Thousands of years ago. Mummification, a pocess of treating, preserving a dead body for eternity. The ancient Egyptians believed in an afterlife when someone died. Mummification helped someone reach the afterlife as they believed that an afterlife could only exist if there was a form the ka (soul) could repossess after death. Egyptians believed that the only way to do this was if the body was recognisable. This is why they spent so long on the process of mummification and why Pharoahs began the building of their tombs during their lifetimes. They developed a rigorous and specific process for mummification. The entire mummification process took 70 days, according to History.com. It was a blend of science and ceremony, as the body was preserved and believed to be prepared for the afterlife. Mummification was mainly done to wealthy people as poorer people could not afford the process. https://now.northropgrumman.com/the-mummification-process-in-5-steps/ 22 Likes 3 Shares

The chief embalmer was a priest wearing a mask of Anubis. Anubis was the jackal headed god of the dead. He was closely associated with mummification and embalming, hence priests wore a mask of Anubis. https://now.northropgrumman.com/the-mummification-process-in-5-steps/ 16 Likes 1 Share

Prepare the Body The BBC reports that modern researchers used forensic techniques to identify the ingredients in the resin that ancient Egyptians used. The recipe included a plant-derived oil, such as sesame oil, a balsam-type of plant or root extract, a plant-based gum and a conifer tree resin, likely pine resin. These ingredients have chemical properties that give them antibacterial effects that prevent the body from decaying. A standout among the ancient Egyptian tools used for mummification is the brain hook which is just as gory as it sounds. Embalmers used this tool, which resembled a crochet needle, insert to nostril to pull the corpse’s brain out through the nose. They would also make an abdominal incision and remove the lungs, stomach, liver and intestines. The body’s organs were placed in special containers called canopic jars. They intentionally left the heart in the body because they believed it was the source of a person’s thoughts and overall being. Next, the body was rinsed with wine, which helped to kill bacteria. https://now.northropgrumman.com/the-mummification-process-in-5-steps/ 35 Likes 2 Shares

Dry the Body The next step was essential, they thoroughly dried out the body. To remove all the moisture, the embalmers used a chemical called natron, which is a naturally-derived salt with excellent drying properties, according to Scientific American. They stuffed natron packets inside the body, covered it entirely in salt and left it to dry on an embalming table. Then, 40 days later, embalmers would find a blackened and shriveled body ready for the next phase of mummification. https://now.northropgrumman.com/the-mummification-process-in-5-steps/ 20 Likes 6 Shares

Restore the Body The second half of the process involved restoring the shriveled body to make it appear more lifelike. After the body was completely dry, the embalmers massaged the skin to make it supple. They perfumed the body and stuffed padding under the skin to make it seem more fleshy and realistic. Then, embalmers gave the mummies a bit of a makeover, applying blush and other paints, as well as false eyes. https://now.northropgrumman.com/the-mummification-process-in-5-steps/ 28 Likes 1 Share

Wrap the Body Finally, they coated the corpse in warm resin and wrapped it in the white fabric strips that have now become the staple of a classic Halloween costume. Priests carefully wrapped each body part in multiple layers of linen strips, often placing a mask or drawing of the person’s face under the bandages. Each mummy was wrapped in 100 yards of linen strips. https://now.northropgrumman.com/the-mummification-process-in-5-steps/ 14 Likes 2 Shares

After the mummy was complete, priests performed a religious ceremony at the tomb. It involved a ritual called “opening of the mouth,” where they touched parts of the mummy with a special tool to “open” parts of the body to enjoy the afterlife. For example, according to Scientific American, Egyptians believed that when a priest touched the tool to a mummy’s mouth, the dead person would then be able to speak and eat in the afterlife. Lastly, they placed the mummy in its coffin/sarcophagus and sealed the entrance to the burial chamber. Sometimes, curses were placed at the entrances of kings tombs to protect them from tomb raiders or from being disturbed. https://now.northropgrumman.com/the-mummification-process-in-5-steps/ 24 Likes 1 Share

Guardians of the Internal Organs Canopic Jars The mummy’s internal organs were dried out and stored in canopic jars. These jars were placed in a canopic chest in the burial chamber of the mummy. There were four canopic jars and each had a different stopper or lid depicting: Imsety : a person’s head guarded the liver Qebhesneuf : a falcon watched over the intestines Hapy : a baboon protected the lungs Duamutef : a jackal looked after the stomach These were the four sons of Horus. Horus was the ancient Egyptian God of the sky and the protecter of the Pharaoh. He was usually depicted as a falcon or a man with a falcon's head. https://now.northropgrumman.com/the-mummification-process-in-5-steps/ 22 Likes 1 Share

the ancient egyptians were known to keep historical records of all their activities, that's why in the bible the name of the pharaoh that enslaved the israelites was never mentioned because the ancient egyptians had no record of such and the lie would have been too obvious. 97 Likes 7 Shares

