The notion of feminism in Africa is entirely different from the western perception. One may be moved to ask if the concept is geographically defined. The African way of feminism has led many to ask if feminism is a group of women seeking for emancipation, group of both genders seeking for gender equality or just any group seeking for equity in gender roles.
African women perceived they are under the bond of toxic masculinity. They believe women are subjugated, annihilated and trampled upon like rotten fruit. For them, the society at large sees them as a foot match. This championed the concept of feminism in Africa which can be traced to a well known feminist, Ngozi Chimamanda Adichie.
Adichie alongside some other African women activists has taken it upon themselves to emancipate the African women. This Adichie portrays through some of her writings such as " Purple Hibiscus", "Ijeawale", "Americana" However, the majority believe that the feminism Adichie preaches is no longer in practice as some women have championed another version of feminism which seems toxic to African men.
