They are now called Odiani and not Olukumi. They have been assimilated as Enu-ani Igbos.

They have started reformation. grin

In some cases, some radical reformers and revivalists changed the names given to them by their parents from Igbo to Olukumi. The climax of the restoration process of their linguistic ethos and identity was the christening of the incumbent Oloza with an Olukumi name, Ayo

Na so Igbos on Nairaland be cheesy

They said the hatred Minorities had for Awolowo made them leave the Western region, but they now claim Minorities love Awolowo.

So if Awolowo had the power of Lagos/ibadan media why did Midwest leave western region in the first place?
Baba, I tire. Their lies dey weak me, i swear.

Assimilation is not unnatural as their ancestry is never in doubt. Regardless of the environmental or cultural assimilation, they are bold enough to recognize and declare their Yoruba ancestry.

Recognition of their Owo (this is not same as Yoruba) origin, is not same as accepting Yoruba ethnicity.

Odiani are proudly Enu-ani now.
Don't spoil things for them. grin

Odiani people are proudly Anioma, proudly Igbos. kiss

The guy is a joke, he's talking about assimilation. Which kinda assimilation could be greater or more powerful than ancestry.

Magrebes is the most populous tribe. Where did your Hausa get 78million. Where ijaw get 15million, who dash igbo 44million. Igbo is 34 million in population why Hausa and Yoruba are 43 and 40 million respectively.

This exactly was your antics when you had a government over the minorities during the regional era. You covetously imposed ibo names and language on them while converting their properties under the guise of influence. You changed the name of a people from Olukumi to Odiani just because they are among the majority ibo, which has always been your tool for oppressing the minorities. Do you think you can erode someone else's ancestry?, do you think the Olukumi are as daft?. Same for other groups of minorities which you have covetously claimed. Thankfully, the new media age is giving them the right leverage to expose your debauchery.

Will you keep quite.

Mention the country where there is no Yoruba.

Yoruba are indigenous to Nigeria, Togo, Benin, they are found in Ivory coast, Ghana, there are indigenous to Cuba, Brazil.

They are also found in many countries all over the world

Igbos are indegenous to Equatorial Guinea.

Odiani were not imposed with Igbo names.
It happened naturally. They naturally wanted to be like their Enu-ani neighbors.

No one forced anything on them.

You know the first Igbo miss Nigeria, then Miss Helen Anyamelune, she was from Odiani and her victory in 1958 was celebrated by Igbo Union.

Leave them alone, they have fully assimilated. All of them. Only Ugbodu still have vestiges of Yoruba. The others like Ukwu nzu are 100% assimilated. Ugbodu will follow through in time.
It's only natural.
We have Igbos in Isoko who migrated from Mgbidi(Imo) and Awka (Anambra) to Isokoland. They have been fully Isokonized with just vestiges of Igbo in them. You don't see Ndiigbo crying over them?

Yorubas have Yorubanized the Edo people in Isua, Ipe, Epinmi in Akoko SE, and countless others.
Edo have Edonized Yorubas in Usen, and parts of Akoko Edo.

It's natural way of things, don't come here to demonize Ndiigbo.
We never forced the process on Odiani. They happily embraced us.

Angola and Congo = West Central = almost 4m exports combined.

Bight of Benin = 2.1m exports, Aja people (majority) 1.6m, Yoruba 0.45m.

Bight of Biafra = 1.46m exports, Igbo 1.2m, Ibibio/Efik/Ijaw = 0.25m.

Once again I furnish extra data for you if you are unable to source them by yourself.

How did you arrive at 1.6m people for Aja people out of the 2.1m people? I will like to know where you got that figure from? grin

Loads of hogwash!!!

It is criminal of you to change their collective identity from Olukumi to Odiani for the fact that they share boundary with their Enuani neighbors. As i said earlier, assimilation is not unnatural but an attempt at changing people's collective identity is criminal.
If being Yorubanised means bearing Yoruba names and speaking the language but never in such a dubious manner of changing someone else's identity or suppressing their collective identity with that of the majority. I have never heard Yoruba do such to any group of people however small in number. You are a joke.

