I am just stepping out of the shower and I am already being bothered by a fool.
All you have just said are stories with nothing to substantiate them.
You guys claim Dahomey was under Oyo, then explain to me why Dahomey chose to name itself after Benin and not after oyo ?
You claim oyo was so big, yet no body traded with it and the Bight of Benin was named the Bight of Benin, not the Bight of oyo.
Your story about the awori is just an other yoruba day dreaming. For as long as can be investigated, Lagos was part of Benin empire. The King of Lagos is a relative to the Oba if Benin.
You claim oyo could have easily defeated Benin, yet oyo gave up to the British without a fight and oyo was previously defeated by the Fulani.
Benin fought against the British and lost to no African country.

Touch them and see the wroth of the gods and ancestors. Most Emirs, Shuhus and Sultan positions are religious positions and Allah is a merciful God like our gods who swing into actions immediately. If it is by now, Gandollar would running from pillar to post looking to get fortified against the wroth of the gods and ancestors

[quote author=bjdon post=87323530]Please leave Oba of Benin and Oni of Ife out of these discussions. Those 2 are on a different level entirely from all the other traditional rulers. How? Pls tell us why.

I like where you are coming from, but kindly note that traditional rulers can be removed by the sitting governors of their states. And as a matter of fact, when Lucky Igbinedion held office c.2005 he too nearly removed the Oba of Benin from office, due to ruckus between the Oba and Nosakhare Igbinedion. The difference was the people of Bini kingdom fought against it and the Benin traditional stool being held in such high regard he had no choice but to back down.

Typing like one reasoning through his anus, you're just trying Lucky Igbinedions stupidity with attempting to dethrone the Oba of Benin...
It shows you don't know the meaning of "dethrone".
You really believed Igbinedion or any govt have the guts to dethrone the Oba of Benin?
That day, you will see and that a docile city like Benin can raise against and drive that guvnor out of the state.
It would get to a point the police men will pull off their uniform and hide so as not to be lynched for trying enforce an unpopular govt order

talking to you is just like talking to a radio record.
You will just keep repeating the same thing, over and over and over ...
The Oba of Benin was never dethroned, the guy you were replying proved it to you, but like a radio, you just repeated your debunked claim.

For me, the Oba of Benin is the only king among the ones mentioned that can not be replaced until he dies.
Yes, the political authority can unseat a traditional ruler according to our constitution but that authority can not
appoint just anybody to ascent the throne in Benin.
Dethroning the Oba of Benin is like totally eradicating the Benin Royal stool. Even the British with their almighty
colonial powers couldnt replace Ovoravwen. Onyaregbulem, ones military administrator, had issue with Oba Eradiauwa an we
all know how that ended.

The only monarch that has never been deposed is Ooni.

How was the encounter between the ooni of ife and the british invading forces ?
Did the ooni of ife put up a fight or did he give up without a fight ?
It is just weird how you yoruba are so proud of the cowardice of the ooni of ife.
The Oba of Benin, Omo n'Oba n'Edo Ovonramwen was a true leader of his country.
When the british tried to invade, he met them with a war.
He lost that war and was exiled by the british.
After his demise his son came back to Benin city (the capital of the Benin empire) and took over the throne.

Your ooni of ife gave up to the british without a fight. And your ooni of ife collaborated with the british like their faithful boy-boy, so much that they did everything possible to elevate him. As the traitor he was, the ennemies (the british) favoured him.
And you guys are proud of that
