The best government could do is design a more effective artisanal refining process that will help this young chaps, a cheaper and eviromental friendly and effective distillation and storage process shoukd be designed for this people and provide a legal route for crude purchase at cheaper rate and this should be strictly for locals this is the only way pipeline vandlisim can be stopped and also curb enviromental degradation. However on the brighter side this guys can be taxed minimally and also this will help curb issues of petrol and disel importation to a very large extent and also bring down price of petroleum product along the line

6 years of GEJ did nothing for the Niger-Delta, between 2011 to 2015, the president, finance minister and petroleum minister were all from the Niger-Delta, what did they do to develop their region.

Even if the Niger-Delta was independent the people will still be poor and backward.
You're those politician at the oil protectorate region are greedy and self center if their nuclear family!
The foundation of the ministry of Niger-Delta was led on for the avenue for regional politicians to feed on instead of appointing technocrats to bring up developmental structure to the region.

Be deceiving yourself, you are mentally oblivious to even mention the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Out of the N3.842 trillion generated in the first half of 2019, the federal government received N1.599 trillion, representing 41.61% of the total amount disbursed.

Furthermore, the state governments received N1.335 trillion as a share of the national revenue while local governments received N792 billion.
Business Insider SSA looks at five Nigerian states with the highest revenue share within the period:

Delta
H1 2019: N108.7 billion.

Akwa Ibom
H1 2019: N 86.12 billion.

Rivers
H1 2019: N75.84 billion.

Bayelsa
H1 2019: N66.76 billion.

Lagos
H1 2019: N58.1 billion.
Thank you so much for this vital information

If the oil was in the North, this country would have been divided, the slogan "one Nigeria"is because of the oil in Nigeria Delta.
The boys should take what rightfully belongs to them, this is self actualization.

It's obvious u didn't understand the sarcasm in the post of the person u quoted

Sarcasm or not..... The mentality of a northerner is very simple..... "What belongs to the South, belongs to Nigeria.... But what belongs to the North, belongs to the North".

Can't each state in the country have their own micro refinery?

Zamfara youths are quietly mining and pocketing the billions from Gold in that state and nobody comes here to bother them. But if it's Niger Delta youths, mining, it becomes a big trouble in Nigeria. SMH!

Exactly! Who polices the Zamfara youths and politicians mining the national gold and pocketing the money alone?

The Federal Government doesn't like to talk about the theft of the gold resources, but they will all shine their eyes on the oil resources!
