the grants.

Kudos to them on NRF funds, however if you have about 100 application from a University and only 1 or 2 are granted because of qouta system and geopolitical spread, why come to the public and say people are not applying?

For those corrupt persons, what measures has TETFUND taken to stop them or make them pay back. Imagine applying for 1million soft reasearch grant this year and you get approval next year and funds are not released till after 6months. How are they working to tackle bureaucracy? Cost differences in dollars, taxing of research items for University researchers by Customs etc, it's even worse when you use ur salary to import needed items for research and they bring bill for customs charge to you as if the item is for buisiness.

They had better run workshops with stakeholders in each schools and find out how to improve on theirselves rather than go spend taxpayers fund in Dubai. However, I commend our little start but they can do better, they can borrow ideas from South Africa and India on how they run thiers. Enough of noise making Nigerians it's time to work.

NOTE: For all grants the researchers have their own percentage as honorarium, so the question is not that there are no ideas it's more that there are no FUNDS or the process for receiving the fund is not clear or full of unnecessary bottlenecks.

We have researchers traveling in and out of the country yearly for fellowships, Post doctoral researches etc and also receive grants from NIH here in Nigeria. if they do it well outside the country and also administer NIH grants and others well here in Nigeria. Then, that should tell you that there is a problem at Home (TETFUND).

Even Tetfund have a lot of questions to answer. Why make Dubai the venue for the workshop? That in itself is suggestive of corruption. What do you want to demonstrate in a workshop that can't be done in Nigeria? At least in the mega hotels or conference sites. The Dubai venue is just an opportunity to waste funds and collect estacode. We keep fooling ourselves.

People should please read between the ;lines. You are complaining of misappropriation yest you went to Dubai for a meeting with head of agency in Nigeria . See except from the story

"Making the fresh allegation in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Monday, TETFund’s director of research and development, Salihu Bakari, said huge sums of money made available to the individual lecturers, and sometimes their teams for research exercises, conference attendance, among others, are usually misappropriated.

Mr Bakari spoke at a capacity building workshop organised by the agency for select staffers of research and development units from some of the public tertiary institutions, as parts of efforts aimed at rejigging research activities in Nigerian tertiary institutions."

God bless Nigeria.
