The deaths are piling up because the Ministry of Health and NCDC have not prioritised mass testing. As long as people are allowed to stay with the virus for long without treatment, they lose the chance to get help and a high possibility of spreading the virus.

All Governors should work on a partnership programme with the Federal Government, International Development Partners and the Private sector to carryout massive testing for Covid-19. Even though it means reaching out to South Africa and other countries for technical support.

We are wasting time depending on Lockdown to chase the virus.

WANG DASHAN (not his real name), a bus driver from Hubei Province, thinks that a herbal broth may have saved his life. The yellow-brown tonic, manufactured by a large public company, was one of the many traditional remedies that doctors used to treat Mr. Wang during the two weeks he spent with covid-19 in a makeshift hospital in Wuhan, the provincial capital.

He says his cough and fever subsided a few days after he started drinking it. He does not think he would have improved on his own, although most coronavirus patients recover.

Officials around the world advise people to be wary of alternative treatments for covid-19. The opposite is true in China, where the remedies known as traditional Chinese medicine, or commonly, TCM, are strongly encouraged by the state. In January, as the crisis escalated, the Ministry of Health TCM treatments among those he recommended for the disease.

He sent nearly 5,000 specialists to Hubei to administer them to patients (including the sick in a Wuhan sports center transformed into TCM hospital for people with mild symptoms).

On March 23, a senior government official TCM the administration said that more than 90% of all people with covid-19 had received traditional therapies, and that these had been “effective” 90% of the time. It did not provide any data to support this claim.
