The issue between the rich areas and the poor areas shouldn't even come up because Naturally the rich spend more on Electricity because the naturally consume far more per hour than the poor can even consume in week and so this makes up for any disparity ... We should be careful about making succeess look like evil and stop all this pitching the poor against the rich because of politics ...can the poor pay the amount tax the rich pays ? Can the poor contribute to society like the rich does ?

And lets not forget most Nigerians highbrow areas are also filled with average and poor people .... Besides what criteria is even used to Judge this ... the only factor that should be used is metering and it's already done ..those with 3 phase meters pay more for both the meter and electricity than those with single phase

Making the rich pay more should only be applied on income tax. That's why it's called Pay As You Earn. However, making goods and services more expensive to certain people might look cool to you cause you've taken sides but logically speaking, it doesn't make sense. It is not a crime to be rich. Rich people have done nothing wrong to warrant such deprivation and the whole thing makes it seems as if there is a war (mostly in the poor man's head) between the rich and the poor. Success is not a crime, Nigerians should stop hating on famous people, rich people and people that live abroad.

From the post, the basis for classification appears to be based on residential areas being categorised as rich or poor . Meanwhile in some cases, rich people build or live amongst people in poor residential areas and vice versa. How will that be sorted?

The categorization already exists and it's not based on rich or poor but on energy requirements. R3 customers are usually estates that have been bulk metered. R2 customers are most other residential users whether rich or poor. The story was slanted to make it look like it was something wonderful. but it still boils down to tariff increase across board.

So industrial users, big estates, those in the villages, those in cities will pay more but on a staggered scale which is how every single tariff increase has been. Never been a flat rate.

Commendable for sure.

However, if things were done properly with metering, they would pay based on their usage. We'd expect an Ikyoki boy to use more, and thus pay accordingly. We might as well lower the price of petrol for the Mushin boy while we're at it.

All I see is yet another avenue for some people to milk the system. Tell me that Ikoyi boy will not settle with small change so he can get the lower rate.

This is a crazy idea; a product of an educated illiterate. The rich folks have always paid more on electricity by virtue of their consumption power. They also pay more on fuel (even though everyone buy at same rate) by virtue of their consumption power. While an Ikoyi based landlord can leave his generator running for 24hrs/day, the poor man can't.

There should be no form of disparity between the rich and poor people when it comes to tariff. The consumption volume, number of electrical appliances, etc. already take care of this difference.

Whenever you read stuff like this, just know that the government is trying to segment tariff by geographical zones: Southern & Northern Nigeria. Lagosians, whether you're based in Ikoyi or Ikorodu, should be ready to pay more than Katsina or Kano folks. It wouldn't matter whether you live on the Island or Mainland.
