THIS IS SAD. At a time where our democracy like most civilized ones should be hearing towards decentralization of power and promotion of checks and balances, our legislators for selfish and stupid reasons are making laws to promote centralization of powers and elimination of checks. A simple analysis will show that the IG by this new law is made too powerful. He recruits, fires, gives orders and controls the entire powers of the Nigeria police. Why on Earth didn't they give recruitment powers to Police service commission, powers of suspension to IG and dismissal to PSC. That will check the powers of the IG and the overzealousness of police officers. 1 Like |

NOETHNICITY: The idea of removing accountability from the police is a sinister one. Checks and balances exist for a reason. We have become a police state. Buhari wants to dismantle democracy finally. Already, the police and military are laws unto themselves, in this regime terrorists became invisible. They kill, rape, invade farmlands and communities unspotted and vanish like the wind. Now they are not accountable to anyone. |

There was never a time the police commissioners ever took orders from the state Governors. The truth is that most of them always run to the state Governors to partake in the sharing of the security vote allocation and with that, they are bound to do the bidding of the Governors. |

GreenKalada: What did we see in Rivers State Were CPs ever under threat by the Governors If u dnt know what's really happening, it's advisable u dnt misquote issues. Coz as much as I know, CPs only take orders from Abuja, which has been raising dusts in the various states they are deployed, coz some times they sabotage the effort of the state based of tribalism, ethnicity and negative federal order. So the Governors have been looking for a way to have them under state direction, which is wat the committee kicked out. 1 Like |

GreenKalada: Those were isolated cases. You don't throw the baby with the bath water This is a wrong move. The governor is supposed to be the chief security officer for the state. If he can't control the police, then I wonder what the title is for. |

Psalm2423: Nigeria is not a balanced federation. Until the internal crisis in the South West is resolved, the South can never practice true federalism as handed over to Nigeria by the Colonial masters. The Senate President and the Speaker are America citizens. They understand Federalism. The governors remains the Chief Security Officer of a state, but state police commissioner can not take directive from governor except from Abuja. Is that Federalism? |

FieldMarshall06: Which nonsense did he write? Nigeria is not a balanced federation. The Colonial masters understand the terrain and the future before they handed over Federalism to us. This Unitary system is aided by crisis in the South West and lack of unity and cohesion in the South. One day the South will come together. Power comes from God ,in Nigeria, foolish majority determines who rules. We shall see how things play themselves out. |

Time for every state to float a security outfits, they spent a hell of money to found the police even when they don't have control over CP of what use is the amendment? Governors localize your security now after all you the chief security officer of your state! |

U are very funny bro, ur suggestions is unattainable in Nigeria. Which graduate & intelligent people are talking about which the police doesn't have. The problem is the system. Go & read the police act & U will see that what these Reps have done is just copy and paste with little change. What's needed here is complete change from colonial law that is in place now. Thanks |
