Now when Fulani herdsmen go on killing spree, your governor can't do anything because the commissioner of police in the state will be waiting for "orders from Abuja". By the time that order comes (if it even comes), communities would have been wiped out Make una continue supporting this govt. Na turn by turn 4 Likes |

United Nations should come and resolve the political problems in Nigeria. Let each state in Nigeria or region be satisfied with the resolution or we go our separate ways. THERE IS SO MUCH CONFUSION IN NIGERIA. No one want to listen to the other party. President Buhari presidency has divided Nigeria far more than any other political leaders. 1 Like |

WeneDiali: Those in support have no idea. COS is working, I think Kyari might be a saint after all. This govt was a sole beneficiary of corrupt policing practices but let me hope they mean well this time and not planning to use this against governors of the opposition parties. |

Who wrote this devilish bill? Concentrating more powers to the hand of the IG does not makes sense, the PSC was designated to check the excess of the IG, this bill must not see the light of the day. 1 Like |

vikacydevato: You are a wiseman. The I.G will become as powerful as a Governor. Commissioner will no longer be loyal to the governor of a state and the use of federal might will become another bottleneck. Sister agencies protecting the Governor will often clash with the police and this will lead to a mass clamour for state and local government police in the long run. I still believe policing Nigeria the American way is the best way to handle this. Let's each police formation regardless of nomenclature, have their powers and Jurisdiction. Just like the county sheriff, the State Police Department and the FBI. 1 Like |

bigfish3k: Nigerian politician/governor doesn't deserve state police, the governors are mostly bloody power drunk dictator If governor want state police they should begin by allowing local government full autonomy, no interference in state assembly etc But no, dictators only want more power they are never ready to relinquish any of their own power 1 Like |

Ryan03: You’re right. I am what you said. Firstly, there’s something they called norm. Norm comes from improvisation. While a norm is more like benchmark, something acceptable to be thriving among a group, institution, nation or individuals; improvisation tells you they’re done without proper examination, preparation or conscientious viewpoints. The present police recruitment (largely) is an improvised norm in the national security area known for propagating corruption through the high knowledge of “Social-Connecticut”, bribery for inclusion”, extorting and hungry-looking personnel. Secondly, looking at police welfare, you won’t even advise your own brother to go into that force. The rate of unemployment in the country forces many people to take up the form whereas they know they’d never get there because of Man-Know-Man. |

jom28gy: The Police Act was amended also in 2004 and also before then. So it is not colonial. Stripping the Police Service Commission (PSC) of some of its powers and adding them to those of the IGP will not help the Police and the country as whole. Furthermore saying the Governor as the Chief Security Officer of a State cannot talk to the Police Commissioner is not going to help the security of the State. 2 Likes |
