The data may be correct. But data does not always tell the whole story.

The North is largely a feudal agrarian society and as such, they may experience underemployment but in such societies, there is always something to do that person will not consider beneath themselves. Northern society is also far less individualistic and "competitive than southern societies. Community collaboration ( including work sharing) is much higher than in the south and those who cannot find any jobs simply migrate southwards. Employment is not simply a matter of "job of no job". It includes the existence of undesirable jobs that remain unfilled. This is more likely to happen in an educated cosmopolitan society. In the North undesirable and unfilled jobs are rare.

Sometimes we need to look with more care at the western concept of success and prosperity.

Unemployment rate is calculated by number of graduates with respect to unemployed.

Growing up, no one of working age group was jobless. People worked as drivers, plumbers,electricians, bricklayers, builders, teachers, nurses, doctors, shop keepers, tradesmen and women, etc. Graduates had jobs to choose from, often settling for the best. First degree was enough to live a fulfilling life. Only those in the academia pursued postgraduate qualifications. Even so, in subjects such as law and fine arts, terminal masters degree was enough to become professors (e.g. Osinbajo hold no PhD in Law, and MFA was considered terminal degree). Today, there are people with chain of degrees, some acquired from top notch, global universities, who in midlife, have no track record within any careers. Many have suddenly become motivational speakers. The priesthood of Anglican, Methodist, Baptist and Catholic Churches have become a washed with jobless university graduates. Pentecostal churches are pastored by erstwhile jobless young men and women. There are teachers and lecturers in our nation’s educational institutions who have no business being there. Teaching is a calling. Lawyers have largely become charge and bail personnels on many court premises. Many law school graduates are jobless. Many medical school graduates are earning peanuts. It’s a grim state. Sadly, the Nigerian government at local, state and national levels are doing absolutely nothing - short or long term - to rectify or ameliorate the problem. This cannot continue. Hence, one day, Nigeria would self-implode. It would be bloody!

The reason this is so is because Imo has the highest number of graduates, so by proportion they will most likely have the highest number of unemployed youths. You can also check population of people seeking admission or number of people that took jamb, imo is always the highest, so it is only logical that they also have the highest number of people who are denied admission yearly and couldn't enter higher institution. Check out the number of people deployed for nysc yearly...Imo also tops that....

I also believe that they mean 'educated' unemployed people in white-collar jobs...

Watch how unemployed youth that are waiting for N-power job will come here and be bragging how their state is not on the list. Unemployment in every state is alarming and I wonder how this guys come up with this statistics. Maybe the will stop a youth and ask "are you employed?"
