The Federal Government says it has no plans to impose travel restrictions on visitors from countries where coronavirus continues to spread rapidly.

However, Nigeria has decided to screen visitors entering the country from China (where the disease originated last year), Japan, Iran, Italy , Germany, France, South Korea and Spain.

The killer disease was brought to Nigeria by an Italian man who arrived in Lagos aboard a Turkish Airlines plane on February 24.

He travelled from Lagos to Ogun State before he was quarantined inthe Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba, Lagos.
There has been other cases of the virus, but they proved negative.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Monday, the Minister of State for Health, Dr Olorunnibe Mamora, said the FG decided to screen visitors from the eight countries after the World Health Organisation declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic.

The ex-Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker said, “Despite we have not recorded a confirmed COVID-19 case in the last one week in Nigeria, it is important to remember that we are still at high risk like other countries. We will continue to monitor returning travellers that fit our case definition and improve our surveillance, detection and risk communications.

“We have carried out a review of our case definition. We have added three new countries to the existing list of five high-risk countries with widespread community transmission. These are France, Germany and Spain. Therefore, eight countries are on our priority list – China, Japan, Iran, Italy, Republic of Korea, France and Germany.

“Travellers from these eight countries will undertake secondary screening at the point of entry. They are also advised to self-isolate for 14 days on entry.”

He said between January 7 and March 15 48 people who had contact with the Italian were screened for coronavirus in Edo, Lagos, Ogun, Yobe, Rivers, Kano, Enugu states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Mamora added, “Forty-seven people have tested negative and have been cleared. One was positive (after contact with the index case) and one result is pending. There has been no death.

“The index case is clinically stable and has improved greatly.

Nigerians are reactive and not proactive.

The federal government should do whatever pleases them, afterall if the virus spreads rapidly in this country, all of us will be affected and they won't escape it too.

Whats wrong with these people,as in whats wrong with our leaders mentality, who is the enemy of the masses that is giving them this demonic advice, are u wiser than those nations with more advanced healthcare that put closed their borders, the EU has shut theirself in, france has lockdown their nation, nonessential movement has been cancelled in most of european nations, and these fools at Aso Rock still want to host national sports festival, even India that Nigeria buys drug from has closed their border,so where will nigeria buy drugs to treat nigerians if this calamity happen , yet the F.G is saying they are not closing border, but if it is here in Nigeria that this virus originated with this kind of mortality rate just see how other foreign nation govt that value its citizens life will ban any flight from Nigeria, even ghana sef go close border...... Anyway Coronavirus no know president or senator

Corona Virus is already in this country and no one is aware of it.
trust me, it is when it had spread to about one-tenth of the country's population that the government will start using fire brigaide approach in preventing its wide spread.
.
.
.
and then it would be like campaigning after election.
*don't quote me
*since its already in ghana, forget it.

Africans and Inferiority complex.

What's the worse that could happen if you ban them from entering the country entirely?

I heard on Hembelembe that a Chinese man who was spos to be in isolation from the airport bribed his way out of isolation.

It is a staff of his organisation that reported the matter to Hembelembe.

Other countries like USA,Turkey... etc. have restricted immigrants, but here in Nigeria, I don't still get why they ain't stopping citizens from countries where the virus is rife.

Let them remember that "Health is first in everything."

Good health brings money; a healthy life is a happy life.

When we are healthy--- economy booms--- our GDP rises.

They just have to re-think so as not to regret their decisions on allowing people from affected countries to gain access into Nigeria.

If this disease had emanated from Africa, Nigeria would be the number one country on travel ban list.

It is the duty of the FG to save lives, secure the people and provide basic amenities as promised during his campaigns in different states.

Nigeria is highly populated: this disease once spread, would be very hard to contain.

If you ask me my say on this - No!!

Buhari's administracion shouldn't put this country inside well, we all know money is important, but live is more...

FG wants corona to kill a lot of Nigerians so he can give their lands to Fulani herdsmen for RUGA. Most visitors from these countries rarely visit northern Nigeria. Its a ploy to finish southerners so he can pounce on their lands

See them! Antichrist agents trying to spread the coronavirus to cause chaos/deaths and then bring about a solution.

CDC America allowed the infected to enter the country in droves. And still claimed there was no outbreak, at the same time refusing to provide testkits. Now made available, the testkits are revealing many positives. And Trump has declared LOCKDOWN in all the states. And possibly no movement.