Some treasures of the Mummies Mummies were buried with many different types of objects. Amulets Amulets were buried with the mummy usually in and around the mummy bandages. These amulets would protect the mummy after death. Eye of Horus The eye of Horus (or 'wedjat eye') was a famous amulet which was used as a symbol of protection from evil. Amulets were also used by Egyptians in their daily lives. Shabtis Shabtis were small statuettes usually in the form of a mummy and were placed inside the tomb of the deceased. The Egyptians believed that these figures would come to life when called by the dead person and would serve him in his afterlife. Jewellery and treasures Mummies were often buried with many of their belongings that might be needed in the afterlife. Egyptian Eye Make-up Pot If the mummy belonged to a very rich person, such as the Pharaoh, he would be buried with objects made out of gold, for example jewellery. A famous discovery was the tomb of Tutankhamun whose whole coffin was made out of gold. Tutankhamun was discovered by Howard Carter in 1922. Bead Necklace with Various Gemstones, gold rings, bracelets, armlet, gold coins, Amulets, Furniture, models of farmers, bakers, guards, maids/slaves, chariots, millers and pottery have all been found in burial sites. All these were everyday items that the deceased would need to have a comfortable afterlife. https://now.northropgrumman.com/the-mummification-process-in-5-steps/ 12 Likes 1 Share

Pictured, the 3,245 years old unbroken seal that secured king Tutankhamun's tomb when Howard Carter and his team were preparing to enter and excavate the tomb in 1923. When King Tutankhamen’s tomb was found, it was reported that the following inscription was near the door: "Death shall come on swift wings to him who disturbs the peace of the King.” Curse inscription seen at the entrance of another tomb discovered: ‘All people who enter this tomb, make evil against this tomb and destroy it, may the crocodile be against them in water and snakes against them on land. May the hippopotamus be against them on water and the scorpion against them on land.’ See here: https://www.nairaland.com/4239075/creepiest-ancient-egyptian-curses-unleashed They mummifed their dead, preserved the bodies, wrapped the bodies, performed rituals placed bodies in coffins, they sealed coffins and sealed the tombs from any sort of disturbance or tomb robbers/raiders. Thousands of years later, some people broke the seals to these tombs, uncovered the coffins/sarcophagus, remove the mummies and place them in museums. Anyway, i wish to visit Egypt someday and see these mummies with my eos 100d. 24 Likes 2 Shares

CosmicPhoenix:but Qur'an "copied" the Bible too, therefore everything, na lie Even some of the stories they are giving us now has been storyfied! Just look at the picture OP put up there, the embalmers are depicted as flat tommy, strongly built young men! I strongly disagree with that picture. The embalmers of the dead will most likely be old men with big stomach and flabby bodies 51 Likes 7 Shares |

there's no historical or archeological evidence to show Rameses II was the biblical Pharaoh, I dare you to show us here. The figure of Moses is well-known: Yet, outside of biblical scripture, there is next to no evidence in the archaeological and historical record of Moses's existence. There is no exact time frame for when the events of Exodus may have occurred -- with scholarly conjecture spanning more than half a millennium. Nor do we know the identity of the villainous Pharaoh in the Bible, cast in films repeatedly as Ramesses II. That pharaoh is famed for his conquests and building projects. But in their digs and readings of inscriptions and papyrus, historians have found no trace of Moses under Ramesses's reign missjo: 16 Likes

CosmicPhoenix:Oh dear. I have no intention to convince you, what you believe is up to you. But perhaps if you stripped yourself of your denial for a wee bit, you might actually start to consider what I already posted above to be the proof you need. I specifically put in bold certain words like Aperu (research on this on your own). Also, the store city mentioned in that scriptural verse called Rameses is named after the Pharaoh who commissioned the Aperu (Hebrew) to build it. You ought to know that Pharaohs were known to give their names to cities built during their reign, they would typically make it the capital from whence they ruled. Other examples of such cities named after the Pharaoh who built them include Memphis, Akhetaten, Tanis, Mendes, etc The connection you require using that verse, is that for a city which was built by the Israelites as slaves in the book of Exodus, it follows that the Pharaoh who was ruling at that time had to be a Rameses for the city to be called Rameses. And furthermore from Egyptian history, there was only one Rameses who used the Aperu(Hebrew) slave labour to build monuments, this was Rameses II. He was responsible for building a greater percentage of all Egyptian monuments than any other Pharaoh that ever ruled because he had slave labour (Hebrews) to accomplish it. 144 Likes 6 Shares |