Towns that make up the Odiani Clan.
Ugbodu-uno,Ukwunzu,ogodo,Ugboba,idumu ogo and Ubulubu.

Ugbodu and Ukwunzu are bilingual towns (heavily infiltrated olukumi and Enuani).
The remaining 4 are only (Enuani) igbo speaking. Making the odianis fully western/delta igbos.

The head/chairman of Aniocha North council of traditional rulers is the Obi of ogodo .

Culturally(food,attire....etc) we share with the rest of Aniocha.

The fact that part of the odianis migrated from owo doesn't in anyway make them citizenry of ondo or yorubas as I see some full grown adults wallowing in confusion and identity crisis which is very pitiable.

I read on a page somewhere where an indigene of ugbodu was being confused on what ethnic group to write down on an application form, and that was so shocking to me .

We are not the only people who migrated from a particular place or have a mixed migration ......there are alot of towns in Anioma that trace thier origin to Edo,igala etc.
Even in the east we have towns that trace thiers to cross river . As a matter of fact every place in the world today have thier point of migration but that does not in any way change thier present day identity.

We should never mistake a point or source of migration to ones present day identity. This is who we have metamorphosed to become, both traditionally;culturally and linguistically along with our present day abode (Aniocha) where we have lived for over 900years,Ugbodu being the first to settle in that area before arrival of other towns. Collectively the entire odiani clan bear 80% igbo names and share an igbo dialect (enuani) making us by majority ndi igbos of the West.

We are Anioma people, ndi igbos of the west and not Yoruba people from ondo state or edo people as some who are confused about thier identity think.

A community can't say a particular language is allien to them or not a lingua franca but yet bear 80% of the names. The entire odiani clan bear about 80% igbo names and speak igbo language (enuani)

If Anioma state is created today,it will be zoned to the SE and that will be a seal to affirm the fact and reality that one can't run and won't be able to deny her present day identity and not wallow In self deceit and thinking migration is only peculiar to them. The Abiribas today are proudly igbo despite thier migration history from the crossriver and igala area.

Most part of the ezechime clan trace thier history to the Benin kingdom, idumuje to Esan land, ika to Benin kingdom etc but we are all ndi Aniomas today and western igbos regardless of history or point of migration.

Anioma,anyi bu ofu.

Odiani are fully Enu-ani, Anioma and Igbo.
They acknowledge their migrations from Owo. But they have mixed and assimilated into Enuani and have evolved a distinct identity of their own, called ODIANI.

Igbos never built empires to invade, kill and take other people land, like Fulanis and Yorubas did.
Our land was open for endless hordes of refugees from Oyo, Bini, and Igala, running away from tyrant monarchs there. Thats why we have many stories of people migrating from those parts Into Igboland. But if you migrate into our land, you would have to assimilate and become Igbo speaking and would ultimately have to accept Igbo tag, not by force or compulsion, but by natural design.

Don't accuse us of what you are. We are not you and your Fulani brothers.

The Minorities already poisoned with toxic Igbophobia of Lagos/Ibadan express way media propaganda all voted for mostly Awolowo or Shagari to some extent.
Zik had just Igbos votes.

Additionally, election results in Nigeria are about as useless in determing ethnic census because of the usual irregularities that take place.

Which minorities?

The same ones that hated Awolowo so much they held referendum to be separated from him....abi another minority?

There are only two civilizations in Nigeria

Yoruba and Kanuri.
These two were true conquerors.

Fulani is an opportunist.

Ibo was conquered in the North by Igala, in the South by Ijaw, in East by Ibibio and in West by Bini.

This is why you remain landlocked till today and your culture is non-uniform.

Northern Ibo culture is more Igala-like. Southern-Ibo culture is Ijaw-like, Eastern Ibo culture is Ibibio-like and in West you are Benin-like.

There is no organic Ibo culture because Ibo itself was a denigration of slavery. Anyone called Ibo was a slave back then. Whiteman rescued you from your slave masters in the North, South, East and West.
