The military under Alex Baden was very bitter with that statement. Nigeria became ruthless against Boko Haram in order to conduct 2015 elections attacking from the air. This did not go down well with Chad and some Northern elites who openly and diplomatically supported Boko Haram.

The President commands the military, if a general says go and the president says stay the soldiers must stay.
